So many games! and such a cute piplup in the background. You inspired me to start collecting physical games and now I have a pretty sizeable 3DS, switch, and PS4/PS5 collection. Gotta start somewhere. There’s value in being able to lend people games, preserve gaming history, and even leave something for the future.
Metal Gear Solid 4 is probably my favorite ps3 exclusive. It's definitely worth picking up and is a must have for anyone's ps3 collection. Also this game is never gonna see the light of day on another platform because of how much it's design revolves around the ps3's unique hardware. It's also included in the Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection which is what I got. It includes Mgs4, mgs hd collection and a download code for mgs1 and mgs vr missions. I'd get that if you can. You'll get almost every game from the best game series ever made 😃
I have both the Legacy Collection and also a separate copy of Guns of the Patriots. Please understand that my PS3 collection has almost 200 games and it's obviously slow work going through that, especially since I spend a truckload of time doing research and recording footage.
I remember Folklore! I remember when the advertisements first came out I was super impressed with how it looked like. Considering it was an RPG that wasn't from Square Enix it held alot of promise. Collecting games used to be looked down on as a hobby that would never gain value but nowadays, its surprising the value of some games, especially some esoteric ones. Good video! Glad to see Folklore and Cross Edge! I'd love to see you try an MMO like Final Fantasy XIV and hear your input.

Lol, I greatly enjoyed the part about Bleach, I love the anime and manga and it was quite interesting to hear someone talk about the game while not knowing anyone. I personally played the PSP Bleach games, they were pretty cool but I am not a fighting game aficionado.
I'm glad to see part 2 and the fact you liked Drakengard 3 is awesome. I love the franchise and the spin-off series is even considered better by many. The spin-off games are called Neir Replicant & Nier Automata on PS4 and I think you would love them both 👍.
I have a real fondness for those old-style games like Zill O'll - maybe bc I never had the chance to play them back when they came out!? So I even happily put up with having to trudge all the way out of the dungeon again (no "escape dungeon" potion or skill!).
Folklore was such a unique and bizarre game. I remember playing this and being a bit thrown off by the mix of gameplay mechanics. Sadly I think it got buried because it was a weird new IP that came out near the end of the PS3's life cycle when everyone was waiting for the shiny new PS4.

I have also collected trinity universe, cross edge, as well as the chaos wars on ps2. really missed the genre of crossover games from multiple game makers!
Yep, PS3 games have been creeping up again. I started researching for this video back in September, and by the time I did the final edit, I had to adjust quite a few prices upwards. I recently bought Chaos Wars. These are games that'll get harder and harder to find in future!

Ps3, what I heard is one of the most unsuccessful and successful consoles to ever exist. Whatever it is, the games it offers was a classic. I always remember playing those in the console shops (basically rent time by using a playstation for a limited time) because I can’t own one back then, so many memories for a small amount of time
I would very much like to see videos of you playing a game for the first time in its entirety. You know, not cutting out the boring stuff you think no one wants to see. I for once would like to see you immerse yourself into a game and not just talking about it. I do, admittedly, want you to talk yourself through it, for my personal entertainment, but seeing and hearing what choices you would pick is why I would come along for the ride. Mass Effect, Skyrim, Nier Automata, Breath of the Wild would be good choices for such a project. Well, if you are interested in those that is. Just wanted to let you know that there are people out there who do enjoy those kind of things, too,but really all is fine as long as you enjoy yourself :)
It really doesn't make any sense for me to do complete Let's Playthroughs. Whenever I tried it, they tanked and had a negative impact on my channel. In the end, my principle is to do what I like to do and think I do best. There are literally hundreds of thousands of playthroughs of the games you mention on TH-cam. I don't think I need to add to that mountain.

I tried playing Drakengard 1 and it's pretty awkward (controls etc.) by today's standards. You certainly need a lot of patience and it probably helps if you're experienced with PS2 games. I have both games but I honestly only rarely get the time to power up my PS2 and dig into my games! I think TVTropes actually puts it very well in their entry on Drakengard being: "a combination of a multilayered, surreal plot and excellent atmosphere, with rather weak, repetitive gameplay." tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/VideoGame/Drakengard Yep, I found the gameplay hard to stomach. The second game is supposedly better. Drakengard 3 is chronologically a prequel to the other games, so it's fine to play it as is. I might opt for the lazy route and just watch a playthrough of the older Drakengards, or read a synopsis, just to have that fuller background appreciation. 😎

I know it can be hard to find time to give all the time we want to gaming. I will do the same with Drakengard and see if I can play the 3rd. I love the interaction between the main characters.
I love Folklore, really a beautiful game of Games Republic studio. Another beautiful game made by them is Majin And The Forsaken Kingdom (Disc Only). I wish I could play Drakengard 3 too, looks very fun! xDDD
Hello there. I’m really enjoying this series and your love of dragons. I was curious what your opinion of panzer dragoon is as a series? My personal favorite is Orta, i’ve beaten the game twice, and it’s extremely grueling, but ultimately rewarding and beautiful… Love the soundtrack. And the gameplay.
I haven't really played a Panzer Dragoon game. Several people have recommended Orta to me! I just bought the PD remaster on Switch in the sale yesterday. I'm not terribly good at these types of games that require precision controls etc. - but I certainly will give it a go.

