- The rumble of the Ukraine-Russia conflict has turned the spotlight on a fearsome predator: the Ka-52 Alligator attack helicopter. Touted by the Kremlin as the “world’s best gunship”, this chopper has been making waves, especially in the south, where it has been chomping down on Ukrainian armor like a reptilian diner.
As Kyiv's counter-offensive progresses, there are reports of increased deployment of Russian Ka-52 attack helicopters targeting Ukraine's Western armor, such as Bradley fighting vehicles and Leopard 2 tanks. Military buffs and defense experts are buzzing about the Ka-52's ability to crack Ukrainian tanks where traditional air defenses struggle.
Take, for instance, a June 2023 incident that grabbed attention. The Russian Ministry of Defense dropped a cockpit video showing a Ka-52 effortlessly taking down two Ukrainian tanks in just 25 seconds using Anti-Tank Guided Missiles-ATGMs launched from the air.
Some folks argue that the tanks might have been left deserted, but the video clearly puts the Ka-52's firepower on display and hints at its potential to tip the scales. Even the UK Ministry of Defence is impressed, calling it "

This is the only Attack helicopter that has a legitimate battle experience, other Attack helicopters experience are uneven battles enjoying limited or no anti air threats
you are a little wrong. There is probably no more combat helicopter than the MI-24, which is fighting all over the world. Russia also uses the MI-28, which is used on equal terms with the KA-52. Moreover, it was the MI-28 that was the first to receive the Lemur long-range missile, which is an analogue of the Israeli Spike missile and has a range of 15 km. I think that the Russians should combine the MI-28 and KA-52 into one helicopter. Each car has its own strengths. The MI-28's armor is much stronger than that of the KA-52, while the KA-52 has a pilot rescue system and better maneuverability due to its two propellers.

But I will say the Mi-24, called a Hind-D when I was in service, is probably the most battle tested attack helicopter.

It is hard tonday how many helicopters Russia has lost, they're not going to say. In Vietnam the U. S. lost over 5000 helicopters. If we use a rough number of 10 years in Vietnam, that's 500 a year, that's a little over 40 a month/1+ a day. This in the days of no real presence of sophisticated air defence weapons.
Russia is not losing 1 helicopter a day. While they are vulnerable, how many tanks and other equipment has the KA-52 killed? They are keeping it for a reason.
at first, you are comparing much much lower technology with much more modern systems. A UH1 is realtive simple compared to a KA52. The other thing is, the US mostly had airsuperiority. So they were confident, to fligh over enemy territory. Something russia doenst do. Comparing both wars is simply wrong, because vietnam was a guerillia warfare and this a complete conventional war. So your argument, doenst make sense at all. In the first days of war, russia lost the most helicopters. Since then, they mostly stay far behind the frontlines.

They obviously can destroy tanks very effective, that doenst change the fact, that warfare has changed. We saw in the early days of the invasion, that russia used a lot of helicopters to bring in its soldiers. They lost very very badly and a lot. Now they mostly stay behind the frontlines. The KA52 is maybe one of the best helicopters ever built, but it doenst matter, they are easy targets for manpads. So in theory, you fly over and destroy a dozen tanks, but in reality there is one guy with a stinger or strigla and then your whole advatage, to attack from the sky is gone.
It means that Ka 52 is the nail in USA 🇺🇸 eyes.

as expected at the end of the day it's the world's 2nd best military against... whatever Ukraine is considered now. This is the problem with politicians while they have the opportunity to negotiate they don't. once the line of defense breaks they want to but the enemy doesn't as they advance. What the Ukrainian leadership doesn't realize is that no matter how heroic or well they fight this war comes down to attrition where they can't win unless they drag other major powers into the conflict... just ask the average westerner if they want to go to Ukraine to fight a war with a great power possessing 5800 nuclear warheads, 2300 ready to go.
Now I hear they are planning another offensive: everybody know you need a 3:1 ratio in any attacking operation, in this war maybe more as drones allow everyone to know what's going on. At this rate it is also questionable if Russia is really getting weaker or this war is adding further incentive to strengthen their military industrial complex.

Russia has a long legacy of experience in attack helicopters going back to the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan in the 1970's -1980 where the legendary Russian aeronautics engineer Mikhail Mil-much improved through rigorous testing. the Mi-24 was based on Mil’s previous Mi-8 helicopter.
Mi-24 helicopters were the ones the Soviets most widely used in Afghanistan, with Hind-D making its initial appearance in 1976, and Hind-E appearing in the mid-1980s. A strict upgrade over Hind-A, both variants were heavily armed, with three weapon mounts under each wing and a 28mm machine gun turret at the front of the vehicle, under the gunnery cockpit.
