Jokes on you guys, my Middle School years just so happened to start the same year the Nintendo Switch came out and they were actually excited, so everyone in my turf actually gave a sh$t^^
I love how almost every episode has one of the early jokes make an unforeseen comeback at the end, it's probably one of my favorite aspects of Scott's comedic style.
as a DVD collector, i miss finding movies i really want at the thrift store. i have so many god damn movies so i rarely find something i actually want. i used to leave the thrift store with bundles of DVDs in my hands but now i’m lucky if i leave with one. but i’m happy that i have all of them because it’s so fun to make my friends choose out of my collection when they come over.
I collected video games throughout high school and sold everything when I went to college. I sold in lots by system - for example, my SNES collection went to a fellow collector. I had given some good stuff to scalpers which made me feel bad. But there was one guy who came to me after work in a business suit trying to relive childhood memories with my NES collection. I cut the price and threw in some random stuff I had (little Nintendo collectibles i found throughout the years). He told me his wife was gonna be so pissed, but the smile on his face showed how much he really cared about these gems. That one dude made my entire experience as a collector worth it.
As someone who wants to get into game collecting, the most satisfying part of game collecting is filling the final spot in a shelf (plus points if it fits perfectly)
Ngl one of my dreams in life is to build up my own collection. Something about having all those games and consoles together in one room just seems so cool. Yet I feel by the time I’m old enough to actually be able to do this, all the old gen games and items that I want will be either to expensive or just not work.
if you have 30 bucks get a cheap aftermarket NES and the Mario and duck hunt cartridge because there just might be more Mario and duck hunt carts than humans so it will be dirt cheap. If you didn’t know I am a collector.
Year 1: Collect because you have nostalgia for old games. Year 10: Sell your collection and start over cause you have nostalgia for old collecting habits.
"You gotta know people to get the good games" That's true. My Dad worked at a thrift store and saw someone donate some SNES games. The manager wanted to throw them away, but my dad convinced them to keep the games. The next day, I went into the store and bought Mega Man X3 for $1
At 4:03 that’s us! At least before the new ownership and name change, but I worked there for during that time. To think I might’ve sold you games. Swing by one day would love to have you, so much has changed since then and I’d be happy if you took my copies of Wii Fit and Wii Play from me haha
Scott: Game collecting is for preserving! Also Scott: *completely ruins a game with peanut butter, and has jokes about destroying consoles and controllers*
When people ask me how to save money when collecting, I always point out the fact that alot of my retro collection was from my dad. A game collection wouldn't be a game collection without 3 copies of Pacman on Atari 2600.
This is accurate. While I didn't have a lot of luck with my family, since I'm pretty much the only remotely tech-literate one, you can ask around to family and family friends about whether or not they have any old games, game systems, or whatever else cluttering up their storage. A lot of the time, they'll be happy to have someone get rid of it for them. While I didn't have a ton of luck, my uncle had a huge CRT in his garage that he didn't use anymore, this being after people finished throwing them out and their prices started to rise while availability dropped, and he let me have it for free. I already had (and still have) one of those small CRTs with a built in VCR, mono sound, and the composite sockets on the front, but the bigger one is better for multiplayer games, particularly split-screen ones. Most non-collectors just see this stuff as junk, so offering to take it off their hands, drop them a few bucks, or trade for something simple like lunch or some drinks, can often be enough for both you and them to walk away from the exchange happy.
@@Sin_Alder I always see people throwing away CRT TVs. Quite often, the back is broken by copper recyclers. I have seen a few 40 or 50 inch projection TVs. I have a couple of small TVs, 1 large TV. Of course, I have also seen many large LCD TVs being thrown out, probably bc they are broken.
Well video games got their start way later than video games, when preserving digital things was a lot more widespread due to a little thing called THE INTERNET.
