I think she meant if your hair naturally shrinks when certain products that especially contain water shrinks your hair then it's normal. But let's say you applied way too much heat to your hair over the past few months and I wash your hair and see that you have long strangely strands of hair, that probably means your hair isn't healthy and that it's damaged

That was a great demo! I’m type 4, so fighting shrinkage is largely a losing battle, so I embrace it. I prefer definition over volume because I love to show off my curl pattern and styles last longer if I don’t over stretch the them. And I didn’t know Afro Sheen has new products. I’m dating myself but when I was in high school, Afro Sheen and Luster products were pretty much all us naturals had.

Actually, you can have a bit of both. 1st technique is to use gel even if you want to strech. I do this, and still able to combat shrinkage. using gel also give more definion and make the style last longer even if its streched. 2nd method is to use a streching thechnique on the inside of the hair, and on top where the hair is visible, u use the shrunken technique. So u create the illusion of defined curl on streched hair (but in reality is just the top of your hair being defined)

This is interesting!! I think both sides look beautiful. But i can see the difference if you're specifically wanting more definition with tue curls or if yiu want more of a stretched look! I think your hair came out beautiful either way. Personally i like a laid back more natural vibe with hair that looks like you aren't trying to look so polished! I dig it.

  • @laurice8056

Both looks have some advantages. The more defined curls may not frizz as fast as the more stretched fluffy side. But the full side looks dramatic and glamorous. The defined side may look more in proportion for a small head, face and features. But on you Sis, Both sides look fabulous! Thanks for sharing!🙏🏾

  • @letitaivory8831

Alyssa, you looked great with both styles! I like both sides but, I would prefer the defined side to show the defined pattern and for longevity of the style. Over the years my hair has changed and I now have a more defined curl pattern I never saw when I was younger. I'm new to wearing my curls like this or in a twist so, I'm definitely going to try your tips...hopefully I'll end up with a good result. I also didn't know that Afro Sheen had new products!

Shrinkage is just a testament to how versatile and beautiful curly hair is.
Shrinkage can be very useful if you want your hair shorter and tucked in. And there are other methods to stretch it and wear it long! It’s so cool. I’m happy curly hair is shedding the stigmas around it and people are finally seeing how lucky it is to have hair that curls that you can wear any which way you want depending on your mood

I do the same with the dyson. Your left side, my right, is what I do. I like my definition as well. Also I can use silk scrunches later to stretch to my desired length, which I don’t leave them on more than 30 minutes and that gives me enough stretch and keep my definition. I love your thick hair. I have thick strands, but medium density. Love, Love Love your hair.💕

Your hair is beautiful! I enjoyed the demonstration of the two types of shrinkage avoidance. 😊

What about going to sleep? Do you put your hair in a bonnet while your hair is down? Or do you put your hair in a ponytail? Twists? Braids? Chiny bumps?
Basically, when your hair is down and you're going to go to sleep or rest, what do you do?

Love♥️ both. The longer side looks like day 3/4hair. Either way is bomb. When I'm going for longevity, I want shrinkage. Meaning going longer between wash days.

She's right, do not obsess over shrinkage. Your curls will *naturally* bounce back (which they should) but if you want to elongate them, all you have to do is brush/comb daily, keep them hydrated and use a curl cream. Shea Moisture has a curl enhancer that not only defines curls but definitely loosens your hair and the curls fall 💯

I was trying so hard not to say anything because it's up to you to do what you want to your head and I'm not that into commenting on videos these days, but I honestly feel like you can have both. I would try a combination of both routines. Do what you did on the more defined side in terms of product and application and then diffuse it from the top down, the way you diffused the more voluminous/"lengthy" side instead of scrunching it up.

That's all my stylist uses is her hands to define my curls and boy does she get them defined which I love! But once my hair dries the curls shrink up to my neck. The style will last a lot longer though. In oder for my curls to remain shoulder length I would need to grow my hair out a lot longer which does take time. Great video! And I like the defined side better.😊

I love both sides but I love big hair more. I have embraced my shrinkage. I love that I can have both sides and still look and feel good either way.

Hi! I like the curl definition side. Have you tried the banding method to stretch your hair? If so, do you think that it work with the curl definition side?

Wow! I need to try that diffuser. I agree with you 100% on the shrinkage issue. With shrinkage your hair is more defined and with stretched hair you lose definition. Gotta chose your battles lol
