I remember when Clarisonic was around… It ruined my skin so bad I ended up having to go on a course of Accutane because I just couldn’t get my skin back to what it was. I made sure to always clean the brushhead too. But i guess it wasn’t enough, considering it was a major source of harboring bacteria.

Back in my early 30s I suddenly was getting a whole bunch of tiny whiteheads on my face in areas that are usually not problematic, like my cheeks. When I finally went to see the dermatologist they explained it was because I was exfoliating too much it was actually aggravating the hair follicles or something. They were right, it was a vicious cycle I was exfoliating more to get the little whiteheads out not knowing I was causing them. I forget what they told me to do besides not exfoliate but it cleared up really fast and I’ve never never seen them again.

Those Clarisonic face scrubbers were a big thing back when I was younger…when skin care in general meant using a lot of harsh products and mechanical exfoliation was all the rage. I had one, but didn’t use it, it hurt!!

I love my Olay one, I use it twice a week & change the heads around every 3 months but I wash the brush head every single time before I use it & usually after I use it too unless I’m in a rush. I find it great for dry/combination skin but that being said I’ve tried 2 other brands & they were horrible. One the brush was too soft to even do anything & the other even tho the brush was too soft it was also irritating!!
Anyone with super dry flaky yet acne prone skin I totally recommend the Olay one, but again not every day & like she said you can’t just reuse the brush heads for weeks to months without washing them. Like eww 😅 oh & also do not store it or your toothbrush in the washroom! Again like eeew 😅🙈🙈

Yup, for us early 2000s teens, it was all about: Apricot scrub, Stidex pads, tanning beds/laying out with oil instead of sunscreen, straight-up peroxide & a thick layer of salicylic acid/benzoyl peroxide nightly (but caked all over your face- not as a spot treatment). It makes it hard to believe any skin care products because- what are we using now that will horrify us in the coming decades?

For me, it worked really well honestly. I don’t use one anymore because as I’ve gotten older, my skin is mostly clear now. But, back when I had more acne, my cell turnover was really slow and my face would just get really clogged up. Using the brush helped so much to exfoliate and get all of the funk off everyday.

I wash the head directly after every use. Soak in straight up alcohol before washing w antibacterial soap. Only use once every 2 weeks or so (w a grainy wash ) because i am chemically exfoliating w retinoids and acid mask by ordinary weekly. Every once in a while i want that microdermabrasion feeling exfoliation. So i use it for that. I follow up w my best ingredient skincare hoping it gets in nicely. Apricot scrub is the WORST thing next to crushed glass you could use on your face as an exfoliation product…..it is quite literally crushed up apricot seeds hence the rough and sharp edges that leave microscopic cuts on your face which then promote infection.
Ask your Derm or even your GP about that particular product. It’s been a huge “No-no” for over a decade.

Clarisonic was only supposed to used by people with congested pores and acne. Not cystic acne or very sensitive skin . And it had specific brushes for different skin problems. I have Rosacea and acne /oily t zone and it worked for me. I used it once a day. It when needed. My dermatologist suggested using one. Not everyone has the same skin ,so saying something shouldn't be used or making sweeping judgements about products doesn't help anyone. I'm 54, and I have tried hundreds of products since I was a teen . most of the time ,I find that what a Dr. wanted me to use, didn't help,(creams etc.) I did my own research into what my skin was and trial and error into what helped it clear up or kept it clear. Basically, I didn't rely on a dermatologist.🙄

I want 2 restate my initial comment bc 1st off IF something works for someone's skin, they're keeping it clean...& key word it works... Why fix what is not already broken? I personally did not like my cheaper version of the Clairisonic spin brush which came w/ 2 heads (1 for body & 1 for face) but I also used it VERY wrong. I used mine over 2 minutes 2X daily + w/ a glycolic acid cleanser that's only meant 2 be used 1x weekly which it even says on the bottle & says 2 apply gently w/ hands!!! It's not an everyday cleanser so that was 1 mistake, overuse was another mistake, & I stored the brush head in a drawer airing it out occasionally which is a 3rd mistake! I did pull out this device after this video & tried using the facial brush head w/ a gentle cleanser and it's not THAT bad but I STILL prefer my skincare techniques for clean, exfoliated, healthy, moisturized, glowy skin that's not perfect but in better shape Each day! ✌️ 🕊️💛💛

Ahh guilty of the Clarisonic and at home microneedling rollers 🤦‍♀️😩 I’ve had to do lots of treatments to un-don’t the damage.

Idk my Clarisonic has been the only thing to clean my skin. I spray it with alcohol after I rinse it

I still use my Clarisonic and I change the brushes and clean the parts under the brush and my skin is awesome. It’s a matter of which brush you use. I use a soft one. I’m 81 and as I was being wheeled into a minor surgical procedure this week the 2 nurses who were accompanying me commented to each other “She’s 81. She doesn’t have any wrinkles. Her skin is amazing. I would have never guessed her age “ (They thought I was out of it.) It’s partly genetics of course but also that I started talking care of my skin in my 20’s and have never stopped. I can’t use retinols because they irritate my skin but I do use Vitamins C and E. My point is that find out what works for you and stick with it.

Is true. My dermatologist also said to me to wash my face with hands only and never use any tools as it may break skin barrier and spread germs. I already spend so much money for all those brushes 😢

I didn't know Clarisonic went out of business.

Clarisonic was owned by Phillips if I recall correctly. They didn’t go to business, they just stopped making the product. Phillips also makes the sonicare toothbrush, which is clear and available today.

Wow. I remember wanting a Clarisonic so bad at some point! I never bought one because I didn’t know how to clean the brush and it was too expensive for me. This is the first time I’m hearing about Clarisonic again after 5 years and I’m glad I wasn’t rich enough to buy one all those years ago.

Thank you!! I’ve tried using these before and honestly it hurts my skin so bad! It looks and feels so soft and nice until it’s on your face.

I actually really loved my Clarisonic. Haven’t been able to find anything I like nearly as much since.

I bought Clarisonic years ago and it made my aczema flare up so bad. My entire face was red, itchy and burning 🔥

It’s common sense not to use something like that on inflamed or acne covered skin. The product isn’t to blame.

absolutely! I bought a real cheap one, just a couple bucks, terrible for my face, made my skin sore! someone said they use it for their sneakers which I'm so gonna try now

I’ve had my Clarisonic since 2015 and I still use it daily. I do wash the brush heads and keep it dry when not it use. I have to say, my skin has always been problematic UNTIL I started using this. Since then, no issues! It’s not a blanket DO NOT USE product. I say, use it it you found it works. A worker in staples yesterday said I look 32….I’m 46.

I remember the Clarisonic days! And people would pair them with these REALLY exfoliating scrubs like they really want to lose all their skin, I was so lucky I had (well still have) super sensitive skin so I already knew I couldn’t hang with those brushes

I've never used a Clarisonic but I remember the ads, along with Proactiv they were both huge back in the day! As for the lil sneak in of the mentioning of Jade rollers at the very end, I use my Jade roller only sometimes; I should probably use it more!
