I once met Bea in London and gave her a really good laugh. She was walking with a friend of hers in Holland Park as i was walking my dogs and when i saw her i went to her and her friends and asked if i could take a photo of her with my dogs. She loved dogs and didn't say no, then she asked me why i wanted a photo of her with my dogs instead of with me and i had to tell her the truth. I had four dogs whom i called Dorothy, Sofia, Blanche and Rose and because they were all female and were golden retriever i called them the Golden Girls. She absolutely loved it. My favorite scene in All of Golden girls is the flashback scene of Rose, throwing a birthday meal with her late husband, in a past scene before she sold her house and moved in with Blanche and Dorothy. She is talking to her husband as if he is there, basically saying goodbye to the home that she shared with him. That scene is incredibly beautiful to me.

I think there could be because there are always wonderful talented older women in show business. In fact, the show was inspired by two other older funny women, Doris Roberts and Selma Diamond (who was also the inspiration for Dick Van Dyke’s Sally Rodgers).
@@mauricedorreboom5388 right! All they would need would be an illustrator, they already have all of the stories done. I would absolutely love that so much. It reminds me of when Rose and Blanche tried to write the children's book!

I used to watch this show with my mum year after year. My mum passed away at 88 last year then Betty White passed and then all the great women in my life had gone. But I’ll always remember the girls and my mum and her laughs at the show, through watching the reruns of my girls
My all time favourite program too, that also got me loving cheesecake. Even now, after all these years, when going out for a coffee with friends, i order cheesecake.
One of the best sitcoms ever written for television. Written for everyone, young, older, men, women, gay and straight!! It was an amazing show with amazing actresses portraying wonderful characters. PS, I don't want to forget Stan's character. He was awesome too!!
I don’t remember watching the Golden Girls when it was first on Saturday nights. And I was probably too young to understand what the relationship between them was all about. Now, I am much older than when these lovely ladies played their roles and can truly relate to their experiences in every performance. My only regret is that I think it would be absolutely wonderful in today’s world to be able to experience the friendship, support and compassion of living this type of life for real. There’s so many single women who live alone and far away from their adult children and I think out loud, wouldn’t it be great to always have someone to eat cheesecake with and talk things over instead of texting and waiting for a reply. I’d appreciate it if anyone else has thought the same.
I have thought the same thing. I am almost 63 but I've always wondered why more seniors didn't move in with each other and share the rent and other responsibilities. Would save on expenses and prevent loneliness. Will always love this show!
Golden Girls, probably the only sucessful show I can think of where women over 50 were the main stars. I mean that same show probably wouldn't even make it to network today based on that alone, they broke boundaries and changed the world, true legends
@Ryan Joseph tbh Hot In Cleveland ripped off GG almost completely so it's definitely not on their level. I never could watch that show much because not only that it ripped of Golden Girls but the writing and chemistry wasn't nearly as funny or good.
Grace and Frankie on Netflix is pretty good. Update: I have to add S7 of G&F was released recently and I have to say the writing and everything is not the same quality as the first 5 seasons (I don’t care for S6 either). I loved every single episode of Golden Girls!
I think that this show was and still is one of the greatest shows out there. There never will be another show like it. If this show in 2015 can still make a 34 year old man cry with joy and laughter you know it will continue to be great for years to come and to generations that arn't even born yet. Thank you Golden Girls for Being a Friend.
SilverSpark Rants There's an episode where they talk about dying and staying together until the end and Rose has a line about "what do we do when there's only one of us left?" and it's such a cruelly ironic moment
Every time the Golden Girls we’re on, ( I don’t remember if it was Saturday or Wednesday night), then I’d go over to my grandmas house and watch the Golden Girls with her. My grandpa had passed so I would spend quality time with her. She had 2 neighbors ( who were sisters that had lost their husbands too). The older people that they were friends with began to call the 3 of them, the Golden Girls. It’s a good memory for me as my grandma died in 14 at the age of 93.
Yes and that's because they weren't dated of the time like tv shows are doing now. They dealt with HUMAN issues not political or topical issues of the day. Alzheimers, Homosexuality, Mixed Marriage, impotence, Ageism, Unemployment, Homelessness etc.
Jody Doherty HOW RIGHT YOU ARE! I couldn’t agree with you more & it is why we stopped watching late nt. talk shows few yrs ago( all politics). This is pure fun escapism but timely issues that we all face even today(menopause, old age, memory, divorce, marriage, kids, etc) but done so cleverly & with humor! Miss this series but love reruns!❤️
