    Just a note: Around 14 mins you mention Marley had 7/9 titans and Paradis had the attack and founding.
    Remember Paradis only had the founding, the Attack Titan only arrived once the owl gave it to Grisha and sent him to the walls, then to give it to Eren.

      There's more to it. He wanted the genocide cuz he had to save eldia, cuz he had to save his most important people in the world (his friends), he had to complete the selfish dream (Armin's book view about the world), ending the curse of titans.
      If he only wanted revenge as you are talking about, it takes out a lot of his characterization. Also, doing 100% genocide does not take out the curse of the titans. Notably and how I think it's meant to be interpreted, because the paths exist outside of normal time, Ymir working tirelessly to create the bodies of the titans out of sand may seem like a possible feat, though I'm pretty sure there's been so many pure, nine, and especially wall titans that she had to handmake with sand, and apparently with just one wood bucket not very efficiently... She's probably existed outside of time or reality for an unfathomable amount of time building what is effectively quadruple extra large sandmen with just a bucket.

    The REAL reason Eren started the rumbling is because you can't change the past. He has memories of events that are about to come and he knows for sure he can't change a thing.
    That's why he was laughing when Sasha died. At that point he figured out that FUTURE is unravelling in front of his eyes and all events are fixed and they cannot be changed.
    Also, I do believe that Ymir wanted for someone, anyone to free her and after so many centuries, events had to play out in exact manner so that one that HAS founding Titan is NOT of Royal blood hence he's not affected by King's will. This allowed for rumbling to happen and with Rumbling, with all enemies of Eldia destroyed, Ymir will finally be FREE.

    • @gigglesgames1
      @gigglesgames1 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That’s my exact thought. It’s not that eren wants do any of this. He is just a vessel for Ymir’s will. A young individual with the deep, and agressive, longing for freedom. Much like the Royal family gains the will of the 145th king, eren gained the will of Ymir. An example is when he saved that young boy, even though he knew it wouldn’t have mattered, because he would kill him later. He tried to go against the will of Ymir, but still saved him anyways. He cried apologetically.
      Eren isn’t the villain. He’s the pawn of a much larger god like entity.

      It's not that deep bro. Plain and simple, if Paradis island were to be attacked by Marley, the walls would be destroyed and the rumbling would happen anyways.
      It's not "well humans are bound to repeat history and 80% of the population would die one way or the other in a never ending cycle". No. If Paradise gets attacked, the wall titans will walk.

    See, here is the thing, and my personal headcannon is that Ymir is the mastermind all along and not Eren.
    Ymir created Eren/Attack Titan, they are the embodiment of Ymir's will to be FREE, that's why the Attack Titan has always fought for freedom and has always opposed the Founding Titan(based on what Kruger said).
    Ymir created Eren as someone who would free her from her servitude and slavery, that's why the title of the first episode is "To you from 2000 years" and the revelation episode which was titled "From you 2000 years ago" or something.
    It has always been Ymir "controlling" Eren, or atleast made him be obsessed with freedom so that she can free herself.

    • @vuelle9816
      @vuelle9816 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      I half-believe that. The parts of that that are canon are that
      A. Eren did in fact get that dream from Yimir in episode 1
      B. Yimir wanted Eren to come.
      But other than that we can’t be sure of anything that Yimir engaged in. Eren gave himself the dreams of freedom. Yimir can’t create humans, and Mikasa had an impact on Eren, one which Yimir can’t change on Mikasa because she is not fully eldian. Same with Levi.

