What You Need To Know About Folic Acid

  • Folic acid is something that we all need to know about. Many countries have mandatory “fortification” programs and most of us ingest it without too much thought. It has been presented by the World Health Organisation and their associates as a “win-win” for the public due to the purported prevention of neural tube defects such as spina bifida.
This video investigates some of the pivotal papers that were used as the evidence for folic acid supplementation for pregnant women and then entire populations. We examine what the real world data shows and why some of the numbers do not stack up.
Additionally, the folic acid they are putting in these products is not the same as the folate that has been depleted from our food in the first place. What are the implications of constant exposure to synthetic compounds and what can you do to remedy the situation today?
Hopefully you enjoy this video as well as all the other free resources encouraging healthy living at drsambailey.com. The book Terrain Therapy also outlines how to achieve your best health through right thinking and right living. It includes an outline of how our diets have been corrupted and what you can do to put everything back on track.

My daughter suffers terrible migraines when she accidentally eats fortified/enriched foods. I mail her organic unfortified flour from a farm here in Canada. She lives in Mexico. Even unbleached organic flour is fortified here as well. It is all criminal. They do not want us well but sick. The elite want a 30% reduction in world wide population and poisoning us is how they will achieve it. Thanks for this video. Praying people of child bearing age see this and also those with health issues.

Bingo. Ah, but who are the ruling elite? How about all those 200 or so kings and queens that magically disappeared from their respective countries between 1912 and 1945 just before the United Nations was formed and strangely the UN had the same goal of reducing the world's population. Remember Covid? Uh huh.

Bravo!! Dr. Bailey. Superb presentation. This "switcheroo" with folate and folic acid reminds me of what was done in 1967 when all commercially baked good required iodine. Bing.... they changed it out, for bromine....which happens to be attracted to the iodine receptors...blocking absorption of iodine. Oh, those health officials.....gotta keep a close eye on them at all times!

Thanks Dr S…to sum up, you’re saying virtually all folic acid supplements are synthetic and to avoid those. Are there any at all that are sourced from actual food? Sounds like, if so, there’s probably a lot of processing that goes into making it.
Ultimately, you’re right on. Ignorance in farming has wreaked havoc on soils and ruined their ecosystem. Add to that the poison dumped on crops and it’s obvious where a species is headed with that mindset.
But there’s hope. More and more organic farming is happening and awareness is growing. We may see a change in our lifetime 🙏

In Australia the law is just around wheat flour for bread production needing to have folic acid, so gluten free bread doesn't legally require it to be added.
I make my own bread at home and on rare occasion of getting a burger at a restaurant I go for gluten free bread.
I suspect a lot of gluten intolerant people may just be intolerant to the folic acid

I understand that Folic acid should really be Folinic acid and Niacin should really be Nicotinic acid. So they are adding the wrong thing. They use niacinamide which is not Nicotinic acid. So whatever they are adding is possibly antagonistic to Folinic acid and Nicotinic acid.

In US research organic pasture raised eggs were found to have up to 21 times the folic acid of factory farmed eggs (Polyface farm).
That’s an estimate of 25 micrograms vs 525 micrograms. For two eggs, 50 micrograms vs 1,050.
Less assume that’s best case scenario, and instead estimate the comparator at 10 times. For two eggs then that would be 50 micrograms vs 500 micrograms. That’s moving the chickens daily using a chicken tractor-a chicken tractor is a chicken cage someone pulls along the ground over a new section of pasture everyday that was grazed by ruminants some days prior.
“You are what you eat” is an exaggeration, but that does seem like a stark contrast. You’d need twenty factory farmed eggs to have the same folic acid as two of these other eggs. Ask your local Mennonite, Amish or regenerative farmer if they have pasture raised chicken eggs.
Note: the name chicken tractor is somewhat misleading as they typically do not involve what you would consider to be a tractor. It’s just a cage, and they sometimes have a couple of wheels.

As a flour Miller, this is some what accurate. But 99% of flour does not have bleach in it, in nz anyway. Most vitamins are removed by oxygen due to the milling process, so getting local milling and not eating it straight away is thus a waste of time. Minerals in the whole grain are in the bran, which the stomach struggles to digest much of it, so I'm not sure what the benefit of this would be except for the fibre value.

Pretty sure King Arthur Flour is not bleached as shown in the image. Flour and other grains are stripped down to keep them shelf stable and accommodate the modern palette. If you want the best flour, mill the grain yourself with a home mill from whole organic wheat berries. You can even dabble in the ancient wheat varieties. Freshly milled truly whole grain flour is only self stable at room temperature for a week or so.

Would you answer about a good prenatal or if it is necessary with a good diet? Do we have to make sure we get 400-600+ mcg of folate while being pregnant, or is that not necessary and are other factors involved that create neural tube defects like you showed in the video? I have found a prenatal called birthright, which is animal based with liver and other foods, but my concern is not getting enough folate in my diet. They do not measure nutrient amounts. It is difficult to get enough folate from diet alone unless you are being very specific every day. I guess I am just wondering if that target number of a minimum of 400-600 mcg per day is inaccurate because it is assuming the previous studies on folic acid are true?

Ok, correlation is not causation but someone I know started taking folate. I did not know she was taking it but I noticed something was not right. During the same time, I had just found out that folic acid could be bad for you. Someone says that folate is not the same as folic acid but how can we be so sure about that? Are we sure it is folate in the container? Either way, she was happier than usual - one might say that this is great. The problem is that folic acid acts as an antidepressant similar to fluoride. However, her cognitive functions were declining, she did not notice that. At times she acted as if 20 years older or more. I asked her to stop taking it - it was the new fag for methylation, you know? - and slowly but surely her condition improved. Perhaps it was just a coincidence or something else but that was the only new supplement added to the mix. Maybe folate at very small doses is beneficial, I do not know, but ask someone to keep an eye on you if you decide to supplement it with it. Feel free to do your own research, this is just my opinion.

Eggs provide natural folate and many other vitamins and nutrients necessary for a healthy pregnancy. Four should cover a whole days folate requirement, even if you ate nothing else. If four is too many for you, scramble two or three eggs with one or two additional yolks, since the yolk is where the folate is. Liver is another food rich in folate, and various seafoods are another great source.

First of all, folate is not a medication, it's a vitamin. To qualify as a vitamin, a substance must be absolutely necessary for the functioning of the human body, and not created within the human body. All humans need folate. Folic acid, the synthetic form of folate, is as dangerous (or more) to pregnant women as it is to you. No one should be taking it.
But secondly, you're absolutely right that it makes no sense to put a medication of any sort into the food or water supply, because no medication is safe for every single human. Also true for all synthetic forms of all vitamins. They are hot trash and usually do the opposite of what the natural form of the vitamin does.