monsterocket did Bea Arthur play the rather masculine part opposite Lucille Ball in Mame? wonderful actress but put with the others, just fantastic. they were all my favourites and complimented each other brilliantly. Sonny and Cher, Miami is Nice, tap dancing, cheesecake, etc. just to think of them makes me chuckle and for scripts like that, most comedienne would die for....
I've always heard that Bea was unbelievably difficult and mean! She used to do some shitty things to betty especially. It bums me out because ever since I heard things like that years ago, it really changed the way I watched the show.
It was lovely how they explained Estelle not being able to participate. She was already suffering from Alzheimer’s then. These women were all a class act. And while Bea may not have been close to Betty (Betty has always been frank about Bea not having the greatest affection for her offscreen), they were consummate professionals and treated each other with the utmost kindness and respect at all times. Rue and Betty remained close friends until Rue’s passing and they all cared a great deal for Estelle, who ironically, was the youngest of the four but was the first to leave us. Rue had a clause in her contract where she kept all of her costumes from the show and Betty had the opportunity to see them again after her passing.it was a very touching walk down memory lane. I can’t help but think of the scene when the four characters discussed what would happen when there was only one of them left and now there is only Betty, who just turned 99 last week. This show was my Grandma and my favorite show every Sat night and every time I watch it now it’s like having her back with me (she passed away suddenly in 99). When you create television that transcends time and transports you that way you’ve truly made something special.
When Betty white brings up the fact that Bea wasn't too fond of her off screen she still very professionally and with the utmost respect and affection for her co-star still has the nicest compliments for Bea. Like what a great and talented actress she was and how she was very happy and fortunate to have worked with Bea and the other ladies and what terrific experience the golden girls was for her......Betty white is a terrific actress and you can tell she is a great person with a heart of gold for people, animals and the environment ❤you Betty white and the golden girls
@@chriskay1449 Back then I am not sure if they were aware of the difference as they have many of the same effects. I knew a man with Dementia and even his wife could not tell the difference between that and Alzheimer's
It hit me hard when all 4 of them passed away, not just Betty. But I get what you mean. With Betty still around we had a link to the programme. Now we just have the DVDs, reruns on television and of course our memories.
Yes, I understand that sentiment. Each one’s passing was difficult and emotional, but Betty was the glue that kept that show alive for so many years after the 3 other actresses passed on 10 years or more before Betty. RIP Estelle, Bea, Rue and Betty. We miss all of you, but we are so glad we can still enjoy the reruns, DVDs, and marathons of The Golden Girls and be grateful for the legacy you left for so many fans!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Always amazed me that Estelle Getty was actually a year younger then Bae Arthur but she still managed to pull off a character that seemed twice her age. A real gem of an actress we had there. Reminds me a lot of Ann Morgan Guilbert whom played grandma Yetta on the Nanny. She was only about 5 years younger then her daughter on the show Rene Taylor but because of the amazing actress she is we believed she was 40 years older.
@@ladytruth303 betty is only like 4 months older than bea. Bea is a year older than estelle. Bea and betty born in 1922. Estelle in 1923.. Im no math whiz.. but i dont think that's a 16yr difference lol
I know this comment is years old, but for anyone reading that also loves Yetta, it might interest you to know that the actress who played her is also the mother of the actress who played Lucy, Blanche's promiscuous niece.
This is pure, clean, fun and nutritious comfort TV!! It is healthy for you and does not contain all the junk, added preservatives, sugars and chemicals like the Kardashians do! The Golden Girls are pure, clean and fun TV!
My girls;) whenever I feel sad or down I just watch my girls and they make me feel better! I can watch every episode a thousand times and never get sick of them! The only episode that I refuse to watch more than once is the very last episode. As long as I don't watch the last episode, in my heart, The Golden Girls never really ended.
Oh me too!! The girls always make me feel better, sometimes I put the DVDs on at night and they help me to sleep. The only episode I haven't watched over 100 times is the final! Xxxx
+Sophia Sayegh I think the very last episode was Seems like old times from the Golden Palace. The very last time the 4 girls were together, and a very sad ending.
+Sophia Sayegh yes I do the same thing ... the sense of the sitcom is actually about our parents and what comedy in the 80's is all about. I have all the series it was such an experience! I commend the wit of Susan Harris!!!
