  • Does Geotextile and landscape fabric keep rock from growing in your rock? Let's take a look at my driveway where I used some and where I didn't, I think you might be surprised!
It's no secret that weed, and grass seed will germinate anywhere, but some people have stated, "you must use fabric to keep the weeds down".
Products similar to the Amazon Affiliate link below will smoother out grass that you may place it over. However, its designed for use in a variety of construction and landscaping projects, this commercial grade woven geotextile fabric provides superior stability and separation of base aggregates & soils (with limited permeability) while also offering added UV resistance for exposed use in nursery, greenhouse, or silt fence applications.
I have provided some links below to the various items shown in the video. Please know that the Amazon links are affiliate links, and a portion of the sale is paid out to me in commission and does not affect the price you pay for the product. Purchasing these items through the links (or anything after using the link) is a great way to support the channel and allow me to bring more content to you all. Thanks, as always for your support!

It doesn’t make sense to place a geotextile under a layer of soil if your goal is to prevent weeds. If you want to effectively avoid weeds, the geotextile should be the top layer, directly under mulch, gravel, or whatever surface layer you are using. Placing it under the soil will allow weeds to grow through the soil above it, defeating the purpose of using the geotextile in the first place.

You are correct, placing it under soil does no good. Unfortunately, materials such as mulch (unless completely replaced) will decompose into soil and then you create the Oreo affect for whatever to germinate in. The purpose of this video was to show when using geotextile as a separation between aggregate and soil, that weed seed can and will still germinate in the rock. People often get the misconception that the material itself will 100% keep weeds free in the area in which it is used. Thanks for stopping in.
