The economic value and enhanced morale of the nation which came from making Ghana "the attraction of West Africa" was of a riches that was truly felt far and wide. May His Excellency rest in serene peace.
Ghana owes its peace, economic recovery and stability to this man. The current crop of politicians looting the country's scarce resources were all based in the west when things were tough and everything was down but rushed down after this man stabilised the country. He was an Icon. RIP

Growing up in Lagos in the 80s, we had lots of teachers from Ghana. I remember "Uncle Peter" very fondly. Wherever they may be today I pray they and their families are prospering and in good health.

my mother God rest her soul all ways talk to us when we were little my sisters and my about my great great grandmother she was told that her great grandmother was stolen from Asante tribe and brought to Jamaica story told is that she was a beautiful princess while she was going through puberty the young women had to go through something while going through they were caught and put on a ship when she reach the Caribbean slavery was almost abolished she got the tail end of it I heard that she was brave they tried everything to break her but she had the spirit of the eagle right up until she was 103 years old I heard she died with her 32 teeth intact in her mouth and her mind clear as crystal to my Asante sis

Rawlings was a good man, I remember when he came I was a nurse at okomfo anokye teaching hospital. After hard day work. We the nurses will be giving priority for essential commodity s,simply the stores will be holding the goods, Ghana has to be proud of him he really did a good job may God bless him. We need People like Jerry R who will carry out policy of political cleansing throughout Nigeria and Africa especially in Nigeria my parents country. See the state of the economy of the countries, poor quality of life, poverty-stricken conditions, lack of basic nessarary things of life. With the abundance of resources both human resources and natural resources. I can remember a lot of Ghanaians fled to Nigeria living virtually as "refugees" just surviving on the streets to make a living. Most did very low paying jobs but relatively few of them became our teachers and they contributed one way or the other into Nigerian society then. Unfortunately, a stupid civilian regime in the early 1980s in Nigeria declared that Ghanaians should leave Nigeria. That's where the term "Ghana Must Go" came from. Until now we wish someone could do in Nigeria what Rawlings did in Ghana but that is virtually almost impossible now. Nigeria has reached the point of no return and gone over the slippery slope. Sometimes I envy Ghana as a country because someone was able to do something to save your country from going over the cliff. Please keep watch over your politicians and political system like eagles. There is still a long way to go. Life is interesting, because now Nigerians "run" to Ghana to make a living. Maybe some day we would be able to "save" Nigeria from the vultures that are currently controlling the polity and resources. That journey is about starting in 2019 when younger generation of Nigerians with a saner way of thinking will start contesting in elections. It's a long shot but a step in right direction.

The Ghana must go is a retaliation. Nigeria hasn’t always been super. Back in the late 50s and 60s, Ghana was the economic super power of the sub region, thousands of Nigerians flooded in to Ghana at the time, it was then the Ghanaian government at the time came up with the foreign compliance law sending Nigerians in particular back to their country in 1967.
What happened in the 80s was simply retaliatory just that it hurt Nigeria at the time particularly their educational system which had great tutors from Ghana.
I remembered seeing a lot Ghanaians in Lagos in the 1980s. The are very hardworking, honest and friendly people.
You can't take away the fact that the white blood him played a big role in his selfless service to Ghana.

Hello John Grant! Jerry Rawlings to me, is one in a million. Is very seldom to hear, or see, that an African leader, used his own money to establish a University. Because of those students, who had to travel for two hours; before they arrived at their places of learning.
