I was born and raised in Rome, Italy, and came to the US when I was 18 to study at Stanford. This song still makes me emotional. I took the oath of citizenship in New York City just days after 9/11. Perhaps, if you're not an immigrant you can't understand what this means, but I will always be grateful my teachers and parents encouraged me to come to America.
@@FecitAnon I appreciate what you wrote. I feel a lot of us Americans who were born here sometimes forget just how wonderful this nation is. Thank you.
My great grandparents immigrated from Ireland, searching for opportunity, and they found it. Lots of sweat and hard work over the years, and they were proud to become citizens of America.
When I lived in the town below Grand Coulee Dam, crowds would come from hours away to watch the laser light show projected on the face of the dam nightly during the summertime. The part I liked most was when the story talked about immigrants to America, set to the sounds of this song. It was so patriotic and, in a way personal, as my wife was an immigrant.
I'm 46 years old and grew up on Neil Diamond. I'm a huge fan of his. My great grandparents on my father's side immigrated here from Netherlands, Germany and Norwegian. My mom is full blooded Native American so her side of the family have always been here.
Sarah, you MUST do more Neil Diamond!! Try: "I Am I Said", "September Morn", "Love on the Rocks", "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" (duet with Barbara Streisand), "Longfellow Serenade"...
I loved this song, and my mother loved Neil Diamond. He wrote this when people came into America, legally took tests and became proud American citizens ❤
I enjoyed your heartfelt reaction to Neil's great song. It is stirring, I particularly like his line "We're traveling light today, in the eye of the storm." Imagine taking only what you can carry and escorting your family to a new land. Neil somehow puts that to music. One of the best songwriters and performers ever. Thanks for sharing. Happy Independence Day. :-)
I understand why you got goosebumps. You have such a beautiful soul! I think you’re amazing! I don’t watch all your videos but the ones I do watch always make me smile.
@@michaelhowell7211 This song gives you the feeling that most immigrants felt when they dreamed of coming here. I just think it represents who we are better than the others.
😊❤ Hi! 😅 I got Goosies too ... for at least 1000 times!! LOL I had the cassette this was on. I am pretty sure it is The Jazz Singer. It is the soundtrack to the movie with the same name!! 😅🤩 Both are fantastic!! Yes, Neil Diamond sang with so much passion!! I think anyone can relate to this as an anthem to their own life journey! I think this video was extremely touching! 🥰 😅❤❤
Hey my dear . Iam African American. My grandfather who lived with us until he past. I think ii was about 11 years old. He use to play this type of music which gave me such a great diverse of music to witch i truly appreciate. Let's do one of my favorites. Thank you my dear.
On July 4,1976 we went downtown to watch the fireworks and on the radio they played music to the fireworks and this song was one of the songs that they played. I’ll never forget that day. It’s a shame the way immigrants are treated now. It makes me sick. Except for native Americans we are all immigrants.
There has always been a tension in America between wanting to welcome immigrants and wanting to shut the door. This song shows our welcoming side, where everyone has a chance to rise up from nothing.
In 2016, I was in Ukraine doing business. My close Ukrainian associate called my USA passport the “Golden Ticket”. That country seemed like it would enthusiastically lobby to be our 51st state. So much of their current culture was American centric.
From a Vietnam Era Vet who has faced the enemy weapons at close range with my Black, Asian, Latino and White brothers by my side... concur with you on all fronts. Thank you for your service, Sir.
This song is a powerful reminder of how it used to be. My grandparents came in 1900 and worked hard and became citizens. This song makes me cry proud tears, thankful for all immigrants who came here with great hope, became citizens and decades later still love what America represents and are grateful to be called American.
American is or was open to all for their dreams. Unfortunately, some came to make their way the only way. I, being from California 67 years ago, have hope that the melting pot will subdue that and enrich those with true ambitious dreams for all to share
Beautiful, Beautiful Sarah well said!

I won the lottery by being blessed to have been born in AMERICA on Veterans day!

This should be the national anthem. I think everybody should remember where they came from.

I respectfully disagree with you. I was born in the USA. I didn't immigrate from anywhere. My great great grandparents did.
@ if our ancestors came from somewhere else that means we are an immigrant family.

Yes..
If y'all come and learn laws and immigrate right way!
Except for native Americans and enslaved people, we are a country of immigrants. America is a land of hope

And how was YOUR America so great

I live in Mexico and I love this song. But you must understand that America is not a country. America in an entire continent. I am an American too
