    As many had already mentioned, you need to press the by-pass button on that GB40 if you want to crank the engine on a completely flat/dead battery. If you open the door and still see interior lights on, then you don’t have to “bypass” safety.

    As a mechanic of twenty years I want to clarify the reason you connect the positive leads first. The entire vehicle metal structure is the return path or ground for current flow. When you connect the negative cable first you increase your chances of creating an arc by accidently touching the body of the car with the positive lead that can cause an explosion if the battery still emitting hydrogen as a byproduct of charging a lead acid battery. Keeping this in mind when you disconnect the battery it should always be the negative lead first. Also, if you are every working around an ancient conventional wiring system i.e. red lead to ground then you would do the opposite of this procedure to be safe. I appreciate the info about the jumper batteries I've been eyeing one myself.

      The power flows out of the negative terminal and back into the positive terminal.

      You can't create a spark with these...They have protection built in...
      And had he used the bypass feature of the NOCO.. He would have started it in no time flat....Maybe they should read the instructions. As I started 6 liter diesel with a GB40....

      @@WizzRacing this is what I was just thinking. The noco gb40 is rated 3lt diesel. What size is the jeep? Like you say the guy never mentioned the by pass feature so either he is thick and doesn't know about it when he owns 2 models or he is on the pay role from the other model

      So the GB40 jumped the 5.7L? I also have 5.7L Charger am on the fence with the GBX45 (as stated it should be good up to 6.5L)... but after this video, do not really know if i should skip the GBX45 and go for larger size.

    There is a red button (exclamation point) on the NOCO that overrides the safety system and lets you boost a battery that has less than 2 amps of power. If you press that button for a couple of seconds, the lights will come on and you can boost a car with a dead battery. I have the G B40 and it works fine.

    I have a GB70 and it has saved me several times... I wasn't going to waste my time with the GB40, solely because of the battery size... I have even jumped completely dead batteries and other people's batteries... The GB70 is the best buy out of all of those in my opinion... The GB70 also holds a charge for a very long time...

    I bought the gb40 for my daughter's corolla, she has not needed to use it yet. But has jumped a handful of friends and always worked as advertised. Zero complaints. p.s. always buy when there on sale.

    i think if you push the red button on the GB40 it does a power override thing and it will actually give you all the power instead of just some of it. Try that and see if it changes your opinion of the product at all.

    U have 2put the GB40 on bypass when the battery is absent or really low. Ours woks just fine.

    Maybe you have tested the GB40 before this video but otherwise, you can't say it doesn't work when you didn't try once to check if it just was due to a bad connection. Adjusting the clamps and then try again maybe will get a better result. There are lots of amps going through so just a slightly poorly clamped connection will fail the starting test.

    I’ve had my GB 40 for a few years now I have started cars that were totally dead or no battery at all. If you have a fully dead battery all you have to do is hit the bypass switch on the GB40 to give it full power. Instructions come with this unit on how to operate when jumpstarting a fully dead battery also if you go on their website they do show you a video on the proper operating procedures for the GB 40.

      Most of these reviews of the NOCO have not read the instructions. I have started my Cherokee several times with a GB40 on one charge. It also says to let the unit charge your vehicle battery before you try to start if the battery is dead.

      Yea I didnt see him hit the full power button? It's usually a 2 sec hold and then it begins flashing like that unless they did it off cam

      No, because the GB40 was on because the battery had more than 2 volts. It makes zero difference.

    I recently bought the GOOLOO 1500A Peak 20800mAh SuperSafe Car Jump Starter with USB Quick Charge 3.0 (Up to 8.0L Gas, 6.0L Diesel Engine) 12V Auto Battery Booster Portable Charger Power Pack Built-in Smart Protection and I am extremely happy with it so far. It is rated at Starting current 500a(3s), 400a(5s). My daily driver is a 2010 Ford Escape with a 3 liter. I purposely drained the battery completely dead and it started it with no issues at -20c. The battery was warm(it is a new battery so I did not want to ruin it leaving it dead outside overnight) but the vehicle was not plugged in at -20c. That is all I need.