@@RaymondCampesino nah bro its literally estimated that over 75% of movies ever made are lost or incomplete, some with only a few frames or minutes surviving. Film preservation wasnt taken seriously until maybe the 60s
The skill isn't the collection. It's your overall knowledge that is your skill. Believe me, you know more about games then most retro video game store owners, and that makes what you know thanks to your collection truly valuable
I purchased a copy of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, and a copy of Super Mario Sunshine for a dollar each at a garage sale. Easily the best deal I’ve ever gotten... ever.
not FryToastFrill Actually, peanut butter can sometimes be used to fix scratches in disks. I've done it before on some super scratched up CD's and it made a HUGE difference.
Here’s a tip: Go to weird sales, not stuff like garage sales or estate sales. I bought all the sonic genesis games for like a dollar, and a stereo setup that sounds great for $7.25 at a church sale run by a bunch of old ladies
I've found a lot of great deals at churches and other non-profits. One time I found a gameboy advance for $1 at a church yard sale. That was a few years ago when they were worth a little more than what they are today.
Years ago I used to live in a small village and every Sunday the town hall would put on a community-run cafe. The church next door had a sale going on one time, I found Pokemon Blue, R-Type DX and Chase HQ for £2.50. While these are pretty modest finds I still find it crazy that some church in the middle of nowhere had anything like that.
Also Scott is such a great guy. He understands how everyone has a different opinion or experience with gaming and takes that into account and doesnt gatekeep and gives advice that ensures that even if you don’t have a lot of money you will still have fun with collecting :).
Ya, game collecting is only expensive if you going after the huge titles that everyone wants. I sold off my gamecube & gameboy advance collection to buy newer games for my Xbox one X that are dirt cheap + picked up some games for my 3ds & switch. I never had a playstation or xbox so I have plenty of games to explore if I ever want to dive down that rabbit hole.
5:56 Scott is a man of commitment, puting so much effort into a joke that lasts a second, he has done this time and time again, and I applaud him for it. 👏👏
Oh my god. I died. True collectors need to have had a kid roughly between 1998 and 2010 to get in on the LeapFrog gaming action. I guess now everyone just gives their kids a phablet and Angry Birds and has done with it. Sad times for collectors.
Let's see... - Leapster - Cars School House Rock Cosmic Math Word Chasers Mr. Pencil's Learn To Draw & Write (This is one of my favorites) Creature Create Animal Genius The Backyardians - Leapster L-MAX - Spongebob Squarepants Saves the Day (I never actually watched that much of Spongebob) Dora The Explorer Wildlife Rescue (I think my sister actually owned my L-Max before me, for anyone asking why I have this) - LeapPad Explorer - Learn To Read Collection: Adventure Stories Lean To Read Collection: Fairy Tales Jake And The Neverland Pirates Whew. Thanks for reading all of this. I hope I inspired you to collect the most important collector's items out there.
Idk exactly why but that last bit around 21:00 really touches me every time I see it, especially with the mario galaxy music in the background. "Collecting was and is such a fun time, that I wouldn't mind doing it all over again."
Dude I am exactly the same way when he talks about he would never sell his original copy of Mario Galaxy when ever I watch it, it nearly brings a year to my eye cause I understand were he is coming from it would like me selling my copy of Donkey Kong Country Returns which was the game my mom and I played together
19:04 its actually so cute that scott thinks people who store their games like that would actually pop their games back into place rather than just putting the case on top of the pile
i was born in 1998, but my first console ever was a Super Nintendo. My dad came home from a yard sale, having picked up a SNES and 2 controllers, and a box of games, for like 70 bucks (this was in 2006 probably) and i probably played all day every day for months, just pouring over every game in the box. Then i got more. Then i got..... more. Man, i love games.
really? this is the comment you say copied? i get it to say it when people steal most popular jokes but still noone owns comments. This is just normal comment and you act like prick.
Ok so my best collecting moment was when I went over to my great grandmother’s house and in her garage I found an N64 with super smash bros and 2 controllers. My great aunt gave it to me for free which was awesome!!! I will never forget when I first laid eyes on it and it blew my mind.
