He was awful to his first two wives. he was in no position to criticise anyone else's marriage failures. Luckily, he seems to have mellowed with age and is happily married now, as are King Charles and Queen Camilla. Perhaps if Diana had worn a seatbelt, she would have remarried and even had more children. Who knows.
@@maxthecat14 Judging by the state of the car, I don’t think a seat belt would’ve made much difference. The sad truth is that the marriage of Charles & Diana should never have happened, and knowing he didn’t love her (he even cried on the eve of their wedding) he should’ve spoken up, and called it off.

@@hildeschmid8400 She had concussion and various injuries but cause of death was the chest injury (her heart was displaced, rupturing a pulmonary vein). Impact without a seat belt usually causes head injury (as passenger is thrown forward, the head collides with the head of the passenger in front, or the head restraint.) Hence concussion. But if violent enough maybe it could also have caused the chest injury. Otherwise, the chest injury (along with the laceration to her thigh) may have been caused by parts of the collapsing car itself, as the rear of the car appeared so badly crushed in the photos. So yes, it’s a possibility that wearing a seat belt may have saved her life. The survivor was the front passenger (bodyguard.) The main impact against the concrete pillar was on the drivers side. The car had head restraints protecting Rees Jones to the rear, his belt protected him from hitting the screen, and the frontal impact was on the other side. It was (for him) a fortunate combination of circumstances.
This makes total sense. I mean, he is Diana‘s brother! How shall he honor Chales & Camilla?
Werderina You honour the position, not the person, also why would he go anyway? He has no role to play. Not all the peers of the realm can go, so why would he?
Well he doesn’t honour his sister he didn’t honour his first wife while beating her black and blue he didn’t honour his father because he remarried after his wife left him which is ironic now. He didn’t honour his stepmother with the unbelievable nasty way he treated her so why would he honour anyone else?

It has been stated in the British tabloids that Diana and her brother were not very close. He lived in South Africa while she lived in London - that's not very close - William and Harry would periodically visit South Africa when they were young but after the death of their mother and the words Spenser spoke at her funeral against the royals their attitudes may have changed - just speculation on my part but not the part from the tabloids.

@@montecristo3697 It has been known for many years that the British tabloids did not ever answer to the royals - in fact the royals tried to enact controls on the tabloids without success. And forgive me - but having seen some of the stories in the British tabloids there obviously was no control possible by the royals. In fact - Diana pleaded with the tabloids to please leave her and her children alone and Charles himself even pleaded with the tabloids to do the same. Would the tabloids have obeyed a request had it come from the Queen herself - I doubt it very much - you have a very mean press system in Britain. Think back to how they beat up on the Queen when Diana died - they were screaming at her because she wasn't at Buckingham Palace - but she had a perfectly good reason and one I find very noble, a reason any mother/grandmother would appreciate had two young boys in their care lost their mother suddenly - she was trying to console and comfort her grandsons - something most reasonable people would want to do rather than be in the limelight.

To leave, let's say the concubine, Camilla, alone, we will serve up another one of our own. And Prince Harry and his black wife were fed to the tabloids. Even lies. (Meghan made Kate cry. Texts show that was a bona fide lie on that lady, with cooperation between the tabloids and the palace.) Anyway, what Camilla and Chuckie don't get is, it doesn't change the truth. Someone once said to me that grief continues to be painful until your ready to accept that the person your grieving has gone ..after losing mum and hurting for a long time i realised how true this statement was letting go is not easy
It takes time to accept that our loved ones are not here with us. We know we can't change this part of our life, it is painful. For each one of us grief and healing may be different. It is good to have family and friends and trust in God or what you believe.

Grief does not go away, you learn to live with it. I think of my son. When there is any news about Harry or the rest of the family, I always think of Diana.
Ive always said that grief doesnt get easy you just learn to live with it. Ive lost 2 husbands and a son, my first husband a brain tumor, my 2nd in a hotel fire and my son due to a rare heart condition, but i must say after all that iam doing well. Family and good friends are a life saver.

During the entire coronation I thought of Diana. What if.... And yes, when I see William I think of Diana because he looks so much like her. And when I see the two of them together I think of her. O, well, she was 1 year older then me. I grew up with her. So this will stay with me forever, I think.

I love Charles Earl Spencer, his books and interventions in shows about history. He looks like a very nice and interesting person. If he doesn't want to go to the coronation, he must have his reason.

@Hermanubis i've met Charles Spencer and he really is a lovely chap to chat to. I visited Diana's home and resting place last time back in the UK and he was there.I actually wrote him after Diana passed, and I told him I was still waiting for a reply 😅😅 He just laughed.

I too am from Canada. I lost my little Sister Diana too from BreastCancer..and so l think of Princess Diana and my own sister Diana. My sister and l were Very Close. She passed away the day before my birthday. May they both RIP.

He stated he didn’t want to allow her a home in the park due to what would have created unnecessary crowds of people, he feared no privacy for his children, but her offered her hundreds of other homes to chose from, just not the one she have wanted .

Yes but he turned his sister down when she asked to come back to live at the family home Althorp..at the time saying he didn't want the media intrusion it would bring. But he runs his estate now with the money that he gets from having Diana there...from souvenir sales and tea shop and public tours. I'm not a big fan of his.