I should point out even though I’m an Xbox guy and the following is expected - I originally had that remake on the switch and then bought it when it was available on sale on the Xbox series and I could not believe how much better it looked and played on the Xbox…
Yea, I'm not surprised to hear that! Getting it that cheap on Switch is a convenient way to try it. What I often do, if I like a game, I then get it on PlayStation or Xbox for the sake of better graphics and also sometimes performance as well.
My older brother got Time and Eternity years ago. That's another PS3 exclusive. Not everyone likes Time and Eternity, but at least the game looks great (like an interactive anime) and the music is good.
Loved collecting for PS3 i think it had a lot of interesting and unique games (although nowhere near of what the PS2 had) but admittedly its first years were a bit underwhelming especially for us fans of Japanese games. The only games that i'm still missing in order to call my PS3 collection "complete" (in terms of games that i want to have in my collection) are the Tales of Xilia games (waiting for a remaster),Way of the Samurai 3 and Ar Nosurge. Of course i would have also loved to have a physical copy of Rain but that is impossible now (thankfully i have the digital version).

Played Drakengard 3 on an emulator because I didn't know about it back then even though I had PS3 , I have mixed feelings for this game , its not that bad since I liked the concept of the game ( They could have done it more neat and better). A remake of the game might do it justice.
I have to strongly disagree. Disc rot is not a thing. Blu-ray discs are made of polycarbonates. Only time will tell. Personally, I don't think it does. Maybe it'll take longer than the 20-30 years that CDs and DVDs typically last? I do hope you're right though.
@@PowerSynopsis I've got audio CD's from early 90's and Dvd's from early 2000. Without any sign of disc rot on them. I've also seen DVD's in a very deplorable state but those had mostly mold. It just depends on how you conserve them. Remember there's global problem with plastics that take too long to degrade? Polymer degradation is the reduction in the physical properties of a polymer, such as strength, caused by changes in its chemical composition. Polymers and particularly plastics are subject to degradation at all stages of their product life cycle, including during their initial processing, use, disposal into the environment and recycling. It's worth it if you can find a secondhand PS3 in good condition. Else you'd have to rely, I guess, on the Playstation Plus prime tier subscription to access some of them.
I miss this era. Towards the end of this generation and the start of the next is where gaming started to decline in quality and quantity. Not saying very game was bad, but a lot of games felt cookie cutter and stale

Ah, no, Folklore actually came out at the *beginning* of the PS3 life cycle - in 2007. That explains why it doesn't have trophy support.

I actually really enjoyed Lair. It was better after the update that allowed us to play with an analog stick instead of just after touch.

Having a back-up is definitely a good idea. Disk rot is real and PS3 games aren't getting any younger.
I have to strongly disagree. Disc rot is not a thing. Blu-ray discs are made of polycarbonates. A quick search about their properties yields the following results:
▪The Blu-ray polycarbonate disc is 120 millimetres (4.7 in) in diameter and 1.2 millimetres (0.047 in) thick, the same size as DVDs and CDs.
▪Polycarbonates (PC) are a group of thermoplastic polymers containing carbonate groups in their chemical structures. Polycarbonates used in engineering are strong, tough materials, and some grades are optically transparent. They are easily worked, molded, and thermoformed. Because of these properties, polycarbonates find many applications.
▪Polycarbonate is a durable material. Although it has high impact-resistance, it has low scratch-resistance. Therefore, a hard coating is applied to polycarbonate eyewear lenses and polycarbonate exterior automotive components. The characteristics of polycarbonate compare to those of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA, acrylic), but polycarbonate is stronger and will hold up longer to extreme temperature.
▪The second largest consumer of polycarbonates is the construction industry, e.g. for domelights, flat or curved glazing, roofing sheets and sound walls. Polycarbonates are used to create materials used in buildings that must be durable but light.

@@zensoredparagonbytes3985 That's good info on the make-up of Blu-ray discs. Does that make them less susceptible to disc rot? Perhaps. Does it make them invulnerable to disc rot? Only time will tell. Personally, I don't think it does. Maybe it'll take longer than the 20-30 years that CDs and DVDs typically last? I do hope you're right though.
@@PowerSynopsis I've got audio CD's from early 90's and Dvd's from early 2000. Without any sign of disc rot on them. I've also seen DVD's in a very deplorable state but those had mostly mold. It just depends on how you conserve them. Remember there's global problem with plastics that take too long to degrade?

Degradation in the environment
Most plastics do not biodegrade readily, however, they do still degrade in the environment because of the effects of UV-light, oxygen, water and pollutants. This combination is often generalised as polymer weathering. Chain breaking by weathering causes increasing embrittlement of plastic items, which eventually causes them to break apart. Fragmentation then continues until eventually microplastics are formed. As the particle sizes get smaller, so their combined surface area increases. This facilitates the leaching of additives out of plastic and into the environment. Many controversies associated with plastics actually relate to these additives.
As you can read. There's no disc rot. Over time they become more brittle and can break easily, not rot away. Have a nice one🙄
@@zensoredparagonbytes3985 ok? There is disc rot. Nothing lasts forever. Eventually some component of the many that compose a disc with data written to it will begin to break down and it will no longer play.

It's worth it if you can find a secondhand PS3 in good condition. Else you'd have to rely, I guess, on the Playstation Plus prime tier subscription to access some of them.

I miss this era. Towards the end of this generation and the start of the next is where gaming started to decline in quality and quantity. Not saying very game was bad, but a lot of games felt cookie cutter and stale
