The most common cause of outside of the foot pain is your foot flattening out to the side against your shoe. This usually happens due to the gradual progression of tightness in your back, hamstrings, calf and ankles. Get that stretch out!

Mchigan Foot Doctors, There are a few ideas for plantar foot
      Try to rest your feet
      Consider Wearing supportive footwear
      Try ice on your heel
Take ibuprofen or another nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug to reduce pain and inflammation
      try night splints
      Do stretching and strengthening exercises.
(I learned these and the reasons they work from Rohon foot care site )

Hi doc. No pain here but numbness in outside 3 toes and along side of left foot starting at styroid process and running to toes. If i massage right on top of styroid it feels (as in my fingers can discern a stringy thing) like there is either a nerve or some other structure which is inflamed under there (because can hardly feel it on the other foot), and doing so also give me electric shooting sensation that goes from styroid to little outside toe (also does not happen on other foot). The massaging of nerve (or whatever it is) as well as rest of foot does seem to relieve symptoms a bit, but then it comes back again, i suppose after i've been using feet. I do have muscle tension problems in general, and my shoes currently have basically no support at all. I have also been getting some cramping under the foot when i wake up recently. I do not want to go to any doctors because i'm being extremely conservative with covid, and i'm also broke :(. Since this video and a few of your other ones are mainly about pain and not really numbness, just wondering if you could give me some advice, or point me to some other online resource or video. Thanks a bunch, and thanks for your videos.

Sir, Is styloid process pain only related to excessive pronation? if there is excessive supination, would that aggravate the tension and pain in the 2nd styloid process (brevis attachment).

This was really helpful. The bottom of my foot on the outside really hurt after I tried to start a walk/run regiment. I limped to day after and it still hurts. I at least know now that was Yoko much too fast with weight gain. I also know I wore the wrong shoes and that I should ice it. Thanks for being so informative and direct.

I have pain where the 5th metatarsal is located (especially when pressing or pressure even from my bed/couch pushes on it) but the doctor is 100% it isn't a break or fracture of any kind? I hurt it doing a deep stretch to the side. Any idea what else it could be? I can't find anything about this.

@@MichaelMichael-ex2df Had foot x-ray which showed nothing, saw a kinesiologist who worked on the painful area and it was so painful. Area she worked on left me with a discoloured area which looked like bruise, Not blaming her cos shes helped with so much other stuff in the past. It took ages to go. Did feel a little easier as time went on. I tried the ice method and then wore my velcro fastening wider fit summer shoes and as time went on felt better each day. Now with colder weather i went back to wearing slippers and the pain is starting up again, very strange and i find wearing my boots is painful too. Left foot fine but right foot every foot wear feels tight and the pain starts up again after a few minutes of walking. So think finding some wider fitting boots slippers and shoes is def needed hear. I'm waking up with burning in both feet in the mornings too. could this be arthritis I'm wondering now. Will go back to the ice treatment tomorrow again. I've even bought insoles which support the feet which does help. Read that castor oil wraps can work as well, ill try anything. Having x-ray next week on hips as its suspected I have osteoarthritis .Plus right knee very painful, this has all developed since foot problem, maybe I've been walking differently ?

I recently transitioned to crocs because I began to get pain on the side of my foot where my fifth toe is, and it won’t go away (mostly because I don’t particularly have time to rest), and every day it hurts till I start getting used to walking, then the pain subsides. I’m going to go to the doctor soon about it, but I surely will be using your tips!

All good info. A lot of which I've been doing. I only wish you had given some names of "straight last (?)" shoes. If I google some, brands come up but have nothing mentions "straight last" in of the shoe descriptions. Also, the name of the orthotic would be helpful. I've had Styloid pain for over two years. Been through a couple of rounds of PT, I wear good shoes (NB or Brooks), I wear wides even though my foot isn't wide for neuromas. Seems to get a little better for a while then one wrong move and I'm back to icing. Expensive orthotics started giving me serious pain in my good foot even after having them adjusted so not keen to continue with those. Thank you.

