Ross, I have the exact same auger drives. When I installed them I cut the slot all the way to the top of the shield before I installed the motor. Still very good protection but makes motor and pulley removal a lot easier since i can remove the motor and not have the sheet metal in the way and put the motor on my bench for pulley repair.
Great video. Highly entertaining. We had 3 motors die this winter. They was all 40 years old or older. I bet the new ones don’t last half that long. I can’t believe you got that pulley off without any penetrating oil or heat.
There is a centrifugal switch that opens the start winding when the motor is nearly up to speed. The contacts may just need cleaned up since it’s been out in the weather. Could be the capacitor too.
My wife has a flashlight in her night stand that must be shorting out too. No light, just hums like crazy! She is incredibly protective of her broken flashlight, 😂
I had an old friend that used to say "You can't take it with you, but my wife's bringing it when she comes." I always got a kick out of that. Good video again Ross
It is a very good possibility all the motor needs is a new capacitor. You could have quickly checked that with an ohm meter without disassembling the auger.
I think that was a good possibility too. However I had one of those marathon electric motors and it became a pos after awhile. So Ross maybe be correct in avoiding that experience.
Ross, I'd have the motor rebuilt and buy a new one, this way, you'd have one as a spare and you'll wished you had one on hand in the future. Possible winding or the capacitor has gone bad. Cheers :)
EBAY it ? Less than 400$ Save the old motor for another project . It could be that the run capacitor blew .💥 Time for a bench test ? Great videos Thanks
Ross, turn off motor short out the capacitor ( screw driver across terminals , you may hear a snap, if so it is probably good ), then remove , take a ohm/ volt meter and set it on R 1 , put the leads ,one on one terminal and one on the other terminal . Watch the meter jump up then slowly drop down. If it does that it is no doubt good and issue is the motor windings and will need checked out further or replaced. If it is just the capacitor you can get the information off the capacitor and buy a new one for less than 50- 60 dollars. Worth a try. Hope this helps you. 👍🇺🇸🙏🏽✌🏻
It’s a taper lock you should be able to push the pulley off with the mounting Bolts you took out there’s a second set of threaded holes in the bushing.
My bet is on the capacitor being bad. It’s your starter motor mounted on the top side of the Outside cover. It gives your motor an extra boost of energy to get started running! I’m a moron, for entertainment only!
Great video Ross. Seems to have come off nicely. You had to struggle but not as bad as it could've been. Congrats. No breaks in the hide or busted fingers. A win, win day.
Ross, of all the things you work on on the farm, I don’t understand why you don’t have a pennatrating oil with you in your tool assortment ( pocket tool box ) lol.
It's a small wonder that farm duty electric motors last as long as they do. The challenges of removing stuck pulleys and mounting bolts exposed to the elements can be a challenge. Always entertaining to listen to your commentary!!!
A new motor will be $ 300.00 Ross do you give your cattle mineral supplement in a plastic tub? It looks like to me an empty tub would go over the motor. Cut a slot in the tub to clear electric wire. Holes in the tub , baler wire under the auger. You have a cover tied on the motor!
Ross/ anyone, I got a big problem and need help, I was changing the oil pan gasket on my 1650 diesel, long story short I did not have enough time to finish and only put 4 bolts in the pan that are tight then we got rain and when I checked it for water in the pan there was quite a little bit and now I’m scared what should I do???
@@Olivermansuper66 before you start the engine carefully take the oil pan off. Drain the water , wipe the oil pan dry with clean shop towles. You may need to replace the gasket!
Starting capacitor. Where was your PB Blaster? Could the price of grains be down because people cannot afford their morning cornflakes due to corporate greed? Cookie Monster is taking on Shrinkflation. That is where the companies downsize their product but keep their prices high or higher. We noticed a famous brand of snack that used to have a nice wide squiggly line of icing on their sweets. Now it looks like the line was put on with a small hypodermic needle. The line could only get smaller if it disappeared totally. Maybe you should simply put all of your ground in a government-set-aside program like many farmers are doing in the UK. Maybe one that would allow you to graze cattle on. Hey, Here is a good money-making idea. let's develop a spike strip that extends out into the other lane when school a school bus is stopped to pick up or discharge students. Do you think 4 flat tires would deter those idiots who pass the stop arm of a bus? Maybe a high rate of fire paintball gun to mark those idiot's vehicles as they disregard the stop arm. Maybe you should simply put all of your ground in a government-set-aside program. Maybe one that would allow you to graze cattle on. Years ago my cousin bought out the family ground of a passed-on farmer. Over 100 acres of it was flood ground of the Wabash River. He put it into a government tree-planting program, got the scouts to plant the trees, and made an income from the ground that was a waste to plant seeds on. He leases deer hunting privileges for a little more income from the ground.
Another good video thanks 👍🏻
Thanks!
👍Good job!!!!!
great video
Good luck with the motor. They don't give that size away anymore. 💲💲

Always something has to be difficult
Ok, I messed up, I forgot I'm not supposed to be eating while watching your videos, hahahaha. I'm glad it came apart well. See you later. 😂😂😂
Watching you Ross sometimes reminds me I’m not the only one having a bad day

Exactly
Yeah, even those little grain bin motors give it up after so long. At least your not in the middle of harvest or loading trucks.
My wife has a flashlight in her night stand that must be shorting out too. No light, just hums like crazy! She is incredibly protective of her broken flashlight, 😂
Lol, I bet!
Try replacing the capacitor?
Really appreciate your content. The sense of humor is spot on

Before. Removing moter check. For all three phases then check capactor

Think the different show openers are awesome
It's a sealed motor doesn't have to be undercover
Love your puller box think I'll use the same kinda box for my pullers
Take pic of what wires go where

Im getting there my project s hobby bud hope u are too
Hope the pain is not too great on a new motor Ross

That's what I thought too

We had an electric motor on a roller mill that would just buzz like that when the starting capacitors would go bad
Good video ross The belts looked better than your gate lol
Hi Ross like your video as always I was just wondering is that your only grain bin and what do you do with all the other grain you harvest ?
Ross, of all the things you work on on the farm, I don’t understand why you don’t have a pennatrating oil with you in your tool assortment ( pocket tool box ) lol.
Never seize, why not.

Now you will be able to unload the 6...5....4....3.. dollar corn.
Grain prices have been like a rocket launch count dow.
Ross, always, I follow you daily but what is going on with the 55EB, harvest will be here before you know it.
Try being on there about 35 years.

Why was that hub tapered pulley installed Backwards in the first place
Might be able to have it rebuilt pretty quickly

check capacitor
Seems on that farm wife they're always having auger problems.
A new one won't cause further sadness.
Its only money, they print more of it every day Ross! 😂😂😂
The taper lock hub probably has threaded holes in the flange to push the pulley off the taper.
Sounds like a bad capacitor
Could be worse, it could be cold and rainy
At least it wasn't raining.
Suuu dame
Do you have any kids
