One of the things I miss due to the edicts of His Fraudulency's Administration are the swearing in ceremonies for new citizens. They are always so happy and nervous as they are waiting for it to get started and then rightly happy and proud of their achievement afterwards. :-)

@Penderyn Don't be an ignorant fool. The Natives fought wars of conquest as well. War and strife didn't start the day America won her independence; it's human nature. Furthermore, Native Americans are Americans. They can achieve their dreams here better than anywhere else. They are us, even if we are not they.

The American dream is as real as your own dreams that you carry in your heart. That is what makes America great, our dreams as a free people, living and striving each day to achieve those dreams as best we can. That is why other people of the world want to come to America to live in freedom to make their own dreams a reality. We are extremely lucky to be Americans there is so much we can be proud of despite the ugliness and sins in our history. Live and dream each day knowing that we are the makers of America through accomplishing our dreams.

Neil Diamond wrote this with his grandparents in mind. They were Jewish immigrants who fled Europe during the pogroms. They came here with nothing and he meant every word of it. If you're interested, this song, along with some other of Diamond's top songs, are featured in a movie called The Jazz Singer (1980). It's a pretty great film, featuring Laurence Olivier in the last decade of his 50-year long legendary career. It's the story of a young Jewish man whose immigrant parents want him to be a cantor, but he wants to do his own secular, rock music. Beautiful performances and great sounds.

He has a highly distinctive and immediately recognisable voice and impeccable phrasing, and he's a hell of a performer. Please review some of his other work. He has a huge catalogue to choose from and has written numerous classics: I'm a Believer, Red Red Wine, Solitary Man, Holly Holy, Brooklyn Roads, Soolaimon, Stones, Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show, Dry Your Eyes, Beautiful Noise... 1905 my grandpa and his brother arrived from Ireland on Elis Island. No money just clothes on their backs. His brother sent back for he had polio. Penniless and homeless my grandfather worked the brick yards in New York City. 5 years after arriving his brother came back. They lived in a tent city. Eventually able to get an apartment and in 1925 bought a house. He loved this country. Never made much money but loved what this country stood for. Always told me freedom comes with a price and when you come here you accept the laws and constitution and moral values that made this country great.

Not a bad place to start.. it was a movie song , which he starred in & wrote the music.. Funny about Neil, he can sing rock and pop and whatever you want really, (He did a duet with Barbra Streisand which is an iconic song, what some people called a sell-out) but, all in all, He is probably one of the most beloved American singers of the last 55 or more years. any genre of music. So many to choose from, I would do his first big hit that he sang next, that was Cherry, Cherry, in 1966, soft rock with a good beat..but as he got older, the songs definitely matured .. so many hits for him and songs he wrote for others.. Enjoyed your reaction very much..

My folks were huge Neil Diamond fans, so I grew up listening to it, and this was my favorite song in the world for a spell - I loved yelling out "Today" in time with the song! Dig into his catalogue - he's written a TON of phenomenal songs! I had a random chance to see him in concert about a decade ago, and he put on a hell of a show!
I loved your comments about defending this great land of ours. I too am disheartened when I hear people crapping on the country. I can take honest criticism, but not the pure hatred I so often hear. God bless you all for your cheer, your patriotism, and your doggedness in pursuing your goals - you guys are awesome!

We have our flaws, and we shoudln't be afraid to acknowledge them.
We've done wrong in the past, and we should learn from that.
But we've also done great good. And we have the potential for vastly more good.
If we can just remember the kind of people we want ourselves to be, instead of focusing overmuch on what we have or don't have.

This is the score of the movie the jazz singer. Check out another song of his from the same album called. Hey Louise it’s on TH-cam. Same stage said earlier in the movie.

Your trepidation is understandable with all the naysayers currently squawking in Twitter and other social media.
Glad you both were able to hear the positive message.
Lex, I liked your story. I can remember having to perform a trumpet solo in middle school in front of the student body. Things like that do indeed stick with you all your life.

I listen to this song a lot while driving thur this great country delivering good to your local stores.Seeing people and the freedom we have but we as Americans need to fight and keep this in our hearts. This song gave me hope in this country and sometimes still does.People say we need culture in this country,I say we have a distinctive culture in this country. It is called FREEDOM.

There is nothing wrong with loving America and being proud of America. It doesnt mean you deny or ignore the issues. The problem today is all our media focuses on is the problems which only makes the problems worse.

You ought to do something of Neil's from the "Hot August Night" live album, though I'm not sure what you've done of his so far. Maybe "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show," "Holly Holy," "Play Me," "Canta Libre."

My grand father used to drive me around 35 years ago and thump this. He loved it. He’d tell me how he saw him live once and that Neil rocked so much people stood out of their chairs. Being into metal that wasn’t too impressive. My grandfather never smiled. Never felt good. His life had been harder than I can easily describe, he was unbelievably stoic. His parents came to this country with nothing, yet by the time he was sixty my grandfather owned three houses and had 5 successful children. He saw the new deal and the promise America offered his parents as inspirational. As I said his life was tough but he had opportunities he just had to work. He pointed out to me that that dream had died with Reagan and that neither party served us anymore. That this song was about the best America could be and had been for him. He just didn’t think that new immigrants could expect the same opportunities.

This came out in a time where it meant something to come to America. My son in law just became a citizen. He came to America, got his MBA, married our daughter and became a citizen. Now that’s the right way to grab ahold of the dream. We are so proud of him. 🇺🇸 🎉

This is from the movie The Jazz Singer that Neil starred in. There Is a live version which is a scene from the movie you should check out! It's beautiful to see. There are many people that still flee their countries for a better life. Look at he Ukraine now. I bet there will be thousands of people coming here because of that war.

I love my Country... Have lived and would die for it. It's some of the POLITICIANS I don't like.
I feel that since many of us have known nothing BUT what this Country has freely given to us, we can't appreciate what we have, as Other People Earned it for us.
As a Serviceman, I got to go overseas and can appreciate other Countries, but my heart will forever be "made in the USA".