She needed help and absolutely should have been allowed to go back to her family home. Where else was she supposed to go? He made a poor decision, but you can’t go back in time. It's a patriarchal thing that keeps the property in the hands of the men and so even modern women have to struggle and figure out where they are going to live when they find themselves in an abusive (whether physically or mentally abusive) marriage.
He should have allowed here to come back home. Perhaps, she would still be alive today but with different people around her.

They were both young and dealing with a lot of individual personal issues which neither understood. Now, I think Charles would be the first to say that he had no idea how to support or empathise with Victoria’s situation. He did, in his own way try but he didn’t have the skills or knowledge back then. It is also not easy living with someone with an eating disorder and other serious issues that affect day to day living. Charles did not have the best parental role models which, of course, played a part in his understanding of relationships. Between poor parental modelling and being sent a boarding school at a young age, which creates a myriad of emotional and developmental problems, at that stage in his life he simply wasn’t emotionally equipped navigate an intimate relationship and family life.
So glad to have found this interview. The Rabbit Hole Detectives is my absolute favorite. ❤

Every time I see Prince George's face I think of Charles Spencer. I see so much of Diana's brother, perhaps her father too, in him.
Interesting. I always thought George looks like Princess Catherine’s father, Michael Middleton. But that is the fun of kids to see these different characterizations as they grow up.

because he also made mistakes and one need not hold people to mistakes, instead mature and grow by learning from them and hopefully learn to forgive others and ourselves, why hold one person to a standard that one cannot achieve for themselves. Prince Charles had an affair with a married woman he ended up marrying, King David did same with Bath Sheba, he turned back to GOD, asked for forgiveness, and Solomon his son built the Temple. That was in the bible, so I guess King David is a great example of learning from mistakes, making redress and turning back to GOD
The king treated Diana a damn sight better than Spencer did his first wife beating her black and blue. Marriages break down it’s a fact of life! Diana was no picnic to live with. Ask yourself why Charles seeked affection elsewhere and stop judging the man!
If history prevails, the men in the house of Windsor haven’t enjoyed as long of life as the women. Charles is the oldest man to be coronated. “Long Live the King” may be the sentiment, but reality tells me his reign will be short and William will be King before his 50th birthday, I’m willing to bet.
Charles is not a man of honour nor his wife . They should have stepped aside .too many skeletons too many political issues interference. William is of age ,he should have stepped aside .never in all history has an adulterous king married his mistress and made her his queen . There's no real reason for Earl Spencer to be involved with the coronation. Even though William and Harry are his nephews, the relationship may not be close. I believe Diana's legacy is good in many ways, but she did cause problems and cannot undo them. This man should just live a good life, it's what we all should spend our time doing.
Any “problems” diana caused were because at that time, the royal family was stodgy and she was married to a man who wanted to be another woman’s “tampon.”
But, he did promise to be there for his “blood family”. I guess it was just a show.
But I can guarantee God willing if Earl Spencer is still alive when William is crowned he will be there because his nephew will be the King Of England.

I must say this is very affirming to listen to, for a man who did go a bit balmy with grief at the loss of my beloved male partner eight years ago and who is also attempting to follow the Christian path. Thank you Richard and I am sorry for your loss and you too Charles. Age does not weary them.

I understand Charles Spencer had a very close relationship with William and Harry as they were growing up - It is will known that King Charles III and the Queen Consort Camilla are on the Earl's his hate list so it would be interesting to know what if any feelings he has towards Harry's wife since he was so close to Harry and his feelings toward Harry. I honestly do not understand British society nor how the royal thing works - it is almost to me like a farm full of animals some of which get along while others attack - can someone explain all the different positions, titles, roles, do or do not interrelate?

@@FABOL1801 Diana was a royalist. She was not a Meghan Markle. Her son was going to be King and her grandson will also be a King. Diana had a very good relationship with the Queen and Prince Philip as well as Princess Anne. Her issues were with her husband - and from all I've heard/read, there were two sides to that story.

The British TV commentators of the funeral all commented about his very harsh words regarding the royals - especially with the Queen sitting in the first seat. Did he not say also say that William and Harry were his "blood family" and he would "protect" them which was a pretty arrogant statement since it was the seed of Diana's husband Charlies that gave life to William and Harry ( and there has always been rumor/gossip about the color of Harry's hair - since there was no red hair in the family line of the Spencers or the royals.) This story has been contradicted by Diana’s brother himself. The house she wanted on the property was 100 yards from the road and couldn’t be secured. Diana was being continually stalked by the press from all over the world. According to her brother she turned down the other houses he offered her. She wouldn’t have been protected at Althorp. Reporters would have been hiding in all the bushes all the time. It was unrealistic of her to want to live there. All of this info is online. You can find it for yourself.

This many times married and divorced man, who persuaded his sister to do the interview with Martin Bashir and didn’t provide her with a safe haven on his estate when she really needed it, is a total hypocrite. I couldn’t care less wither he goes or not but I hate him making money out of his link with Diana. Who would know him it wasn’t for her connection to the Royal Family?

I blame Diana’s family for the mismatched union of Charles and Diana. You cannot force someone to love another. He was forced into the union. Diana was too young, too naive, too inexperienced and too emotionally damaged to handle that role.
Her family desperately need the powerful Royal connection. They tried and failed with her older sister, so they threw Diana to the wolves.