      "Marley had an opportunity for peace"
      No, they didn't. Nobody besides the Tybur family even knew there were Paradiseans in the crowd. There is no peace to be made, if nobody knows who you are. This was basically Eren giving the people of Marley a one-sided ultimatum, never telling them about it, and then murdering everyone who had nothing to do with anything.
      And before you say "Well, he can't just stop, because nations will retaliate", RETALIATE WITH WHAT??? Every military in the world was destroyed in 30 seconds, and Eren can do it as many times as necessary. This also comes with a fundamental misunderstanding of how nations actually work. Upon seeing the fact that EVERY COMBINED MILITARY IN THE WORLD WAS DESTROYED IN A MATTER OF SECONDS, 90% of nations would surrender. If a nation doesn't, he can crush them, but there's no need to go as far as Eren did.
      "Well, everyone knew about Eren's raid on Liberio, so this would get EVERYONE to hate him." That's entirely his own fault. HE ATTACKED LIBERIO. Also, you mean to tell me that every individual in every nation knows about this? There are people TODAY in the age of easily-consumable 24/7 news that still can't keep up, yet alone when you have to get it via newspapers, and most of the news is several days old.
      SPOILERS AHEAD, DON'T READ PAST THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED THE MANGA
      "Oh, but Eren only has a limited amount of time left", Eren literally eradicated titans from existence at the end of the series, and you mean to tell me he can't just extend his own life?
      "But we see in the final extra chapter that the outside-world is bombing Paradis, so Eren was totally justified", If you actually think about it for more than 5 seconds, that's clearly not what happened. Remember the final chapter shows all of the main-characters(which are mostly Paradiseans) working a peaceful relationship with the outside-world, and they're returning the Paradis for audience with the Queen on a PEACE-MISSION. The remaining survivors of the outside were willing to make peace. However, we know that the island is controlled by xenophobic, genocidal Jaegerists, so either Historia refused to make peace, or the Jaegerists became more blood-thirsty, or someone who took the throne after her tried to kill the outside-world again. In other words, given what we see in the final chapters, this levels the blame of the bombing of Paradis ENTIRELY on the Paradiseans.
      The Rumbling is also just a supremely stupid strategy as it's presented. It is quite literally the WORST POSSIBLE MOVE Eren can make for a multitude of reasons:
      1)It leave the entire outside-world burned and uninhabitable for the foreseeable future if it's successful, which leaves them exactly where they started: Stuck on an island.
      2)If there are any surviving volunteers(which we know there are), and we also know there are plenty of Paradiseans who are mad at Eren for destroying their homes and killing/injuring their families when the Rumbling started, so it makes since for them to join teams and create a rebel-group against the Jaegerists, which would spark a Civil-War(and also put his friends in even more danger than if he just did nothing at all). Depending on the outcome of this Civil-War, either Paradis just becomes the new Eldian Empire, ruling and killing with an iron-fist(not very freedom of them), or the status-quo from the outside-world gets brought to the island, and nothing changes.
      There were a billion different solutions that didn't require the complete genocide of either side, but "Boo-hoo, the outside world isn't like what I read in a book. Time to destroy everything" and "muh freederm".
      TL;DR: No, the Rumbling not only not justified, it's also a stupid strategy.

    They can’t feed Eren to Zeke. And Zeke also was keeping his royal blood a secret so no one in Marley knew.
    Zeke wanted to use the founding to genocide the Eldians by making them unable to reproduce and ending the Titan powers, which he can only do in the Paths while in contact with the Founder. He himself cannot have the founder or he will fall to the Vow of Renouncing War.

But of course Joe was the great great grand son of Billy who killed Allen and so Joe deserves to die too. Eventually you start realizing that either everyone deserves to die because of some ancient ancestor doing bad things or that none of them deserve to die for shit that happened in the past by people that are not them.

      But also, put it like this, a group have been oppressed for hundreds of years, dehumanised and having all their rights taken off them with no possible way to oppose said dictators. the dictators go to a remote place and leave everyone alone for a while. the group (as a whole) that were discriminated against would probably fight against the oppressors at any possible chance they could, in fear that they could be picked on again.
      You're right in the fact that the current generation of eldians do not deserve any punishment inflicted on them due to their previous generations, but I get why they would do it. I think i worded it really bad originally so THANK YOUU!!

