    Thank you Dr. Elder. I'm preparing for medical school in Australia in a few months and I've been having fun watching your videos :)
    I discovered your channel through your Organ of Corti video. Before seeing that video I didn't quite understand how hearing actually worked (I always thought the waves propagating through the fluid in the inner ear [turns out there's two types of inner ear fluid!!] directly moved the hair cells like waves) but your excellent visual style of teaching really helped me get a better grip on hearing.
    Now this video is another fun one explaining something I didn't know before.
    Thank you!

    So the movement of Na in and out of the cell is constant? even at rest?
    I don't understand why the ATPase is working to get the Sodium out only to be back in due to osmolality in a matter of seconds (that is my understanding).

    • @DrEldersAnatomyChannel
      @DrEldersAnatomyChannel  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, Na & K drift in and out of the cell at rest due to open Na and K channels. The ATPase pumps them back to the respective sides of the membrane. The sodium moves into the cell due to less Na being in there, the K moves out due to the change in charge inside the cell due to Na coming in. ATPase moves them back to the proper sides but needs to use energy due to it being active transport. In this case, the cell membrane has more channels for NA/K to go through and to respond, more mitochondria and ATPases are needed and because it takes ATP to make ATP and ATPases use ATP, metabolism increases

    Hey doctor you explained very well...but I couldn't understood that why O2 consumption increased and why heat is produced ...plz ans

    • @DrEldersAnatomyChannel
      @DrEldersAnatomyChannel  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      O2 increases because you are making more ATP because metabolism is increasing. You need the O2 to basically collect electrons in the mitochondria after they pass down the electron transport chain. The making of the extra ATP with additional ATP Na/K ases also increases heat production as its part of metabolism

      Increase body muscle mass and exercising.

    How long does this take to happen and reach equilibrium after introducing a the levothyroxine medicine to the body? Days, weeks or months? I recently increased my dose because I was way undersized based on TSH and T3/T4 levels. Overweight at bmi of 30. sluggish physically and mentally. Still waiting to notice a change and it’s been about a month since adjusting the dose. It was a significant dose increase.

      @@DrEldersAnatomyChannel yea I did. And he said a matter of days which I didn’t believe. Won’t be seeing this guy anymore either because I just don’t trust his methods. Unfortunately he was the only endocrinologist in the area. So I’m asking professionals instead…like yourself.

    When thyroid hormone increases the oxygen consumption in the mitochondria to make ATP, more fatty acids can be broken down and this is how we lose weight.

    • @DrEldersAnatomyChannel
      @DrEldersAnatomyChannel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The TH leads to the cell membrane becoming more leaky to sodium so Na/K atpase has to work harder to pump Na out. This leads to more Na/K atpases being made which means more atp is needed. More atp being needed mitochondria increase in # and size which requires more oxygen. So it’s not the increase in oxygen that leads to weight loss, it’s the increase in metabolism that leads to weight loss and increase in oxygen. Fatty acids can be used for energy after going through gluconeogenesis

    • @RA-om8ck
      @RA-om8ck ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DrEldersAnatomyChannel You are correct. Making the cell membrane more leaky to sodium and increasing the number of ATPase and mitochondria increases the rate of metabolism. Increasing the rate of metabolism leads to weight loss. Cold baths is one way of increasing the rate of metabolism.
