As a guy who has had metal shavings in his eyes more than he cares to remember I shiver when I see you drilling above your head without safety glasses. Very clean installation, you just keep kicking butt and moving forward.

Your electrician friend's vacuum trick was worth the price of admission. I'll remember that one!

Was a masthead mounting not possible? VHF works through “line of sight” so you’ll get better reception range and AIS target range the higher your antenna is mounted. Just curious.

The string and vacuum trick works even better if you tie a cotton ball on the end. I watched some electricians wire up a large warehouse that way, some of the conduit runs were over a 1000 feet and the line ran through without a hitch. Amazing to watch.

I love all the cool little tricks that you can only learn about from working with highly experienced people !

I’ve drilled through the bases of stern and bow rails before the trick is a good cobalt drill bit and slow rpms on the drill, the drill will go through like a hot knife goes through butter

Are you noticing any difference in range between this rubber ducky antenna vs regular style antennas? Where did you find the antenna base that clamps around round bars? I'm not finding anything around here. Thanks and awesome videos!

Small pilot hole before step but works wonders as well!

I think that antenna combo is made more appropriate for much smaller vessel. I would think you will not be happy with the range of VHF signal. Not my boat but my thinking is if it were my boat the antenna would get broken off in that location

thats an AIS/GPS/VHF so no its not for smaller boats.

@@SailorJames As long as Sailor James is happy with it is all the matters.

Wait a second, does it work? That looked like the easiest install ever. I think you editing out all the three day process...and the bird shitting all over it. 😂😂😂 Feels good when all goes right. Fair winds!

The young don't care about safety, since they have neither the experience or the imagination to evaluate the consequences of their actions....or their drilling techniques...

Did You know You should never use drills having had contact to mild steel on stainless without at least grinding the tips well to remove ALL of the area previously contacting mild steel ...?
Helps a LOT with dry cutting through stainless; and might ruin Your work when not done with bloody cutting problems, possible sheering off of drillbits, and so on.
    Cheers 🍻

I was just thinking, next time maybe drill hole on bottom-side of rail so water can t get inside... Just a thought...( Just noticed that idea is pointless with your bracket - SORRY )

Very good trick with the vacuum cleaner, although it took we some time to figure our what's you're actually doing because of all your tattoos.