    Eren was justified in starting the rumbling. Out of all the available options I think he chose the better one. Atleast better than the Euthanisation plan. Hear me out.
    1) Lifting the curse of Ymir and the hate and titan cycle: I think this is the most important reason why he is justified. Erin empathised with Ymir and wanted to free her from her slavery and end the curse and rid the world of Titan ability. Because Ymir accepted, the hallucigenia was transferred to Erin along with full powers of the founding titan.
    2) Erin didn't take away the Titan power of his friends. If we was a complete maniac then he would have taken away everyone's power so that no one stands in his way. But he allows his friends to keep their powers and in fact invites them to kill him. In a way he became the villain in order for his friends to become the heroes of the world. The remaining world will view the Eldians as their savior and hence after his death, no racism and discrimination. He wanted his friends to stop him and kill the founding Titan and the hallucigenia, which started it all.
    Had the world not been as cruel as it is, I think he wouldn't have made the choice. However, because of the racism, discrimination and unforgivingness he had to do it. Will Tybur's declaration of war was the last straw. If Willy had tried negotiating peace then things wouldn't have gone this far. The culture, people, circumstances all contributed to Erin being pushed to the corner. Finally, he will be able to achieve his dream of eradicating the titans, unfortunately his dream will be achieved with his end.
    Attack of Titan reminds me of Spiderman's most famous quote - With great power comes great responsibility. Had power been used responsibly without abusing it, things wouldn't have gone far. Human greed got in the way and destroyed it all. King Fritz was where everything started to go wrong. And it needed something radical to reset things. That was brought about by the rumbling.

  • @sophocles2083
    @sophocles2083 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    I've only watched the show so idk if any more information is revealed in the manga, but it strikes me as bizarre to say Ymir loved Fritz. I believe the reason she did the things she did, like staying under his services after obtaining titan powers, is because much like Eren she had received visions from the future telling her what must be done to achieve what she wants, hence(not to downplay what she went through)her blank expression on her face throughout the flashbacks that is similar to s4 Erens expression. That would explain why she died after taking that spear, as she didn't have anything to live for after setting up the titan lineage, and she moved on to the coordinate to carry it all out. If we are to assume the 9 represent aspects of Ymir, like the cart representing her being a slave, or the warhammer her being a creator and destroyer, then the attack titan could represent her drive for freedom and revenge against not just her oppressors, but also the people who complied and betrayed her. This would explain why she seemed to instantly ditch the orders of a royal once Eren proposed the rumbling to her, as she never really was under the royals control, she was just playing along to the plan that was set in motion all that time ago(or that just was), much like Eren being a slave to himself

Before even criticizing eren, think about the idea that there was not an another choice other than the rumbling. He kept the titans powers with his comrades, which means he himself didn’t accept that idea or consider it as an option. He wanted them to stop him at any cost . Eren was just a tool between Ymir’s hands which maybe is controlling him, affecting his thoughts or maybe manipulating him. I know there's been a ton of controversy about this but I'm just going to bring it up anyhow. Jews.
    I'm Jewish and I just want to say, it's cool, there's no reason to be offended on our behalf at AoT. I know other Jews have other opinions, annnnd they're wrong lmao jk
    But the subject matter of AoT has always presented really interesting moral questions. It reminds me of a plan that was never acted upon (likely due to the allies profound denazification of Germany) that was cooked up shortly after Isreal was created. It was essentially called "the revenge", where Isreali Jews wanted to do what the Nazis had done to the gentiles of Germany as a penance. I don't remember if any particulars of the plan made it into public consciousness, but obviously it never happened.
    It's hard to judge Eren for the Rumbling in my opinion. It was him and his people or, well, everyone else. And in the end, everyone is going to protect their own over those they have never known.

    Attack on Titan is a good case of Everyone's the Asshole
    Marlay feels justified in genocide against Eldia due to the cruel nature of Eldians prior to the walls going up.
    Paradis feels justified in genocide against Marlay and their allies, due to the recent genocide attempts from the rest of the world.
    When you're fighting genocide with genocide, then isn't everyone a piece of shit?
    About the only group that managed to do anything morally right by the end of the series, are what's left of the scouts and warriors after beating Eren.

