    It's the final part - we made it!
    I really hope you find this one of particular interest. I have gone into some detail & discussion with the titles, I think there are some interesting points.
    I need to apologise for 2 things:
    1. The Lighting. Bwah. I thought it was plenty bright in the room - but no, it looks rather dim - I finally switch the lights on about halfway through!
    2. I decided not to do a full music background track. The video is pretty long at about an hour and it is getting increasingly difficult for me (due to my hearing) to edit the audio, especially soundtracks calibrated for background. I just added a few sound highlights for special spots.

    • @Lilly_Belle
      @Lilly_Belle ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Haha, I probably wouldn't have noticed the lighting. It was actually quite nice, very soft colors when the lights are slightly dimmed. Turned out well, regardless.

      @@Lilly_Belle Oh good, thanks for feedback. It can be hard to judge for me, since I have the brightness on my laptop way down (to protect eyes) and everything looks pretty dark that way! 😁

    Woooo, we made it! Absolutely loved this series Britta, havent been able to comment in awhile, but I love seeing new videos from you even if I dont get to leave a comment! It would be great to see you cover another consoles exclusives like the PS2, or favorites on the 3DS. Though I imagine that would take quite a few parts haha. All that said, thanks for making this series, have a feeling Ill be referencing these videos a few more times down the line. Keep up the grwat work as always! Hello Britta! Lovely video, as always, and I hardly noticed the lack of background music. If anything, it allowed me to focus on what you were saying more clearly, so please don't feel the need to continue using music in future videos if you don't have the opportunity. :)
    It was interesting to hear your thoughts on JK Rowling's fall from grace, as it were. As I see it, she clearly was a product of her time, and while society has evolved in the past 20 years, her views clearly have not. It's ironic that some of her characters (like Dumbledore) show a compassion and tolerance that she seems currently incapable of exhibiting. I still adore the Harry Potter world, and feel that despite some of its outdated themes, the books nevertheless contain important and topical messages (I read an interesting article, for example, about how Harry Potter essentially taught an entire generation about what a fascist society would look like). I also can't wait to start playing Hogwarts Legacy once it goes on sale. :-)

      @Food4Dogs  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the feedback on the BG music issue. 👍
      Haha, that's a very keen observation about Dumbledore vs JKR. 😄
      As to what exactly the Harry Potter world reflects and teaches youngsters .. I would say it's a divided heritage. There is the other, ultra-conservative and stifling side to her novels as well. I imagine the HP world creation is as conflicted as its author.

    I liked Heavenly Sword a lot for the characters (specially the catlike girl) and the cinematic look, it was written by Terry Pratchett's daughter Rihanna Pratchett, the writer for the tomb raider reboot and mirror's edge. The combat used sixaxis and I remember it was actually interesting if you played with it but the game rarely required you to do so, so it was easy to miss.

    • @Food4Dogs
      @Food4Dogs  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Aw yes - Rihanna Pratchett. She's a wonderful writer (I recently covered her game Lost Words).
      The cat girl is Kai, who uses that bow or cross-bow, and I think you're right, I must've missed (or they didn't show it properly!) some instruction for sixaxis motion, and was wondering why it wasn't working as expected.

    Thank you for this entertaining and informative series, and thank you for helping me figure out my video capture situation for PS3 games. I have a bit of a backlog of content to make having recently committed myself the "Summer Backlog Challenge" this year but I will make sure to make something PS3 related fairly soon now that I know I can again. Maybe I'll look at the Motorstorm games on the PS3, as you don't cover racing games it may be a nice counterpoint to your videos.
    I was shocked to see just how much that Resistance Trilogy pack goes for just because they are all together in a special box - the three games loose aren't worth much at al!

    On installing the updates, I think my issue with that is both of my PSN-linked PS3's are completely full of downloaded PSN games, even though both of them have the largest internal hard drive they support. I do have a 3rd PS3, but it's not linked to my account. Maybe I could use that one to download all the disc-based updates.
    When my kid was doing school from home, I actually hooked a Playstation Eye camera with the stand used for the card game to a second laptop, and I used that so that the teachers could see what he was writing. It was really useful.
    I enjoyed Heavenly Sword, but yeah it was disappointing they didn't make a sequel. I've heard of Tears to Tiara, but didn't know about this installment in the series.

