Just to clarify something like any cocky technician would want to : file size and "your computer's capacity to handle it" is not correlated. XAVC codecs are Group-Of-Picures based codecs and if your 1h rush weights 300mo your PC will have a really bad time reading it since it has to calcultate almot every frame it displays. XAVC ALL-Intra codecs are way heavier recording format but will be easier for your NLE to read because it won't have to interpolate anything inside a GOP to read it, it just has to read each frame already fully calculated, the so-called intra frames.
I got this camera about 6 months ago, and being a new photographer and TH-camr, I was COMPLETELY overwhelmed. (iPhone filming to a7siii was a big leap.) I took 2 hours and went through this video minute by minute, set my settings, and I feel like I know 1000% more about my camera now. I copied most of your settings, but ended up preserving the previous custom setting of making the AEL button the exposure lock button. Do you think there's an easier way to lock in the exposure than that? I was noticing a lot of distracting automatic exposure adjustments when I would wave my hands while talking to the camera. Definitely not idea, obviously! Thanks so much for the INCREDIBLE video.
First time commenting. I've enjoyed your content (since GH5 days) for a while now, and just want to say thank you for everything you've shared. Your content, vulnerability and transparency/generosity has meant SO MUCH to me in my personal journey into videography! Again, thanks for everything!
@@scottmckenna Sure thing. I went from GH5 to S1H, and now to a7s iii - in an attempt to balance feature set with a co. and system I think I can settle into for the long haul. Panasonic scares me in that their sales are very bad and their responsiveness to customers (read: AF complaints) makes me tenuous. When Sony actually fixed everything the customers have been complaining about, it demonstrated a customer allegiance, and willingness to prioritize customer relations - that I've been looking for. I'm a programmer, and I want to branch off into my own video business in preparation for old age (want to work for myself). Your business insights and methodology sharing is CRUCIAL to my preparation - I can't really thank you enough. You are very courageous to share your emotional challenges and business challenges so transparently - I think I would like you as a personal friend (if I knew you), as I'm into personal growth and nurturing of others as well. Great video! I was wondering, on your unit do you get a jittery image viewing through the EVF when filming in either HD / 4K S-I 10bit codec. The issue literally only occurs with the S-I codecs and is totally smooth with no issues in all other codecs. The image on the main screen and the final footage is absolutely fine, just the EVF view in S-I. I don’t normally use the EVF, but it was a very bright day and I didn’t have an external monitor with me so i decided to use the EVF to get the shot and noticed this issue. I’ve got the latest firmware, tried resetting the camera, got EVF quality on high, and tried different lenses with the various stabilisations turn on and off. I’m wondering if this is just my unit or a more common problem nobody is talking about? It would be very much appreciated if you could let me know if you have the same issue as I don’t know anyone around me who owns one to compare, and I’d rather not send it back to Sony and be without it if it just turns out to be a general firmware / software issue. Thanks. Best wishes.
Just a recommendation that Gerald has, he thinks Cine2 + Movie color is the best instead of 4 + Pro, when you want good color and a little bit more DR than Standard. Just a friendly note! Thanks for the video though!
dont know if you guys gives a damn but if you are stoned like me during the covid times then you can watch all the new movies and series on Instaflixxer. I've been watching with my gf recently :)
Great video! I love these kinds of setup tips. So I guess the A7siii does do active stabilization in 4K? I don’t think my a7iii can do that. Maybe I need to upgrade 😊
If you press on Fn button and in that menu you select Exposure Mode; then you can choose P (program auto) A (aperture priority) S (shutter priority) or M (manual exposure) mode.
@@scottmckenna Bad advice, you can get an Atomos Ninja V and a compatible SSD for less than the price difference between the A7iii and the A7Siii. It's your money to waste, but you're not making any use of the A7Siii's strengths, an A7iii would save you a couple of grand.
The GH5 has always had incredible IBIS. The a7siii is very good as well. Haven’t done a side by side to compare but if I had to guess, I’d still say the gh5 is probably better. It’s easier for the camera to do with a m 4/3 sensor.
File load not working for me. My Sony A7?SIII says "file does not exist". I used a SD card in slot 1, and a CFX card, and copied the file to a few other directories besides "root". Formatted the card and tried again, same thing.
Ok, I find the A7S3 saves settings to SD card #1 at /PRIVATE/SONY/SETTING/7SM3/CAMSET/ The Sony guide doesn't even say this, I found it by saving the current settings and then looking for them.Just as well, since now I have a copy of the original camera settings, and can use them if I decide I don't like yours. Because its easy to loose them by formatting the card, or putting in a new one, best to save them to my hard drive.

So awesome! It would be great if you did a walkthrough on how you actually setup the buttons. Cheers gr8 video
Really surprised about your first 4 buttons, as they are already the same on my camera :D thanks for your video and tipps!

Yes. Active in 4K.
Scott try to rent a fx series camera I feel like for your overall workflow it would do wonders
I’m really happy with our c200s and I have 3 of them and lots of lenses. Not going to be making a switch any time soon.
Also, where do you find Auto shutter in the menu? do you mean Shutter priority mode on the wheel [S]
If you press on Fn button and in that menu you select Exposure Mode; then you can choose P (program auto) A (aperture priority) S (shutter priority) or M (manual exposure) mode.
how do you set the auto shutter button? the ael.
Should I get the Sony A7siii or the sony a7iii for youtube/vlogging style content. What would you recommend?!
A7siii if you can afford the price difference. The flip out screen is incredibly important for vlogging

I cant find how to set AEL to auto shuter , i am on manual mode , i look on expose settings and i cant find this , pls help me
You have to change Exposure Ctrl Type to Flexible Exp. Mode. Then you change AEL to TV Auto/ Manual Switch
