    These guys made this job harder than it needed to be. Just take the Christmas tree clips out and pull the headliner. There’s enough room to get the nuts off the back and place the new one in. Save a lot of time too!

      @MikeLaRock88 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's what I did. Even if the liner comes out the side, you can slide it back in easy without taking all that off.
      The guy did it the "right" way though, I just wanted to see if it was screws or bolts underneath

      Thanks for the info. I’ll give this a shot first before I tear the whole thing apart. My brake light is shorting and blowing the brake light fuse so I get to have the pleasure of doing this soon.

    While you were in there, I would have gone ahead and replaced both the master cylinder and the transmission filter. 🤣

    Thank you very much. A much needed video. Since I watched your video I used a dremel to cut out the center of the original fixture. Then held the nut and screwed both sides off. At that point I was able to use the clips and install the new LED brake light like you showed. If you don't want to keep your old fixture that saved me from having to do anything inside the truck. Thanks again. At first I thought the old seal was kicking my butt.

      In case you're still watching Mr. Pritchard, I want to thank you for your information, because You saved me so much headache, my 01 Double cab has the same setup, and I was about to send my new brake light kit back because i didn't want to deal with removing the head liner just to replace the light, again thanks sir !!!

    Ok so when i tell you this, you and other viewers that bought this same LED light will be like WTF. So look, There is NO need to cut the wires. The plug WILL fit perfect. All yall have to do is: with a very small flat head screwdriver, on the LED plug push down slightly on the 2 male pins to align them with the female pins in the OEM plug. And thats it. It will clip on like if it was all OEM. You welcome.

    Haah! Seems I didn't even read Kenneth's comment properly. Looks like he cut-off the center portion of the lamp enclosure and then reached the retaining nuts through the access hole to hold them in place, so he could unscrew the bolts from the front. I planned to do this yesterday but pushed it to late PM because it was too hot. I wrongly understood that he "Dremell-ed off" the carriage bolt heads directly from the lamp assembly and once it was off, just "fished" for the broken parts through the access hole. It turned equinox pretty quickly yesterday so I wasn't able to do anything. Looks like your approach is still the most efficient way of removing the 3rd brake lamp enclosure if you're no longer going to use it.

  • @michaelwelschmidt9338

    You can just cut the bolt heads out from the outside with a Dremel tool. Cut through plastic. You don’t need to mess with the headliner. You’re throwing away the old light. Why preserve it at the expense of ruining your headliner?

    Hello Merk - I've been meaning to do the same R/R on my '03 Tacoma. My brake light lens has gotten grossly faded, but I've always been fazed by the unnecessary complication of loosening the headliner. I mean, to replace a light enclosure that appears so misleadingly simple??? But still, I want to thank you for your work on this clip. It gives me a better idea of the access hole. Meaning, I can just "Dremel Off" the retaining bolt heads (per Kenneth Pritchard below), and then fish out the broken bolt-shafts/nuts through the access hole.