    Interested if you wait 30 secs after you connect GB40 you try starting? Manual says some cars require 30 secs followed by another 30 secs.

    One that I've used for about a year now is SCOSCHE PBJ700-1 PowerUp 700 Portable Car Jump Starter with 15,000 mAh 700A Portable Battery, Dual USB Ports and Built-in LED Flashlight for use with Vehicles, Boats, Motorcycles or ATV/UTV’s. I don't mean this to be an ad for it, but It works great for my Jeep grand Cherokee. Granted, it's only a 6 cylinder, but it starts it from a damn near dead battery instantly. Surprised me the first time I used it at how well it did. Supposedly, it handles 8 cylinders also, but never had the chance to test that. It would start my jeep 5 or 6 times before even getting down to 50% charge. Haven't had to use it for about 4 monthes now, but it still shows all 4 bars of charge after sitting in the back of the jeep all this time.
    Looks like there are few of these out there that don't stack up. Glad I made the right choice for mine.

    I bought the Type S from Costco mainly for my 4-stroke snowmobile. -30C here yesterday morning, the brand new battery wouldn’t crank the sled fast enough so I hooked the type s up. 2 slow cranks then all of a sudden it cranked much faster and started right up! The display indicated 99% power left, again this was on a brand new fully charged battery that couldn’t crank the snowmobile fast enough to start in -30C. Also compact enough to carry in my small storage bag on the sled. Type S is rated 200-400AMP 8000mAH at 3.7V. My sled is a ZR7000 fwiw.

    When you used the GB40, you should have press and hold the ! button to activate the max power mode. It will definitely have enough power to start.

    I have a GB 40 and it works well. I have used it in parking lots to help people start. Maybe here in the UK most cars are under 2.5 Ltr. It starts my 2.2 landrover, works for me

    Old video, but I was able to start my 4.0 grand Cherokee several times over with no battery installed in the vehicle and the GB40 started the vehicle with sorta slower than average cranking speed but still popped right off. Kinda odd that it wasn’t able to start this 4.0 in the video

    Thanks for the video. 9:45 I believe the 19V is for laptops as this is still a very common power supply voltage for laptops. Interesting to see the GB40 fail. Other videos show great results vith this item but even the GB70 brick did not crank it over any better than the small iClever. I will try a Supercap battery-less starter . It is true that the livespan and the tolerances of LiPo batteries are not so great and this may also be the reason for very different results with this very popular GB*** NOCO units.

      I doubt he did that on the video, but I suspect he would have known about the feature, but the disappointing end result would have been the same due to the flaw in the circuitry design.

    I have a BESTEK 600A Peak, got it on amazon about 5 years ago.. it was the best price and had good reviews.. I used it about 6 times. Worked every time on my 2004 rav4. I had a parasitic power drain and i had to use my booster for almost a full week each morning until i could figure out the issue.. Love it.. plus the added flashlight and usb ports are nice..power went out last week and used it to charge my cell phone! As for the genius, it always had mixed reviews even 5 years ago.. Cheers

      We have a red Bestek and it is used mostly for phones because it is such a small size, but it does also perform well starting cars.

    I have a rather large older jump box with none of the bells and whistles these units have. I've had it for almost 10 years with no issues to date. The only way to recharge it is by plugging it into a 110V outlet which takes about 1 1/2 hours to fully charge but holds the charge for a long period of time between jumps. I live in a very cold environment during the winter months here in northeastern Vermont and has never let me down where CCA's are king! Thanks for sharing. Cheers!

      @@boosted2.4_sky Actually, I keep it in my F-350 Super Duty, inside a bolted down tool box in the extended cab area. behind my seat. I removed the jump seats just for a large interior tool box since I never transport passengers.

      @Gregg Sinini I bought the Audew based off of Project Farm's testing. It started my 6.6L Duramax in the cold without issue. Turned out I had a bad alternator diode, which has been fixed. The truck would be dead if left to sit for more than 12 hours. Audew battery showed 98% after it started it. 10/10 would recommend.