My best collecting moment so far was when a friend gave me his old 360 that wasn't reading discs and told me I could keep it if I could fix it. It turned out to be an easy fix and the 360 is one of my favorite systems to collect for now.
Hey, my parents found and gave me their old SNES that was still complete-in-box. Had all the controllers, cords, everything. Probably my best retro find to date.
I know this isn’t great but keep in mind this was after it was discontinued, my friend gave me his 2ds with Pokémon y, Pokémon ultra moon, and new super Mario brothers 2 for only 30$.
5:58 I took the liberty of calculating Scott's height using this still image. Based on the average thickness of a Wii U game case, Scott is roughly 5' 7", or 1.7 m. ...I don't know why this needed to be known, but I guess you guys know it now.
I collect and buy a ton of comics and all of this translates perfectly to that. The thing of "aren't you a little young" or "wow thats old, how do you know about that" comes up so often. Sick video, Scott.
There's a retro game/card store in San Diego where the shelves are caked with dust, the games are sun faded, the glass cabinets are just packed to the brim with items, the owner was hanging around in his pajamas (I kid you not), the prices were absurd, and there was a good variety of games if you actually wanted to get anything that I cant imagine being of good quality.
Scott, before this episode (the first one I ever saw, I've since seen almost everything on this channel) I was one of the people who kept games in a binder and it always bothered my girlfriend. She thanks you, I have changed my ways and we now display our games as good as we can in our limited space. I've enjoyed the experience so thank you.

This is the video that, a few years ago, I watched it for the first time and was like "wait, I can collect games? That's OK for me to do?" My current collection is mostly switch games, but I have a 3DS, a GBA SP, an N64, and a PS2 now as well. I love my collection. Thank you, Scott.
I used to collect games when I was between the ages of 8 to 12, I had a PS2, Gameboy, DS, PSP and Wii but my interest in retro Nintendo, N64 and GameCube came about through browsing TH-cam in 2007ish. I built an impressive collection tbh and I still have most of it in a box somewhere but I sold a Pokémon N64 console which I regret still to this day. I really want to get back into collecting retro games, there’s just something magical about playing Mario Sunshine or Smash Bros Melee with an OG purple GameCube controller.
I JUST started playing games and building a collection (I have 7 now) and I had just been buying the cheapest options for the games I want, which meant just the discs with no cover art (or even case sometimes). This made me realize I should be getting cases for these with the cover art. I will do this from now on!
Hearing Scott talk about "seeing an SNES game on sale for the first time" in a retro game store and talking about how strange and weird it was.... I'm turning 34 this year and the SNES was the first console my family owned... getting that box set of SNES + Super Mario World with 2 controllers for Christmas... :O I guess sometimes you forget that time moves on, and that the things that were the height of technology at one time are now considered retro, classic, or just plain outdated.
I’d love a SNES, but the oldest system i’ve seen in person is a gamecube except a gameboy colour in someones garbage. My point is that times really do move on, and the past can be sadly forgotten.
32 and although our first "family" console was an NES, the SNES was the first console that felt like it was mine. One day my older brother showed up out of the blue and was like "Hey someone gave this to me but I don't really use it, do you want it?" and it was an SNES bundled with a copy of LttP. Talk about fortuitous.
I grew up with the 3ds, and I can’t believe we still don’t have Kirby robobot deluxe, I got mario maker and sega 3D classics, a month or so later I got woolly world, then a few months later I found a random Kirby robobot game at a jeromes type store, it was just sitting on a shelf with a tag on it, it was only 20$ which was cheap considering it was a newer game around that time, my parents let me buy it, and I played the hell out of it. I remember taking it to a habit, and playing metanightmare, it is still, to this day, the only game I’ve ever 100% and I get that nostalgic feeling whenever it’s brought up, basically, if you have a 3ds, buy Kirby robobot, it’s a great time.
