I saw that episode before I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and ME-CFS, the same illness Dorothy has here. And, it resonated with me even then as a woman, and a WOC at that, because we are believed even less. Once I was diagnosed, and I rewatched this episode, I wept in release and gratitude. The Golden Girls will always be the best show ever for treating all of these huge issues in such a human way. May your memory be for blessing always, Bea Arthur. 💖

Probably not too much of a stretch to imagine that she had the same experience as Dorothy, though it's more tragic in her case because it's her own husband telling her that she needs a new look rather than a medical check-up she might actually need.

"You'll always be my sisters." One of the last lines in the show turned out to be one of the most touching revelations of their whole relationship.
These girls argued, got on each other's nerves, and shaded the hell out of each other, but at the core of everything, their love for each other was the strongest bond between them. The show truly has one of the greatest portrayals of friendship in any show or movie.

Whrn dorothy said "your hurting me" it sent chills up my spine. It was a bit scary to see how fast rex went to getting physical with someone, like violence was the only way he knew to get what he wanted, even if it was just a tight squeeze on the arm. Dorothy always would protect those she cares genuinely for, even if she puts herself in harm's way.
She respected blanche, treated her like an adult by respectinh her choices even if they were bsd, but wanted to protect her. Dorothy doesn't take shite and will hand it back just as if not harder.

“I still wish you a better doctor than you were to me.” That’s one of my favorite Dorothy speeches. I’ve had the unfortunate situation of having a doctor like that when I too was diagnosed with CFS and Crohns Disease. They treat you like you’re crazy and making it up for attention instead of saying they just don’t know what’s wrong with you. And I honestly thought of that scene with Dorothy. Good for her!

I am so glad and thankful that I was exposed to this show. I don't know if I ever would have watched it on my own accord.
The writing, the acting, the chemistry it truly is one of the best shows ever in the history of sitcoms. I've seen every episode at least once and will probably see every episode at least two or three more times.

Well you know when you were a kid the GG didn't hit you hard till you became an adult and got a better in depth understanding that these are common things that people as adults go through every day. A lot of shows I watched as a kid I rewatched as an adult and ended up seeing the episodes in a different light and got a better understanding of what they were portraying.

Dorothy Zbornak would never have existed without Bea Arthur. I was in my twenties when it was on cable TV in the 80’s. I’ve alway loved the show. Curious by nature , I was always curious who they were referring to in their one liners like., Ish Kabibble, reference to Rose who would be amused by him , one liner by Dorothy. Thank you for posting. I Appreciate your hard work. Stay safe 😊😷❤️

Not gonna lie that first speech made me tear up as a person that was also treated that way by my cardiologist I was seeing in my early teen years who would tell me my heart issue was all in my head, to me having low sodium levels and I was dehydrated, to it being because i'm obese (I was about 10 pounds overweight), to going back and saying i'm crazy and screaming at me to get out of her office and never come back. Eventually my heart issue got so bad to the point where I would collapse and/or I would pass out. I was at the age where I could see an adult cardiologist now and he diagnosed me on the first day of seeing him because he did research for my symptoms a couple hours before he saw me.

The one with Dr. Budd is 100% correct. sadly there is doctors that don’t give a shit about pts that are sick and that’s sad.
Btw I work with an eye doctor and for him not to retire (he is 68 going almost to 69) indicates to me he loves his profession and cares for his Pts. I wish there were more doctors that would take their job seriously
Dorothy made a good point about this and this is very well said 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Dorothy was always the voice of reason. She was also the butt of the jokes especially when it came to her failed marriage and dating prospects. I was so happy she found true love when she least excepted in Lucas (I just wish they put her in a better dress lol!) The writers captured Bea’s personality in those moments here. These moments make us laugh and cry over and over again! ♥️

I think I first watched this show as a young teenager. For years, Sophia was my favorite. As I grew into my early 20s (now, in my late 30s), I realized that Dorothy is my hands down favorite. Not just on this show, but probably my favorite character of all time. I Love Lucy had been my favorite show my whole life, until this came along and topped it. Dorothy was relatable in that she always felt like the ugly duckling. She was very smart, practical and truly believed in approaching life in a fair and honest way. I think Dorothy believed good karma would come around to those who make an honest effort in life. I pitied Dorothy for all of the creeps and losers she dated that dumped on her, all the while being optimistic that her prince would come along. She felt dumped on and disrespected at work (by the students) and was probably the most demeaned by her own mother. I too have a mom who is overwhelmingly pessimistic and vocally critical - it can crush your soul and ego, if you aren't already grounded in yourself and aware of your own worth. I so related to Dorothy and was heartbroken by the injustices she suffered. Yes, she eventually found her husband, but look at how long she had to wait in life. I think Blanche and Rose (and Sophia) were the type of friends that could rib her, but also brought out her strengths and boosted her. I think Dorothy really came into her own because of their respect and faith in her. I admired Dorothy's strong traits and sharp tongue and cried right along with her, in the bitter sweet moments.
This show will always be one that I will treasure.

@@nicolenewsome4863 Western medicine tends to over-medicate, rely heavily on pharmaceuticals unnecessarily, suppress symptoms rather than diagnosing and treating causes, and dismissing anything that doesn't fit into a perfect diagnosis box. Dorothy and Sophia are arguably the wisest of them. They always have the best moments of wisdom, but I do acknowledge that Blanche and Rose have their own moments of great speeches. Blanche telling Rose that AIDS is not a bad person's disease, and telling Richard that his children are growing up without him and that it's hurting them. Even Rose telling Sophia that it's okay to love Phil even if she felt ashamed of him

    I've loved this show for
    years, since my grandma
    introduced me to it!
    I love Dorothy's
    demeanor when some
    one or thing makes her
    mad, 'if looks could kill!'
    Dr Budd enraged me
    with his arrogance in his
    first appearance and
    then here his own wife
    tells him off!
    But his arrogance
    shines thru her entire
    speech and even after
    she walks away!
    Her speech to Dennis
    and Rex stands out to
    me as well: we need
    more loving parents
    and loyal friends like
    this these days as they
    seem far and in
    between.