    Use it correctly, and the Noco 40 will do what you need it to do. But I second, that the drawbacks of having the 70 (or in my case the GTX75) are so small, that it's just not worth going for the small one. Both fit easily in any trunk, but one of them will work even after being used a couple of times or after being forgotten in the trunk for a year, or if the connections are not optimal. Most importantly, one of them can't loose the leads, whereas the other probably won't have them if you need it, since someone used it as a powerbank and dropped the leads somewhere.

    Was going to buy a jump starter from Harbor Freight. Saw a bad review of it from Project Farm. Have a couple questions:
    1. How does these starters compare to other non lithium ion chargers?
    2. Saw someone use a starter in an auction for 100 cars. Is this one a different really high end expensive model?
    3. How does the charger compare to just jumping with another car?
    4. If harbor freight starter is not good, where should I buy one, that’s cheap.

    I got one and they work great, way better than a lead-acid battery or charger. I got the BEATIT B10 QDSP 800A and it starts my truck with no problem. Another great thing is they are lightweight and can be taken along on camping and canoe trips to recharge lights, phones, etc.

    Is it really drawing in power to the lithium batteries once the engine is running? I would really assume theres some kind of diode or protection to prevent that if it was harmful to the batteries

      All the instructions tell you to remove them as soon as the engine is running. For me, I do not want to take the chance of anything going back and screwing with the lithium batteries.

    The dude said these are usually good for two years. I have a PowerNow jumper that I think is 3 or 4 years old now. Should I be worried about replacing it soon? It still works provided it's charged up.

      I have a Hulkman 85s which is rated down to -40 The digital readout is so much nicer than just a few leds.

    A little tip which worked for me. My battery was dead as a dodo. My jump starter pack would not work unless I disconnected the leads ....hooked up to only the leads and then turned the key. Once car is started carefully replace leads to battery and you are good to go. These units will only work hooked up to the battery, if there is a slight charge left in the battery.

    I’ve watched a couple other videos that show you have to push the boost over ride button if the battery is to low, it’s the “!” button. Maybe that’s why it won’t work for you.

      Personally, I would do the Noco GB70. It is a fair amount of money, but reliable. You could also look for 2500 mAh ones of different brands.

    Interestingly my GB40 NOKO works perfect two times I needed:::: on a five year old Interstate , 4:CYL GMC ENGINE AT SOME 20 BELOW ZERO OUTSIDE( NOKO was in 45 DEG Garage= quick start. AND, a second start on Discharged headlights battery in ten year small v8= instant start ( after spooling up,for few seconds).. I run NOKO , XOMPUTER USB CHARGE EVERY YEAR or TWO.. anyways, prob need second Starter in second Vehicle someday, thanks,

    I've used an older lead acid power pack with a built in 12V accessory socket for years to power a small air compressor used for tire maintenance. I need to replace the power pack and was wondering if this newer type of device would work in this application. I realize that these devices are intended to provide a sudden rush of current over a short period of time to crank an engine but what if I needed a smaller amount of current over a longer period of time ? Most of the 12V air compressors require a running time close to 10 minutes. I'd also like to know if the accessory socket included with the iClever is actually a 12V output source ?

      These packs are able to put out 12-volt over a period of time, but are much better are a higher amp short duration output. It could run a compressor if needed. You will tell by the heat and the battery life over time if it is going to work long term. I have no experience with them other than starting cars and charging phones.

    My car dealer uses the GB 40 several times a day to start cars, I bought one and have had great luck with it. When you turned the light on I didn't see anything was yours charged up for the test?

    Is it safe to storage a Noco GB40 fully charged in the glove comparment? I am afraid it could be dangerous in hot environments

      How hot? It is just as dangerous in the glove compartment as it would be in the trunk. The fumes of a bulged battery would fill a car no matter where it is stored. A fire is either place would also be pretty bad. What I am saying, make sure that you keep the item within heat specs and it wont matter where it is.

