    I think there's a major problem in all video game development right now - releasing games before they're ready. Many of the complaints about video games right now are bugs or incomplete games. This applies to more than just farming games. I see it in the other genres I play.
    I also see a lot of people saying this genre or that genre sucks and it's because, for people who are heavily into one genre or another, that's all they look at, so they see a lot of bad. If someone is only slightly into a genre, they're more likely to only hear about good games from recommendations or videos that point to the good. But if someone is looking for more of a certain type of game, they start diving into the deep end and thus see all the bad out there. There is a lot of bad everywhere!
    It's partly why I've stopped supporting video games on crowdfunding sites and don't buy a game until after I've watched several reviews. I've been burned so many times!
    For example, Fae Farm has a lot of what I want in a cozy farming game - except how fast the day is. I don't find timing or fast gameplay cozy at all. It stresses me out. So I will get back to Fae Farm after the next update because they finally slowed down time. It's all about having the option to make the game experience what you want.
    Wylde Flowers has really spoiled me on what good can be done in this genre for having options. I truly hope more developers pay attention! Since there are a lot of different people who like a lot of different ways to play, they need to start making all those options available. It also makes the games accessible for those who have challenges with certain aspects. Like mini games are not something some people are able to do, so it locks them out of games. But having an alternative allows them to still enjoy the game.
    I say this in the board game world, but making a game accessible will make the company more money because more people will buy it. Plain and simple. It's good business, but a lot of people fail to see that.

    Hey Bubbles, great video! Definitely some bad apples in the mix but overall I love the farming sim genre. It's my favorite because of the open-ended format where the game never has to end. I also love decorating in games and most of them have a ton of decoration options for your house and farm. I would love to win a Fae Farm key because the art style is really cute and unique and it has some nice quality of life features that aren't seen in other farming games at the moment. I wish this changed my mind but I still feel like farming games are on a decline since a majority of the recent entries are just lack luster. Even one of my most hopeful games Coral Island eventually turned out to be kind of a let down when it finally came out of early access. Sure the undersea clean up was an interesting part of the game but the farming portion was just disappointing, lot of crops pretty much have no use since most of the recipes to make foods just asks for generic categories like "vegetables" and cooking doesn't help you out much at all. The biggest issue with coral island too is that your character isn't really that connected to the town and its ppl, there are always these short cutscenes with interactions that don't involve you and you're a third person intruding on ppls moments. I could go on and on about farming games but the only hope I have left for some new life in farming games is SunnySide and if that fails too idk how the future of farming games is going to be.

    I agree SO MUCH that devs need to quit promising their games for switch. Understand the limitations of the hardware and make the game you want to make, not the version of your game that will work on the Switch. About a week ago I saw a post where someone was asking when Pathea would make Sandrock available to play on her iPad, because it's all she has for a device. The entitlement people have to just expect any game work on whatever potato machine they have is astounding.

    • @MissBubbles
      @MissBubbles  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's okay to ask for ports and when you are respectful about it, it's not entitlement. However, devs promosing ports they know they cannot optimize for and still charging the same price (i.e. Sandrock price on Switch vs. Switch is the same I believe) is not okay

    First off, I love that you're saying what everyone else is thinking when people are mindlessly defending their favorite games' bad performances even though objectively they are lacking in terms of performance or contain many bugs etc. Somebody needed to say it!
    Tbh before I watched the video I thought 'No way, Miss Bubbles is now attacking the farming games too like other content creators recently :( ?' I'm happy I clicked on it anyway because my initial thought was proven wrong and I'm so thankful that you're basically taking the whole claim that 'farming games suck' and prove it wrong 😊 There are so many great games to play nowadays and even though while there are definitely some black sheeps the genre is expanding and full of fun games. I honesty have high hopes for the future of this genre as our standards and the competition within the genre are rising! Personally I think that 2024 will be a great year for farming games. Maybe even better than 2023.

    I actually started developing ArtStory bc I like farming games (and couple other genres I mixmatched) and the genre has stagnated for a long time. But as I get deeper into development I realize that 1 some features are a bit too expensive budget wise (I shelf them for future updates once I finished the game), and 2 there are a lot of farming gems just like you mentioned in your video.
    This gave me a lot of insight, and I do hope for a better future for the genre. Farmsims are a good comfort role playing games too c:

    as far as most of them being alike, it's quite ridiculous that people aren't looking to be unique as a game company anymore. I feel like if you set your games apart from the rest, you're bound to get more sales.