“Rest In Peace To Betty White it’s been confirmed she passed today at the age of 99 years old just 2 weeks before her 100th birthday of January 17th she will be truly missed as a tv American icon” #AllTheGoldenGirlsAreTogetherNow🕊
My favorite episode is where Rose doesn't tell the girls her date is a Dwarf, Blanche was Hilarious! Enters the room with the platter, says "SHRIMP"! And circles the room embarrassed, funniest scene I have ever seen on TV.
I just can't imagine Betty as man hungry Blanche or Rue as naive Rose, they absolutely did the right thing in swapping roles. The scripts are still funny today, you could use them word for word and they would still be fresh and current but I don't think you'd ever be able to find four actresses to deliver them as superbly again.
Betty White played a Blanche like character in Mary Tyler Moore that's why Bea Authur wanted to switch them up because Rue played a kind of a ditzy character on Maude and Bea said she didn't want it to be like Maude and whoever Blanche played on Maude meets whoever Betty White played on Mary Tyler Moore
I agree Stuart T.....I can't imagine it the other way around either......I don't see Rue as "Rose"...Rue Did Blanche FAR TOO WELL! She had the WALK, the MOVES…...she LOOKED & TALKED the part!!! Betty just DIDN'T"HAVE" That.
I'd like to think they had a huge hug and some laughs as Betty joined them in the afterlife. Soar high 🕊 and thanks for so many laughs and tears ladies. ❤
I doubt it. They were just actresses. They were not best friends. Why do ppl do that when it comes to actors/actress? They make up these scenarios as if these ppl are incredibly close. They were just actresses who worked together on tv. When ppl do that, I question their sense of reality because their imagination is beyond imaginable to make up such scenarios.
I really liked how they didn't make Stanley a complete joke throughout the series but had him more sympathetic towards the end and how he and Dorothy finally put their past behind them and still carried their love for one another on. The final scene where the Priest asks if anyone objects, you can see the melancholy in his face and the reality that he knows he must let go of Dorothy and allow her to be happy again. A very nice job by the writers especially here.
Rob Graff "I hate lying. Back in St. Olaf there was one day every year when the mayor would gather all the children who lied together and point at them." -Rose
On one episode the girls said Rose would die before the other 3 of them, during an argument, but in real life she outlived the 3. I miss all 3, I miss the 80s. I was born in 1984. Very sad how fast time goes, we all live and then die. Rue, Estelle and Bea made a legacy. RIP... Betty has made a legacy as well, and I dread the day she's gone. Thank you for being a friend
I'm watching this on 4/11/24 and seeing these great ladies is a joy. Is it strange to feel like I'm missing family members ? RIP ladies you are all missed dearly.
"Dorothy Zbornak was probably the only totally sane person on the show." Bea Arthur! That's why she was my favorite she was always on top of things. She was hilarious and also seriously down to earth when she had to be.
The first time I saw the golden girls, was when I was sick,at my grandma's house. I always think of her when I watch this show. Thank god she is still with us, and I love spending time with her.
Betty white looked like my grandma did at 50, she was beautiful and passed away suddenly. Every time I hear the song or see Betty white I think of my wonderful grandma who was taken too soon..
I as well watched this show with my beloved grandmother. Now that she is gone I love to watch the old episodes and think of how we would laugh. I miss her so much..😒😢
I simply cannot imagine any other actresses playing the parts of these characters. This show was a break from reality and so fun to watch! My favorite character was always Dorothy with her quick wit and sarcasm.
My favourite was always Rose. But in order of the other 3 I would have to say Sophia, Dorothy and Blanche. But I loved all 4 ladies, but I always had a soft spot for Rose and still do.
I'm 22 ever since I was a little girl watching it with my grandma I've loved this show and always will. one of my all time favorite shows lovely charismatic funny ladies true friends with life lessons
I am a guy and me and my grandfather used to watch it together, if not times, my whole family. Me and my grandfather used to crack the heck up off these ladies....a lot of guys loved the golden girls as well.
how could anyone dislike the golden girls???? what a work of art! I watch them whenever I'm feeling down. always guaranteed to get me laughing and in a better mood! thank you girls for the never ending laughs! True Icons! The golden girls !!!!!
Another beauty about this programme is it will never age. As we get older we can see a little bit of ourselves. All four fabulous ladies are now in spirit, but can you imagine the laughs! Thank you. ❤️
Who the hell could dislike this video or the Golden Girls?? Only losers This show is timeless! Definitely one of the all time greatest shows with some of the all time best actresses!! Even younger generations, that were being born while Golden Girls was originally being shown, are into the Golden Girls! I love it!