    I was hoping to comment on the vita video to make this request, because I'm returning to the console scene. I'd like to watch this series but I just can't keep up. I'm not nearly fluent enough with the ps3's library. Are you familiar enough with the various models of the ps3 to make a video teaching about that, similar to your video on Vita models?
    The ceiling of my knowledge is that the backwards compatible ps3's are the "fat" models with either 20 or 60 GB of storage and 4 USB ports on the front. I'm not even sure if this is true to be honest, as I haven't pulled the trigger on a purchase yet.
    Do you have any insight on this subject?
    *rewrote the first paragraph a couple of times.

    • @Food4Dogs
      @Food4Dogs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, you want to learn more about the different PS3 models and which games they play?
      I'm honestly not a specialist in PS3 hardware. There are heaps of good videos on TH-cam explaining everything you need or want to know.
      I have actually never had a Phat model and don't have much use for it. It's very bulky (!), it has a very small hard disk and its perceived advantage is that it's completely back compatible with PS2 and PS1. I *much* prefer keeping a PS2 for playing PS2 games. The PS2 is very small, mine have all been reliable, and it's the home platform for PS2 games. Remember: back compatibility always comes at a price, some form of emulation has to run on the PS3 to achieve this.
      However, I don't have a PS1. While I have most PS1 games digitally, I do appreciate that I can play those games physically also on the PS3 - basically on all 3 models. (There are some exceptions depending on region and model number.)
      So: if you're interested *mainly* in playing PS3 games, I would always recommend going with one of the two later models: Slim or SuperSlim.

    The PC release of Tears to tiara 1 was in 2005, predating the anime by about 5 years, it had a ps3/psp remake in 2008 followed by the anime in 2009. Haven't touched any of those so can't really comment on content. To my knowledge there aren't any other releases of tears 2, I played tears 2 a while back and you're not wrong, it is very slowly paced, personally I like the pacing but it is a common complaint people have, I'd say it's pretty in line with the pacing of the Utawarerumono games.
    If you're familiar with the PS4 Uta games then tears 2 is clearly using an early version of that engine and the combat is somewhat similar, tears 2 combat is rougher in a lot of ways but ends up being much more complex. As for the difficulty I don't remember it being that hard or there being any difficulty walls in the main story at least, if you play a lot of rpgs I'm sure you'd be fine. As for the dlc it's very underwhelming, I wouldn't worry about not having them for the purposes of playing, it's just cameo characters with no story or context. As for the chibi models, yeah I agree they look bad, they're likely used due to a combination of low budget and the studio's lack of experience making 3D games, the later Uta games have a similar issue but by then they've at least gotten better at stylising the models so it's not quite as bad. Visually the designs are fairly generic but I remember liking the characters well enough, that said I do remember thinking some characters ended up really well realised while others were noticeably underdeveloped. As for the story the setting is pretty underused in jrpgs and it does a really good job of working historical events into plot points without it feeling overly forced. It definitely didn't feel like it was strongly connected to the first game outside of some postgame stuff but again I haven't touched tears 1 so I don't know for sure.
    The Utawarerumono comparison you made is pretty on point, both series started as adult pc visual novel strategy rpgs, went on to have anime adaptions and console remakes with the adult stuff taken out and found more widespread success in Japan as a result, before going on to get sequels on, at the time, modern consoles with English releases. That said nowadays it's pretty obvious that Uta found long term success where tears didn't, it stands out that tears 2 didn't even get a psp or vita port later on which is pretty out of line with aquaplus's practices at the time. There's pretty obviously a lot of overlap between the 2 series in terms of art, design, and writing, and given that it's a smaller company it's likely that the 2 series shared a lot of staff.
    Apologies for the essay, love your videos

    • @Food4Dogs
      @Food4Dogs  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Corro, you raise lots of interesting points - thank you!
      As to the anime, I have now ordered a copy and look forward to experiencing that.
      You say that the Tears2 combat gets more complex as you progress; that's great to hear, that's the sort of thing that'll keep me going.
      Thanks for the lowdown on the DLC, I feel relieved I don't need to worry about that. 😃
      I also thought the whole historical setting was rather interesting and cool. I wish games would do that more often.
      As to the shared development environment: it is intriguing that Uta went on to success and Tears didn't. I note that development for Uta was by Leaf and Sting; whereas Tears only had Leaf and Aquaplus. I dunno, might be just me, but I always think Sting adds something extra in terms of ideas and quality.

    I will be very interested to see what happens with the updates, patches and the like for PS3 games once those servers go down entirely. I've been worried about how games are released now isn't retro friendly and the PS3 might be the first console where that will be felt as it was the first generation that relied on online updates for its games. I assume there's a whole slew of games on PS3 where you really want the updates in order for the games to run well and some might even have game breaking bugs and crashes that were fixed in patches.
