Being Asian and living in Kenya, there was always the fear of what happened in Uganda could easily happen to us. Luckily we had more sensible leadership in Kenya.
The Indian community in Uganda still racist to many Africans, they may employe a lot of Ugandans but they are poor employers, bad pay, almost zero workers rights, so though the the Indian expulsion was tragic, it gave Ugandans Cultural, economic n social esteem. So my humble suggestion to Indian community in Uganda, if you want to be Indian-Uganda, with representatives in the parliament too, reach out to the everyday uganda, beyond them just being a market or workers to you, allow intermarriages, there has to b a cross culture for societies to melt and grow together.

This is currently going on in the current regime. Even a lot worse. All the infrastructure, from the airport to main hospitals were put in place by Amin and Obote’s regimes at the time. Now all rundown to the point when power cuts happen. Some hospitals don’t have enough fuel for generators, backup generators don’t work and on many occasions some hospital lack medicine and equipment. The reason why there was employment during the regime is because the population was way smaller but it doesn't indicate that the economy was healthy actually people were mostly working in the civil service and the private sector was almost non existent. I don't know why I never hear anyone mention that the expelt Asians by Amin were compensated first and Amin was not the initiator of Asian community but just fulfilled the resolution of then East African community. Jomo kenyatta Nyerere and Obote had this vision but failed to bring it to light and they were happy for the move by Amin and non ever criticised this act because they wanted it like yesterday.
There was no compensation. they left empty handed, not a penny to their names. It was pure and simple theft. A case of why are they so successful (by the way not all were rich or successful) I want it all but won't work for it so I will steal it from them and because Idi had the authority he did and messed up the economy. The Asians had to start from scratch with whatever they had.

Idi sold a dream to the Ugandans. Sadly Uganda is still suffering due to his reign. He claimed that he wanted the best for Uganda but it was really for himself and those who followed him. if you disagreed you were killed. he had one of his wives murdered and chopped up and then sown up again for all to see. His opponents were tortured to death. He caused a lot of political tension in East Africa. Many Ugandans fled to Kenya and Tanzania. Two of my teachers in school were Ugandan. Being Asian and living in Kenya, there was always the fear of what happened in Uganda could easily happen to us. Luckily we had more sensible leadership in Kenya.

The Indian community in Uganda still racist to many Africans, they may employe a lot of Ugandans but they are poor employers, bad pay, almost zero workers rights, so though the the Indian expulsion was tragic, it gave Ugandans Cultural, economic n social esteem. So my humble suggestion to Indian community in Uganda, if you want to be Indian-Uganda, with representatives in the parliament too, reach out to the everyday uganda, beyond them just being a market or workers to you, allow intermarriages, there has to b a cross culture for societies to melt and grow together.
Sounds like a threat. Everything you said is about economics, what is stopping africans from doing better? They should have representatives in parliament simply cause they pay taxes and contribute to the country and because they are citizens of the country. Their unique culture must be respected, the fault clearly lies with you from your own language. You are asking them to abandon their culture. This entire post screams of racism while what you yourself wrote about indians doesn't at all sound racist.

This is currently going on in the current regime. Even a lot worse.
All the infrastructure, from the airport to main hospitals were put in place by Amin and Obote’s regimes at the time.
Now all rundown to the point when power cuts happen. Some hospitals don’t have enough fuel for generators, backup generators don’t work and on many occasions some hospital lack medicine and equipment.
The current leadership only has the following to show for: single lane roads and peace. The minimal basics in development and shit loads of corruption among the dictator’s family and friends.
Idi Amin genuinely loved Uganda, the problem is that he was semi illiterate and did things like an 18th century chief.

Idi Amin was patriotic. There is no rule where innocent and non innocent people unfortunately die. But the Asian community treated the indigenous people like second class citizens and still do in some areas. But Ugandans having travelled a lot, they no longer accept some behavior. Sorry to the Asian community but they were collateral.
Now they have went. It doesn't matter who owns what. Indians existed even before uganda existed. They had much of say as any ugandan in forming the nation. I hope there is peace between the communities.

The reason why there was employment during the regime is because the population was way smaller but it doesn't indicate that the economy was healthy actually people were mostly working in the civil service and the private sector was almost non existent. I think it's very foolish to think that the economy in Amin's regime was better and a person who thinks like that is not analytical which makes him/her vulnerable to opposition's selfish agenda hence being used for that matter.
By history, he was optimistic to citizens' needs and loved his country as well. We would love him soooo muuuch.