Amazing line for sure. Sophia has the most brilliant lines. Really good one. OMG!! can't stop laughing. Poor Blanch, she is a trooper!! LOL! Jacqueline.
I still find it one of the best show on TV that was made and kept going for 7 years. I look forward to the marathons that come up periodically. RIP: Estelle-Sofia; Bea-Dorothy; Rue-Blanche; Betty-Rose! Thank you for leaving such a wonderful ensemble and TV legacy! ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Bea Arthur actually grew up only an hour from where I live. Unfortunately, I'm only 42 and I never got the chance to meet her, nor either of our beloved TV friends, but it is pretty neat to know that I have walked on the same grounds, that our "Dorthy," has walked.
R.I.P to Estelle, Rue and Bea. Three incredibly dirty, outspoken and damn hilarious women. Never has a show made me laugh and cry as much as this one has. Thank god Betty is still with us❤️🙌🏽
She's still kicking....amazing, for a while there i thought there was a 1 year curse, (each dying a year apart), but Rose broke that pattern. She's one that will live to be 100.
So sad to say, Betty White passed away 3 days ago @ the remarkable age of 99. She passed on New Year's Eve, December 31, 2021. She would've been 100 in 17 days, on January 17, 2022. She was born on January 17, 1922. RIHP Ms. Betty White. The last Golden Girl.💙😇😪🙏🏻💙‼️
I was in my twenties when I first started watching it, and loving it. Now in my sixties, the show still has that universal appeal! Thank you to each of you who brought us joy through this show weekly, and for the happiness and anticipation you gave to all my relatives of the “greatest generation.”
I started watching this show in the late 80's! I was around seven. At the time I didn't realize it had, been on for several years already! I also remember my friends, and I sitting at the lunch table talking, about the show. This show brought so much joy to a lot of people, regardless of their age!
Golden Girls was the funniest comedy show in my 77 years by the perfect actress in show business ❣️ I have five of the six seasons and am so happy I do .
Just when I think I've finally decided which Golden Girl is my favorite, a different one steals my heart and so I can never choose. These ladies are so perfect for their roles, you can't help but to really love them all. They were meant to be our Golden Girls.
What makes it so unique is all four main characters despite having different personalities are equally strong unlike most comedies which features a main actor and the others are like just fillers but the Golden Girls are virtually the perfect team.
Bea Arthur was a moron full of shit. She was the one that made the air in the set tense and unpleasant. As good as she was, to cast her was a huge mistake, even Susan Harrison regreted it. If Bea was not on the show, it would have run for another 3 or 4 seasons.
Well I can't agree completely because after she left the spin off didn't fare well without her though I think golden palace was a great show too. I don't know about what personal differences between them but I loved the way they acted togather . As with most TV cast members, pop groups, even regular work places there is always tension among members. Just like regular employees because they work together don't necessarily mean they are friends.
Adrian Lemarchal Apparently you are the only one that feels that way.I feel she was great, and a great asset to the show.Otherwise she would have never been chosen, and gotten fired.
fairybits Huh??!! She got fired??!! I thought she got tired and resigned from the show. At least that's the impression I got from an interview she did.

