I ran this trail recently and while the main obstacles that make the normal backway challenging are superior to the challenge of alternate backway, I felt like alternate backway was more painful just in general. It is a very rough trail, unlike the normal backway. It doesn't really have any obstacles per-se, so it's probably better for a less experienced driver. The views are equally as amazing, that is for sure. I would still recommend this trail for most people, but I think I would just prefer to keep doing the normal route myself, lol
@@Rarity09 yeah you are spot on. It isn’t difficult but scenery is still good and gets you to CK. We took a stock JK through and no problem. Thanks for checking out the video.
Crown King had a lot of snow over the past two weeks. I think they had over a foot up there, which would have made for an interesting, if not nearly impossible, run.
Have you gone the main backway to ck? Would you say this is easier? Trying to play a way up there with some friends in stock Cherokees and don’t think they can make the normal backway.
The last time I went up the "Back Way to Crown King" the SxS's coming down really caused traffic issues. We did this same trip on 3/2 and noticed a lot of SxS's coming down. I like the idea of that route being one way? Thanks for another great video.
@@mehGyver this route is actually longer from a miles perspective as it loops up to the north side of CK near Towers Mountain then you head south into town. It is easier however with no obstacles to speak of so you don’t get backed up. So miles wise longer, time wise a bit shorter but I am basing that on the extra traffic and obstacles on the regular back way.
@@Trail89Adventures Cool. Thanks! I've been doing the popular way since the mid 90s, and it's just not as fun anymore with all of the knuckleheads, plus certain sections are problematic. I have the luxury of wheeling midweek, so I'm looking forward to the alt route. I enjoyed your vid and subbed. Thanks
@@mehGyver mid week runs are the best! The biggest issue we ran into running the alternate back way was that trail became the return route for the SxS traffic that ran the BWCK trail north. But I think we ran it on a Saturday so if you do it midweek you probably won’t see anyone until you hit Senator Hwy.
Ha, Ive been up walker's gultch so alot here looks familiar. Bunch of geocaches. Yup like you said great scernery. Thanks for this one

We just purchased our bronco. We want to do this trail soon!
@@markjsram it is definitely a fun one that isn’t too difficult

I bet it looks beautiful with the snow. Definitely wouldn’t want to roll those shelf roads with snow or ice on them!
great video yet again!!!
@@njbinkers it was a good group run. Had a great time. Pretty stock friendly too.
Nice. Waypoints?

I have not gone the regular back way but this way is easier. We had a stock JK Sahara with us. She scraped a couple times but didn’t have any issues.

From where this splits off the main backway route, how does the drive time compare to the popular route?

Glad you enjoyed the video. Appreciate the sub.
“i think we’ve got 7 more” jeez just ridiculous how many sxs are on the trails
This is the SXS state.
like bedbugs
That's not the true alternative route walker guilt is only a loop. Stay left at street sign! So not true
Actually it is definitely an alternate back way to Crown King. Thanks for watching