    • @buddhapunch2486
      @buddhapunch2486 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Genocide with justification at least 100 years old, holds a lot less weight than genocide now. Marley is fighting an old grudge against people who had nothing to do with it. Eldia is fighting people who want to exterminate them for ancient history

    Just gotta say.. a massive and crucial part of history is not written by victors, but by those who were dominated. Alot of our most potent and important history lies in firsthand accounts of victims. This is a big part of eldian/marlian history too

    • @deepseadarew6012
      @deepseadarew6012 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's the complete opposite of what Winston Churchill said "history is written by the victors," but according to actual historians, "history is written by those who actually took the time to write things down and leave evidence behind, and history can be revised and challenged by different perspectives and sources over time." I'm going to side the historians.
      Even in Attack on Titan, the history of Eldians was told completely different by Marley, by the Eldians in Marley, by the Eldians in Paradis, and then retold by Will Tybur.

    Your video had nothing to do with why Eren started the Rumbling. You literally spoiled the entire show without by making it more confusing, without any viewpoints on why Eren started the Rumbling. The title should say AOT summary. I still don't know why he started it after 20 minutes of wasting my time. Did Eren want to protect his friends, himself, or out of pure rage? Does he plan on sacrificing his freedom for his friends? Is it subjective? Does he want to want it for the island? Does he feel he has no freedom to decide? Does he want revenge? Is he lonely? Did Mikasa say the wrong thing? You didn't explain your thoughts on any of this.

    Anyone else see the parallels of paradis being Japan and Marley being the US. Nukes being Titans, the church of the wall being proponents of demilitarization. The devastation of Logos and the grape of Nanking?
    Its not perfect as all metaphors shouldnt be and its even smart to make it less complex by having Marley stand in for the US and China in different examples so its easier for readers to follow.

    so like yall know how there are thousands of colossal titans ins the walls right? yall think those were made from literally nothing or do yall think that the king sacrificed tons of his people to build them by turning them into colossal titans like zeke turns people into titans? cuz like if u can just make a titan form nothing, why tf doesnt eren just spawn titans to kill everyone instead of going over there to kill everyone himself. or if he was planning to just kill every eldian outside of the walls, why not just make them into colassal titans? can the founder revert someone into a normal human? if the founder can make a titan from nothing and can make them any size, can the founder just make normal people? what exactly are the limits of the founder? cuz if it can make colassal titans from nothing without requiring a sacrifice, why cant it make anything? making those colassal titans had to have required sacrifices. wait so like if yimear was doing the will of the fritz family, why did she turn everyone who had that stuff injected into them into a titan. did the fritz family want that? EXPLAIN NICK! or anyone else whose smarter than me and can explain.

    The AOT map isn't just an upside down version of our globe though. It's also mirrored. That's why North and South America are still oriented on the left side. The planet still seems to have the same orientation in relation to its orbit of the sun also. That's why the Island of Paradis has more cultural and climate similarities to areas near real world Germany than real world Madagascar. Paradis would share the same relative latitude and longitude of that area of real world Europe if the planet's orientation were still the same as ours, so their north is also our north. That's what everything seems to point to in my mind anyway...

    As I see it. The back and forth took it's toll, it was only a matter of time before someone pulled the final trigger. it was Eren who pulled the trigger first. The arguments of it was justified or not is pointless, cause it was going to be geocide one way or another. Cause it has to happen and Eren saw that.

    The AoT world doesn't simply put the South at the top, it's mirrored. If you rotated it so that what we see as North was at the top, it would seem back-to-front (with the Americas in the East and Asia in the West)

    Isn't it outstanding that the titans have the appearance of monsters yet the humans on every sight of this story are the ones committing the monstrosities?
    Eren failed at being a decent person like everyone before him because he's human and his very humane feelings turned him into a monster. The dicotomy of mankind: be the victim or the perpetrator.