Yea the one where he buys the old 49 Studebaker bullet nose that they concieved their child in was hilarious. He takes her back to the old makeout spot and the cop walks up to the window and says something like"you kids should get a room" then a nude Dorothy raises up and the cop looks horrified and runs off. Love that episode.
It's really tragic that Estelle couldn't be on this show, but she was a victim of lewy body dementia. I do hope that she is resting peacefully, and possibly aggravating Bea and Rue

Strange, I still watch it in 2020, and I forget that it was from the 1980s, it's still relevant today. It never gets old. My favorite sitcom ever.

Still watching on Hallmark. If not for this show I think I would have gone insane during the pandemic. Long live the Golden Girls
And now all our Girls are gone. May they forever be relaxing on the lanai in the sky. We will miss you all.

I used to watch this show with my mum year after year. My mum passed away at 88 last year then Betty White passed and then all the great women in my life had gone. But I’ll always remember the girls and my mum and her laughs at the show, through watching the reruns of my girls
My mother and I watched them together too. My Mom is gone now and miss her so much. I'm 76 now but still watch Golden Girls.
Blanche: I'm not going to stand for this
Sophia: Take it Dorothy

Bea and Estelle as Sonny & Cher... priceless :)
No honey that just means you have taste
Hot in Cleveland (based on GG) was also very successful
Lee GaryB Hot in Cleveland is the modern version, and they reek of desperation
Ditto - I'm a 34 year old woman and I adore it!!
This and Frasier for me!
2024 now and still being watched!!!!🎉🎉🎉
Sometimes when I watch the show today, I forget Betty White is the only one left.
So do I
SilverSpark Rants There's an episode where they talk about dying and staying together until the end and Rose has a line about "what do we do when there's only one of us left?" and it's such a cruelly ironic moment
SilverSpark Rants I know. It's sad to think about. At least we still have Betty.
SilverSpark Rant
Remember the line rose delivered: what happens when it's only one us left? Very eerie in that moment as u watch it today
The subjects they dealt with are still relevant today. Golden Girls hits the mark!
I love hearing Bea Arthur speak in these interviews, you can tell she's just such a smart, good-hearted person. Love her so much.
monsterocket did Bea Arthur play the rather masculine part opposite Lucille Ball in Mame? wonderful actress but put with the others, just fantastic. they were all my favourites and complimented each other brilliantly.
It bums me out because ever since I heard things like that years ago, it really changed the way I watched the show.
monsterocket 🤗❤️
Smart, yes, but Definitely not good-hearted!
monsterocket She didn’t care for Betty White.
It wasn't Alzheimer's. It was Lewy Body Dementia.
Estelle was not the youngest Rue was
@@chriskay1449 Back then I am not sure if they were aware of the difference as they have many of the same effects. I knew a man with Dementia and even his wife could not tell the difference between that and Alzheimer's
And now Betty’s gone
Rest in peace to all of the golden girls. They know how to make everyone laugh. It hit us hard when Betty White had passed away
It hit me hard when all 4 of them passed away, not just Betty. But I get what you mean. With Betty still around we had a link to the programme. Now we just have the DVDs, reruns on television and of course our memories.
Oh my gosh... yes! I feel like I lost a second mother and I never met her!
They don’t make shows this good anymore! Love these ladies forever
She was only about 5 years younger then her daughter on the show Rene Taylor but because of the amazing actress she is we believed she was 40 years older.
kraXoom Estelle had make up

My favorite episode is where Rose doesn't tell the girls her date is a Dwarf, Blanche was Hilarious! Enters the room with the platter, says "SHRIMP"! And circles the room embarrassed, funniest scene I have ever seen on TV.
"Short rib." - Dorothy 😂
For sure it was 😂😂😂
That was funny 😂😂😂😂
Let me take you "height". I mean hat. ---Dorothy
Yessss lol
I just can't imagine Betty as man hungry Blanche or Rue as naive Rose, they absolutely did the right thing in swapping roles.
The scripts are still funny today, you could use them word for word and they would still be fresh and current but I don't think you'd ever be able to find four actresses to deliver them as superbly again.
Betty White played a Blanche type character in Mama's Family that's probably why the producers though of her for Blanche.
@@twalston01 Rue played the ditzy Vivian on Maude while Betty played the man hungry Sue Ann Nivens on the Mary Tyler Moore Show.
Betty White was the man hungry character on the Mary Tyler show...She was exceptional in that role.

And Betty would have told a Saint Olaf story for old time sake…
@@TH-camReady Betty was good friends with Rue
I really liked how they didn't make Stanley a complete joke throughout the series but had him more sympathetic towards the end and how he and Dorothy finally put their past behind them and still carried their love for one another on. The final scene where the Priest asks if anyone objects, you can see the melancholy in his face and the reality that he knows he must let go of Dorothy and allow her to be happy again. A very nice job by the writers especially here.

Just when I think I've finally decided which Golden Girl is my favorite, a different one steals my heart and so I can never choose. These ladies are so perfect for their roles, you can't help but to really love them all. They were meant to be our Golden Girls.
Great show. When television shows were still tasteful.
This is easily the funniest comedy ever. I still watch it and laugh like the first time I saw it.

It's really tragic that Estelle couldn't be on this show, but she was a victim of lewy body dementia. I do hope that she is resting peacefully, and possibly aggravating Bea and Rue
Bea gave her Shady Pine threats until July 22, 2008, that's when Estelle passed away
What's lewy body dementia?
@ "Lewy body dementia, also known as dementia with Lewy bodies, is the second most common type of progressive dementia after Alzheimer's disease dementia. Protein deposits, called Lewy bodies, develop in nerve cells in the brain regions involved in thinking, memory and movement (motor control).
Lewy body dementia causes a progressive decline in mental abilities. People with Lewy body dementia may experience visual hallucinations, and changes in alertness and attention. Other effects include Parkinson's disease-like symptoms such as rigid muscles, slow movement and tremors."