I find kind of weird to get nostalgic over it, considering it’s only been around 6 years since I got the game, but hey, at some point the 3ds will be like the game boy in 20 years
I have over 2000 games in my Steam library. I have a bit of a bundle and sale problem xD but, I bought Humble Monthly when it first came out several years ago, and that actually saves me a lot of money because I just tell myself, "it'll eventually be on Humble"
As a steam game collector, the ending really hit me in the feels I remember when I only had like 7 games that I racked up 100s of hours on, and now with 100s just sitting there, undownloaded, with 0 hours, sometimes I feel hollow just looking at it
I feel you man, i had so many hours on gmod csgo, and i small handful of other titles, now i look at hollow knight and tell my, wtf how have i not played this game, its been in my library for 2 years. Quite sad. So many games, so little I play.
@@zeropower1688 It really does suck, but I feel like it's less a case of having too many games to play and not enough time in the day so we just go with what we know
Usually I have a lot of criticisms of collecting to share, but it sounds like you are doing it right. Very healthy perspective. Just buy the ones you want to play, don't bother trying to pad out the collection, and make sure the collections is geared towards what is satisfying to you and not what other collectors would praise.
If you think that's bad you should see my one friend's games. His cases were all crammed into a glass door shelf, not stacked, just shoved in there in a manner in which they'd tumble out if you opened it. I carefully got the game we wanted to play out of there and the case was empty. He then pointed to a foot tall stack of naked discs on his coffee table with the discs being facing different directions and said "Check that, if it's not in there then probably on the floor somewhere"
I consider myself a collector in the way of "I haven't sold a single game I've bought since i started back in 2008" Im from a third world country so originally i had a pirated PS1 and PS2 cuz thats all i ever knew growing up, of course those "games" don't count but i got a DS Lite in 2008 and ever since I've owned every Nintendo platform and got games for them, and they are very precious to me honestly, I can't imagine selling them, despite several people telling me to do so throughout the years. I don't have anything too crazy and i mainly just buy the new releases but i did get some old ds games at around 2016 because they were great titles I wanted to own and play
oh no no, those old ds games were pkmn diamond, Animal Crossing Wild World and Kirby Super Star Ultra, i had played them on a flash card before so i was glad to get an original copy. I don't have much rare stuff, I mainly get what i really enjoy
I feel the sentiment about the “small collection” thing, I collect model trains and vintage computers, I remember the early days of both, the excitement of the couple of trains I had and the excitement of getting new ones, or stumbling across a computer in a flea market or on Craigslist, one I had only ever seen online and finally I had the chance to Get it. I still remember the first old computer I got, a purple iMac G3. Now I have a bunch of iMacs in different flavors and generations, boxed vintage computers, boring windows 98 machines and finding a new cool one doesn’t quite feel as exciting as when my collection started. Except when I found an eMachines eOne at a flea market on my 21st birthday. Literally it’s one of the high, lights of my collection along with my Commodore PET.
Very sorry on this episode's delay, with this being 26 minutes I felt there was no feasible way to finish it with enough quality by Sunday, and overall computer problems delayed it even further to a Wednesday release. When people ask me how to save money when collecting, I always point out the fact that alot of my retro collection was from my dad. A game collection wouldn't be a game collection without 3 copies of Pacman on Atari 2600.
Plus if you collect the big games for the previous generation you can save big in the long run.

Here’s a tip:
Go to weird sales, not stuff like garage sales or estate sales.
Thrift stores are great too, found a bunch of PS3 games for 2 dollars a pop
Years ago I used to live in a small village and every Sunday the town hall would put on a community-run cafe. The church next door had a sale going on one time, I found Pokemon Blue, R-Type DX and Chase HQ for £2.50. While these are pretty modest finds I still find it crazy that some church in the middle of nowhere had anything like that.
What do you mean by weird sales?

I guess sometimes you forget that time moves on, and that the things that were the height of technology at one time are now considered retro, classic, or just plain outdated.
