00:00-00:13 Intro
00:14-00:21 Demonstration
00:22-00:55 Why does it sound so cool?
00:56-02:55 How to practice it
03:24-03:58 Adding open strings
03:59-04:46 Adding pitched plucks
04:47-05:24 Putting it all together
05:25-05:51 The only deviation
There is so much here to unpack! Fantastic decomposition of the full piece into manageable components that are themselves easy to learn. I just wish I had some way to play the slow portions on infinite loop so I could practice each section indefinitely.
Jayme Lewis Dude Complete Respect!! You, not only, are a fantastic bassist, but a fine teacher as well. I have also, over the years, enjoyed the teachings of Stu Hamm. He used similar methods as you and I'm reminded of one in which he likened the use of the paradiddle in alternating the left and right hands in counts of four. Cool stuff to learn..... Thanks, as always, for uploading....
Excellent video, hugely informative and has given me an extra dimension to some of my slap bass techniques, thanks!
I've mastered this. It tooks me for 5 month to make it sound like clean as hell. And I already use this technic in my church. THANKS TO YOU !
Dude that's so awesome! Could you send me a video, or tag me on twitter or instagram or something? I'd love to share it with my audience if you're ok with that!
Very informative,thanks for sharing!
Precise and simple love it
Never thought to go to TH-cam and just watch someone break down how to do some of the more tricky bass techniques. I think I just got lucky when I was mainly playing guitar-I learned a bunch from friends. Thank you for the help in making this video! Being mostly self taught, I honestly didn’t know where to start. I do now!
Thank you so much, im guitarrist but i love the bass, so now i learn this and i can play this. Í love it.

Gracias por tu videos
Always Awesome!
Thank you Ernie!
Pro tip: this slap/hammer/slap/pop pattern is sort of the basic skeleton of "Lacquer Head" by Primus, an all-time great bass track (by an all-time great bass player). If you can do this lick from this video, you can play Lacquer Head too.
Lacquer head is actually not played like that, it’s Slap hammer pluck hammer slap hammer pluck hammer.
After a lot of time I can do it. Thanks! This video enhances a lot my slap technique.
Awesome Javier! I'm honored! I'd love to see it sometime! If it's not too much to ask, would you mind sharing this video for me? I'd really appreciate the help!

I practiced this for the past 2 hours after watching this video about 6 times to make sure I got everything you were saying. Really enjoyed the lesson over all, I found myself using this all over the neck in no time; and I have added my ring finger to a third pluck.