  • @sibauchi
    @sibauchi 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I loved Wylde Flowers and Sun Haven! The most recent farming game I've enjoyed was Immortal Life, a Xianxia farming game. I especially liked its cooking minigame despite not usually liking cooking games with speed limits, because I can still get Normal-quality dishes even if I fail to finish them within the time limit and the game allows me to cook and acquire dishes that I don't have the recipes yet once I build the community kitchen.
    What personally irks me is when devs just throw in farming elements just because it's popular without understanding why it's appealing or genuinely considering how to weave it in to the rest of the game. Honestly I even felt a bit insulted by how Harvestella (mis)handled farming as well as the bad pacing that I couldn't proceed past 9 hours despite hearing that the story is really good. I do think farming games have a lot of potential; the very act of growing and harvesting crops is fundamentally rewarding, and the sense of being rewarded is very important in video games. I just hope more devs add farming elements/make farming games with some unique appeal of their own, even if it is slight. I haven't had the chance to play Fae Farm yet, but it looks so pretty and the fairy element does seem unique!

    Farming Games are Repetitive but I don't mind that aspect of them because once I learn them I can just Zone out and Play.
    also Farming Games give Me something I really like as a Player. That is I like starting out with Nothing and clawing my way up to Fortune and Luxury in Settings where I can set a bunch of little Goals for myself that feed into that Goal.
    I think as good as the switch is it's getting older now and the Tech in it was older even when it was New so it's not too surprising that Ports don't run that well on it.

    I'd like to give Fae Farm a try, I was really disappointed to discover that they took down the demo with the full release. I get that we can return games if we haven't played them for very long on Steam, but that really doesn't appeal to me in the same way a demo does. I may just be getting old though

    Not sure if my comment will help anyone, but I just thought to share a slight opinion. I'm sucker for a good farming game.
    I love the Rune Factory series over Story of Seasons. I think stardew valley is great too. I've been thinking of trying harvestella. Since I'm getting into Square Enix games. Rune Factory 4 was the first farming game I ever got into, which brought me to like farming games. To this day, RF4 is still my top fav farming game.
    But I do agree, I disliked a handful of the newest and remakes of Story of Seasons and Harvest Moon. I really felt dissappointed in some of the games I tried. (Usually, I go to the library to borrow a game, before buying it. Which is what I suggest, if your library let's you check out games. Or any place you can rent one. Maybe even a demo is good.) But I thought Rune Factory was fine. I feel like XSeed, Natsume, and Marvelous could do better. I mean, any game developers in general has potential, when they try and put effort into their games.
    Personally, I don't own many Harvest Moon or really any Story of Seasons games (I only have some for the 3ds.) These reasons you listed in this video, are why I choose not to. I definitely agree with you though, on what you have to say. Thank you for making this video!

    While I agree, creating a game take time a lot, ain't easy job I guess and im far from having the knowledge to judge. My problem is no one pay something not finished or brocken. The gaming industry is really the only side we're ok to buy stuff unfinished. (huh, why, how?) While I understant the need of money to create it. (actually I don't) I really have problems with kickstarter or games being in early access for 2-4 years (or more..) it is really taking customer for dumb and a fucking money cow... We almost all have to get up, work for a month before guetting payed, working mainly 8 hours a day, many doesn't have week-ends. Yet there you can get payed before finishing your work or not finishing your work doing it poorly etc you just creat a kickstarter and work on it when you can or want. Making good pictures so people want the game. Naha, I might be old school or maybe i dont understand this industry but I truly think they really not taking customers seriously and don't do their job like for real. You wanna creat a game? creat it, show me your work before guetting money, oh you're lacking of? Then stand up go work get money, like every fucking soul in this world. Finally creat your game, finish it, get all the money and credit back, well diserves not the other way.

      I agree with many points you made! I don't know the ins and outs of how games are made, but started watching more about game dev to learn the process. I'm okay with Early Access but for it to actually be used as intended "get feedback for a year, two at MOST" and for a game that is already playable and in a good state. Sadly, we get games that are in beta and we pay to test it these days in the name of Early Access and the game ends up taking 5-6 years or worst, abandoned.
      There are definitely very successful EA games like Dinkum, Travelers Rest, My Time at Sandrock, Dave the Diver (more cozy than farming), etc. so it can be done, but the devs have to be passionate and transparent

    The only real problem I have with farming games actually comes from me: I really like them but I'm also so used to game where you either have a more involved story (like RPGs) or games where you get much faster rewards and almost instant gratification. Farming in games can be tedious but by far my most hated gaming trend is cooking! I hate cooking in real life yet it seems nearly ALL devs have copied each other adding cooking. Maybe it's a fairly easy thing to add but is just really padding. Fishing too! Why this incessant need to fish in every game?! Ha, rant over. Back to Unicorn Overlord via FF Rebirth.