#Eliza C: New Balance 928v3, 940, 847 are straight last shoes (built on SL-2 last). The New Balance 990v5 are also straight last shoes (SL-1 last). SL-2 last shoes are more narrow in the heel, have a higher instep and deeper toe box. You'll have to try them on to see what is most comfortable for your foot. Hope this helps.

Hey you or he just showed or rather looked and described the foot from an outside ankle, the outside of the foot.
Now I have pain on the inside, so to say the correlate part to the abductor on the inside but rather down under my feet than on the side. So on the bottom of my feet, pretty much in the middle, and on the inside of the foot.
Can anybody perhaps tell me how that is called so I can look for specific treatment for that part.
It got hurt while skateboarding I think and it does not even hurt much, just a little, and only towards the evening.

I haven't sprinted in months and did some 40's in the street. Felt fine. Next morning could barely put weight on the styloid area. After a few days the pain went away but if I do any running or jumping it kills me the next morning. I've laid off for weeks but flairs up bad if I try and do anything on it. Gonna give it a 2 month break. Hate it. Weather is perfect for hoops right now and I'm out.
    Being 40 is horrible

Same thing except from basketball. Pain goes away after a few days of doing nothing and when I try to do something physical or walk up stairs again , the pain comes back for a few days and sometimes the pain is worse.

Hi Doctor..I have been sufferring from foot pain for the last 4 months specifically on my right foot. It started as suspected gout since my big toes got swollen and painful initially last June. So I was given colchicine and later on had a febuxostat as my maintenance for uric acid. I was also given a diclofenac and eterocoxib for pain. Since then my pain went on and off and my foot never had been normal for the last 4 months. My big toe is good now but what I notice is that the top lateral part of my foot specifically on the cuboid bone I can feel a lump or sort of a spur that is really painful.. And once it gets painful the whole top of my right foot is swelling..but once I take a pain reliever it looks normal... What might this be? I got an xray yesterday but the results will be up in two days..my uric acid and creatinine is normal as per checking last month. Hope to hear from you. Thanks. 😊

So not specific to you, symptoms like these in our patients are likely midfoot arthritis. These patients are usually putting more pressure on that foot due to ankle and ankle joint/Achilles contracture. The best and easiest results are found with really good supportive shoes, orthotic support and working on flexibility. But it is strongly recommended that you get seen in person if you do have an issue!

I am about 6'1" and 155, so I don't think weight loss is an option. My left styloid process has gotten larger and more bulging and painful over the years. I have always been active. My styloid process is 12 cm from the tip of my little toe, and 11 cm from the back of my heel. I have a long foot. Was there supposed to be an arch there that has collapsed, causing it to hit the ground? That is what it seems like. I have an arch from my styloid process to the ball of my foot, and from the styloid process back to the heel, with the styloid process at the lowest point. It feels bruised, and sometimes I get piercing pain in it when I sit down. Back to the podiatrist once things blow over.

I mainly wear an arch support for my right foot, which had a torn posterior tibial tendon, and after many years a tendon transfer. So I am now doing what the foot orthotocists say not to do. I am not wearing any support on my left foot, which has taken the pressure off my styloid process of my fifth metatarsal of my left foot. I continue to wear the arch support on my right foot. I think maybe the arch support was too high on my left foot. I realized that things were much better on my left foot when I walked barefoot.

    • @SkiDooSummit670
      @SkiDooSummit670 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@MK-ih6wp I had been wearing quite high arch supports for years due to a torn posterior tibial tendon and collapsed arch on my right foot. I had surgery several years ago that mostly fixed this, but I did not lower the support on the advice of my surgeon. Because of styloid process pain, I gradually went down on both arches to where it naturally wants to be, and the styloid process pain went away. I question the advice I had gotten from physicians and orthoticists to have equal arch support on both feet. My feet are completely different. Having a high arch support on the left foot was definitely the cause of my pain in the left foot. I still occasionally, when doing something physically exerting, use arch support on the right foot, but use standard insoles always on the left.
