    Great video David! I was under the impression that this model would be difficult because the design is a lot more "closed up" then my earlier Satellite. Thanks again!

    Cheers for this, was looking at purchasing one of these but had no idea how easy to upgrade the HDD for an SSD....easy enough thanks to your video.

    I've had one of these for quite some time now (must be about 5 years), have replaced the Battery, upgraded to an SSD, regularly cleaned the fan and heat sink and just recently replaced the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU. Quite an easy system to work on really. Still performs well, especially with the SSD upgrade, but only any good for 5+ year old games as most new games require more than the 2GB VRam. It Idles silent and boots to a usable state in less than 10 seconds

    Thank you for this video. Does this particular laptop have a CMOS battery inside or is everything powered from the internal battery?? I have a P50-A (very similar), it it will not power on now. Have replaced the internal battery twice now, so not sure if it is a bad CMOS or if the internal battery needs replacing once again. Thank you.

    Hey, my P50t-B laptop can disable the battery from the BIOS (for servicing porpuses). The laptop cannot be powered again until it is connected to an AC adapter, meaning that the battery is effectively disconnected. This should be a safe way to "disconnect" the battery, right? Otherwise your video was very helpful, thanks for uploading it to TH-cam!

      Jesús Pestana Puerta Thanks for that tip, I didn't know about that.

    • @jespestana
      @jespestana 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      dpcomputing No problem :-). The Toshiba videos on how to replace an HDD by oneself and your video both point out that it is important to disconnect the battery before "servicing". I used the BIOS option to replace my laptop's HDD, and as far as I can tell no harm was done to the laptop.

      Yep I did it last weekend, firt time I 'teared down' a laptop. Was easy enough. I think this is good laptop to start with as you do not have to take the keyboard out like some others.

So I don't have to remove the back just to see and order the battery would you be kind enough to tell me what battery model number to order so I can just open up the laptop the once to change it out ? Much appreciated mate.. Thanks heaps 😃

    Thanks a lot for your nice and clear video. Can you explain if its easy to upgrade the of the wireless adapter 7260 (300mbs) for the new one: INTEL 7260.HMWWB.R Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 - (867mps). I think i saw it in your video near the battery.. Do you know if its easy to change it? Do you have any video changing the hdd to sdd and intslling a cady dvd drive with the original hdd? Do you think is easy to change the SO Windows 8 to the sdd? Very gratefull for the video. Hope this questions can be of interest to other fellows. My toshiba is a P50-A-12z ( i7-4700MQ) (NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 745M) with 1TB hdd and 8GB ram (2x4gb),
    I waana upgrade ram to 16gb the wireless card and the hdd to ssd. I´ll think that i´ll get State of the art performance. I think that i´ll waste about 100€-16Gb ram + 120€256gbsdd + 25€-7260 + 20€caddy.
    This upgrade is about +/-250€. I like to know your opinion and other friends here about this idea.?

    • @dpcomputing
      @dpcomputing  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Luis Manuel Yes the wireless NIC is easy - just remove the antenna and a couple of screws (you could also plug in a USB adapter to make it super easy). The SSD upgrade will give it a great boost in speed but I don't have a video showing this upgrade - if you are unsure take it to a qualified person.

      dpcomputing Thanks for you opinion. I´ve already order this 16GB ram at ebay: New Hynix 8GB PC3L-12800 1.35V DDR3 1600mhz 204pin Laptop Memory Ram NON-ECC Item price: £112.00.
      PQ371 GG597 Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260.HMWWB Wi-Fi and Bluetooth card - £28.82
      I share this for someone who wants to build a great and powered laptop.
      As soon as i can i´ll invest in SSD and the caddy. Just wiating for more financial disponibilty and some kind of promotion.
      Congratulations for your work hope you could get the return from the universe for such interesting videos. Be happy. Regards from Portugal. luis

    Hello, that's a nice video, I have a question... the sata conector of the HDD is sata 2 or sata 3?

    • @vascogt
      @vascogt 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Juan José Aguilar It's SATA 3. Just upgraded mine to an SSD. It takes me 17 seconds from turned off to a Google search on Firefox!
      Plus I got an HDD caddy for the CD reader, so my old hdd id still in there in place of the cd reader. Had to do this because the computer will only boot from the SATA 0( internal) slot.

    I have the exact model Toshiba Satellite P50t-A. I need locate the jumpers on the motherboard that are used to reset the CMOS/BIOS password. For other models, they are easy to spot and they should be marked?! I could not locate them for this model.

      It uses EFI not CMOS/BIOS. Instead of storing the settings in volatile memory with a battery backup they are saved on an EFI partition on your HDD.

    I am trying to clone the HDD to SSD and was going to put in the CD/DVD drive. but soon found out the delock slim sata frame isn´t the same size. Anyway. I was advised before removing the HDD to disconnect the battery so I did. after putting everything together with the old HDD in its place ( going to use USB-SATA for the cloning) the computer won´t boot. No lights, nothing.. any idea?

    • @vascogt
      @vascogt 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brendan Mendonca Yes there is. I've done it. Takes me 17 seconds from turned off to a completed Google search in firefox. You have to place the SSD in the inner SATA port and the HDD in the cd caddy, since the computer only alows the inner sata to have bootable media.

    • @dpcomputing

      Luiz Wagner You would need specific caddy to hold the hdd in the spot made for the optical drive. So while it is technically possible I wouldn't recommend it. I'd suggest you go for one of the hybrid (SSD + platter) drives.

      And the maximum amount is 8gb flash for laptops?

    • @dpcomputing
      @dpcomputing  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Luiz Wagner at the beginning the sshd is learning about what type of data to keep in the cache / SSD part. So yes at the beginning the speed improvement is not too great but will slowly improve as it learns.

      it was easy for me because it's not the first time. do it carefully and slowly. It take some time to disassemble and reassemble it again.

    Hello everybody, I've recently broke the female end of the charger, the part thats actually in the laptop which goes directly go the motherboard. I was wondering if anyone has one to sell or could point me in the right direction as to where i could find one. Any help would be greatly appreciated and will send money to anyone that helps me locate one. cheers.

      +Aaron Jessome have you searched Ebay or contacted Toshiba directly?

    • @bsbravati
      @bsbravati 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Aaron Jessome is it completelly ruined? If not, have you tried resoldering the one you got? I had charging problems in an old Toshiba due to a microcrack in the solder and doing that worked.

    Why don't you say if it's either voiding your warranty or not and not just 'maybe'. You guys are being lazy can't be bothered to do some research and just falling back to the 'just in case' reasoning. People will be scared by your warning and not bother with upgrading their computer and just get a replacement. Which brings me to another point... Do you know how much trash we throw out each year?

    • @dpcomputing
      @dpcomputing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well it depends on whether the viewer damages anything within the laptop or not as to whether the warranty is voided!

    • @truckcompany
      @truckcompany 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. Maybe perhaps next time you can add that into the video? Some computers do void the warranty just by opening it whether you break something inside or not. For instance AiO and some desktops. I know plenty of people who think wrongly that their laptop will be void just by opening it. That's not the case.
      Anyway, thanks for the video, I honestly do appreciate it. I've just completed a HDD to SDD clone for a customer and your video did help speed up the process. Many thanks.

    • @dpcomputing
      @dpcomputing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, opening the case doesn't automatically void the warranty despite what the manufacturers say. It all depends on the laws of the country you are in as to what constitutes voiding the warranty - manufacturers have to abide by local laws and rules! Thanks for the feedback though, much appreciated.