I remember taking it to a habit, and playing metanightmare, it is still, to this day, the only game I’ve ever 100% and I get that nostalgic feeling whenever it’s brought up, basically, if you have a 3ds, buy Kirby robobot, it’s a great time.

hey who doesn't, it's friends on the ps2.
You see, when you collect sometimes you wanna waste your money on dumb shit, like Garfields nightmare for the DS
@@RappingChipmunk there is nothing dumb about Garfield, idk what your talking about
“I don’t think there’s any one of a kind items in my collection” What happened to sonic 2 with a line?
It's not gonna be one of a kind once I find my silver Sharpie marker!
@@shaneeverett07 lies
EXACTLY
Jeb Goodwin it’s a joke dumbass
Anyone with enough time and white Sharpies can make their own copies of "Sonic 2 with a line".

I love how Scott just has a framed photo of Wario World
Scott: you have to take care of your games!
Also Scott: *peanut butters his disc*
To be fair it was only Modern Warfare
Holy shit Bruno Bucciaratti

Scott: “People should take care of their games.” ... Ten seconds later: puts peanut butter in disc
When does he say that
I just got chills
@@Rioychi 19:16
wow he should have made a joke about that
It was Modern Warfare for the Wii
As a steam game collector, the ending really hit me in the feels
I remember when I only had like 7 games that I racked up 100s of hours on, and now with 100s just sitting there, undownloaded, with 0 hours, sometimes I feel hollow just looking at it
I feel you man, i had so many hours on gmod csgo, and i small handful of other titles, now i look at hollow knight and tell my, wtf how have i not played this game, its been in my library for 2 years. Quite sad. So many games, so little I play.
I just sit there looking at my Library all day with half of them never played and it really is a hollow feeling
yeah same here I have over 500 games on steam but the most i play is games under 10 dollars or free
@@zeropower1688 It really does suck, but I feel like it's less a case of having too many games to play and not enough time in the day so we just go with what we know
@@deathwizard1996 :( that's literally me
Usually I have a lot of criticisms of collecting to share, but it sounds like you are doing it right. Very healthy perspective. Just buy the ones you want to play, don't bother trying to pad out the collection, and make sure the collections is geared towards what is satisfying to you and not what other collectors would praise.
Can't wait for the individual Nigel Mansell's World Championship video
Nah im waiting for a Postal 2 video baby!
I just want the full L button video smh
@@hgu yes
It's awesome baby!
What's up checkmark
scott : “people who collect games and store them like this”
me : why does that look like an exact copy of my dad’s game collection
You are lucky.......
Scott the Woz is your dad.
I consider myself a collector in the way of "I haven't sold a single game I've bought since i started back in 2008"
Im from a third world country so originally i had a pirated PS1 and PS2 cuz thats all i ever knew growing up, of course those "games" don't count
but i got a DS Lite in 2008 and ever since I've owned every Nintendo platform and got games for them, and they are very precious to me honestly, I can't imagine selling them, despite several people telling me to do so throughout the years.
I don't have anything too crazy and i mainly just buy the new releases but i did get some old ds games at around 2016 because they were great titles I wanted to own and play
Do you have Chrono trigger DS? Prices are outrageous currently
oh no no, those old ds games were pkmn diamond, Animal Crossing Wild World and Kirby Super Star Ultra, i had played them on a flash card before so i was glad to get an original copy. I don't have much rare stuff, I mainly get what i really enjoy
Are u pinoy?
dear god no
Aquire raspberry pi 3 and retropie, then Google search roms
Scott: I don’t think I have anything that’s one of a kind
Also Scott: alright so the rarest game of all time.
It’s Sonic 2 with a line!!!!!
Jojo FannyPants I understood that reference
What about madden08?
The Hello Kitty racing game for the Wii U is actually notoriously rare
Quinton B but it still doesn’t hold a candle to Garfield Kart.
I think he sold that.
