    Love these! Crazy the stuff we do all the time and take for granted and then you are editing with someone and they are like - oh snappp what was that shortcut, and you didn't even realize how slow other people do it haha!
    Recently found out that if you hold down Command while you slide your volume line within a range up and down, that will let you make smaller adjustments, so that it's not so sensitive.
    On your last one, the default shortcut is actually "option [" or "option ]" (start, end respectively) on the keyboard, but I 100% agree that you should modify it to be just [ and ].
    Super helpful man - never knew about the range tool for deleting sections - great use.

    I've only just got back into FCPx after owning the original Express as well as the FCP Suite. But coming to X I could not get on with it and stopped using it and just did bits using iMovie. It was all because I was putting everything in the Library, which is where I thought that it should go. Then after really messing up months of work, when everything decided to go into a mix and I could not separate the project/event, that I looked at loads of YT video's and finally with this lock down, spent a couple of weeks putting all my Hi8, MiniDv of which there were over 100 along with AVCHD and GoPro files, that filled a 2TB drive. After I'd done a LOT I realised that I had fallen into the same trap, thinking that the Library was just like you local book one. Once I'd restarted and put each tape as a new Library on a new 4TB WD, everything has become so good. Now I can easily view and edit stuff from over 20 years that we had forgotten about. Now love FinalCutPro. Just wonder why the son in law keeps banging on about Premier. Still lots to learn, so thanks for these tips, one of which I had found by accident. All the Best Dave. ps I used CleanMyMac for a long time now.

    Brooooo...I don't like TH-cam videos typically, but I had to for this one. I just switched to FCX back in January, so as I'm adjusting to everything this is going to save me so much time! What I appreciate is most people talk about the basic keyboard shortcuts when they are on this topic, and now I feel like I actually learned something. Thanks!

    Good stuff, Scott! Your FCPX tips have been extremely useful for me. I’ve been a longtime Premiere (and early FCP) user but have finally used this quarantine time to learn the new Final Cut Pro X.

    Great Video, can you kindly make a video on how to actually start a project. From very beginning! How to organize where the FCPX file goes and what is a Project/ Library/ Timeline. How to set up the project, the basics beginning of starting a FCPX video. Thanks! 🤞🏼

      Not a video I'm going to make right now, unfortunately. If you're just starting FCPX from the beginning, I suggest checking out Lynda.com. Watch the whole essentials training.

    Hey, cool tips! A have the mx master mouse, I put the clip cut on the middle mouse button. And top & tail cuts on back & forward buttons of the mouse. So removing a part from a clip is just two clicks. I use it all the time.

    • @scottmckenna
      @scottmckenna  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes super convenient. Though I put my top and tail on the flat button under the thumb and the forward and back buttons are shuttle controls to play and rewind. Saves tons of time.

    Hey Scott! Thanks for the amazing video. Been using FCPX for a couple years now but never encountered these tips.
    I have a few questions about FCPX and maybe you could help me out.
    - When adding transitions to clips, some of them affect the entire video, like the Cube transition. I sometimes want the 'cube' animation to just work for a certain image on the video. Is there a workaround that?
    - What is the deal with Ken Burns? Is it something useful or important that we can use for video editing?
    - Is there a way where we can create motion graphics on FCPX? I am very interested in the way Vox produces its videos and I am aware that they use After Effects for a majority of their videos. But, can the same be done on FCPX too?
    Thanks once again! God bless :)

    • @JorgeSilvestrini
      @JorgeSilvestrini 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Roel - I'm also very new at FCPX but want to try and answer some of your q's... Ken Burns has its uses in the video - you might want to try it to move in and out, like zooming from your camera, if used lightly it can create a very nice effect. I've seen some tutorials on TH-cam about how to do this and it is fun. Check out the software MOTION. It is a compliment to FCPX and does most of the animation work that you might want to. Lastly, have you tried plugins? There are some things that I really won't need to spend some time with because plugins already do it. They have a cost, but in comparison, they save me time and they are only a 1 time buy for hopefully many uses down the road.
      Hope this helps! :)

      Yes I do all color in fcpx. No plugins needed.

    Scott, I am totally new to this, I like your shortcuts, but one thing I cannot get in FCPX 10.2.2 is when I play the video clip and it's zoomed in a little the timeline doesn't move with the playhead. It's very annoying. Anyway to fix this? I am using an older macbook pro. Thank you!

    • @victoryenglishschool
      @victoryenglishschool 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In other words, once the playhead reaches the far right, it just keeps going and the timeline doesn't move with it...
