I see you changed clothes after swimming. How was that switch?

So there are changing rooms down by the waterfall but we actually held up towels in the windows of our car and just changed in the car 🫣😂

Great video, we'll be there in March. Did y'all do the swimming before the Luau? I was wondering if there's somewhere to change and get cleaned up before the Luau?

Thank you Bridget. So we swam first so I had to wear my hair in a bun at the luau so I didn’t look like a drown rat 😁. So we actually changed in the car. There are changing stalls (but they are outside) down by the waterfall so if you carry your stuff down there you. Oils always change there. I’m sure you could always change in the bathrooms up by the luau (which is right by the parking lot) as well. Hope that’s helpful and that you have a wonderful time ❤️

This is so helpful! Do you have any advice on whether to do the 1 or 5 pm, or whether to do the waterfall before/after the luau? I'm having trouble figuring out how to do the hike and swim, and sill look somewhat presentable for a luau! Are there places to change? Thanks so much!

Trissie I’m so glad you found the video helpful. So I had the same dilemma as you in that I wanted us to look cute for the luau. Unfortunately convenience won out (as you can tell by my daughter and my slicked back yet head) 😂. We only had the option of the 5 pm but I think that’s probably the best choice. I can’t remember exactly how long the luau is but I’m thinking it was about 2 1/2 hours. The waterfall closes at 4:30 so it’s doable but you will be rushed! With that said there are changing rooms down by the waterfall. I’m pretty sure there are bathrooms up by the parking lot that you can use to change. We just draped towels over the window and changed in our van. I will say that I wish I would have budgeted more time for Waimea Valley. We got there at like 3 because we had done other activities on the North Shore so we were definitely booking it down to the waterfall. There are many other activities and things to do there and I was bummed we didn’t. Sorry that was a really long drawn out answer 😆. I hope your family has a wonderful time at the luau. We loved it. So educational and entertaining. One of my favorites from the trip.

Thank you for sharing your experience and including Waimea Valley portion! My kids would love to swim in that waterfall, and with life vests provided-so cool! I researched & compared all the luau’s in Oahu. Paradise Cove was my first pick (budget-wise, scenery-wise, and kid-friendly). Tao Laua was my other choice, but you have me convinced that it is so much more intimate, welcoming, and traditional. You guys seemed to really enjoy it! The only problem is, like you, I waited too long and there are not enough tickets for the Silver Package 😩 The Gold Package is a lil over my budget, but I think I’ll bite the bullet!

Thank you so much for your kind comments. We knew that this was likely our only time to make it here with the kids so we decided to bite the bullet and get the tickets (but it was a big bullet 😁). I hope you have a wonderful time. ❤️

Thank you for this amazing video! My family is doing the 5pm Luau. How long would you say it took your family to hike up to the waterfall?

Aww thanks for your sweet comment. The hike is not bad. Just about 30-45 min. However if you give yourself plenty of time there I believe they have tours where they will take you around and tell you about the valley. After the fact I wished we had spent more time there but we spent some of our day at the North Shore. Hope that helps!

We went there in February this year. The walk was too much so we took the tram to the waterfall. We didn't go into the water but watched people have fun. That was around 2pm. The luau would start at 5pm so there was plenty of time to enjoy the sights and go back to the pavilion and gift shops. Plus there were different activities and crafts you learned to do. It was over at 9pm. We enjoyed the entertainment and food. We got the VIP package. It is family-owned and operated and the most authentic luau on the island. This was the best part of our vacation. Highly recommend it. They fill up fast so book it before leaving home.

Thanks for your comment. I love the perspective you shared. It was one of our favorite things on the island as well.

How early would you recommend to go there to do the activities and wander around waimea valley?

    • @PeachyKeenes

Hey! So it’s hard for me to say because we didn’t give ourselves enough time. I would say factor in tours and their lengths and time (I think this info is in their website). I would say give yourself at least an hour and a half for walking to/from the waterfall and playing in it. I would think 1/2 a day would be good but we didn’t do the tours so again it’s hard to say for sure. So just depending on what you would like to do there, that will determine how long to plan. Sorry that’s not specific. Hopefully it’s still a little helpful ❤️