    I see plemty of vids on the 40 showing it works great . One guy had a truck with a complete dead batt that was sitting 6 months and the 40 started it . Sooooo

      @@mike7044863 That funny. You need to do a little more watching. Unhooking the battery is the only way to mimic a fully dead battery. Hence, it will not work on a fully dead, or even a battery with one bad cell like the one in my jeep in this video. Doing my best to be truthful here. Maybe I have a bad GB40, but IMHO, it is worth buying the GB70 or something else.

    If I filing any product that makes false statements on their packages I wouldn't buy their product line at all even if they made a good one. Ashole companies like that. That got me skeptical buying any of these. I'm in the market for one of these or maybe one over the larger ones. Thanks for taking the time

      I have left mine in my SxS for over a year without charging it and it still was at 75% charge.

    I just use an M12/12v or even in a pinch use an m18/20vMAX battery pack from a tool kit. Relatively simple for people who are carrying tools or have tools around them. I could see those packs for the "average joe" who may not have tool batteries around them or just the normal consumer.

      Get a clore ES5500 last for 8+ years can leave in car all the time charge 1x a year and is ready when you need it and cost 120.00 These tiny ones are more apt to fail and since you charge phones with them etc its more likely to be dead when you need. And these don't put out as much current as the larger ones and only last 2 years.

    I bought a GB40 first unit was not working for me contacted customer service and received a replacement. So far so good. Also if the batteries to low hold down the I button it goes into some type of mode not sure of the name The unit starts blinking and it works with no problem

    Thanks for covering these not-inexpensive, highly optional tools! I was ready to order a NOCO GB40 based on Kilmer's rec, and then watched Project Farm test a bunch of these and the GB40 was an extremely poor performer. Is it quality control that has some people swear by it and yet one could fail so miserably? Is Kilmer's location in hotter-then-hell Houston a factor in its good performance? Who knows. I saved $20 and bought a different brand.

      You have to be careful with TH-cam reviews. Many things could make it look better. It could be a custom made review sample or could be he's being paid for the review. I usually look for multiple reviews to confirm it. I watched Project Farm and found this one.

      @@calvinwalker4654 NOCO delivers exactly what they promised, you just have to understand what they actually promised ... Once upon a time, Anker made a car jumper that actually perform double the specs, but they have since quited the business. Really sad.

      Anyway, there was a myth that you can estimate cranking amp as half the peak. Anker made one exactly like that. You can find more details in the one-and-only-real-jumper-review before Project Farm th-cam.com/video/DDob_VFrlPk/w-d-xo.html
      All tests shown that most jumpers deliver about 1/5 of the stated peak amp, except the old Anker. My guess is that peak is a simple math of theoretical max current based on how many lithium cells inside. Most off-brand-no-name Chinese jumpers either not list cranking amp, or exaggerate it to about 1/2 or 1/3 of the peak. Technically, that's a lie.
      If NOCO told the truth, no one would pay $99 for a jumper delivering 200 cranking amp. If they do what others did, they would be lying and can be sued as a US-based company. So the geniuses came up a clever way of saying 200 amp and print it right on the box. Apparently, most joe schmoes couldn't tell and bought the tough box image.
      There are only two real jumper reviews throughout TH-cam, if not the entire internet, you probably saw them both. So if money is no issue, get the GB70 and you should be good. If you haven't made to the 1%, get from a relatively well-known seller on Amazon, at least 1,500 peak amp, tons of good reviews, and not F on fakespot ... and it should start most cars south of Alaska

    I have a gb70. I managed to barely turn over an e-450 with a completely flat group 65 and the v10 motor. It was flat to the point the lights wouldn't race unless I turned off the safety on it. One big jump, and it took about 25% of the packs charge.
    I'm on the fence about a gb150 now.

    Micro-start XP-10 is one of the original ones. Underrated, start current is labeled as 300 amps, peak 600. But it starts diesel trucks

    In my opion when i buy things like these i go bigger than i will think i need. That way it works for my needs and i have something large enuff for helping someone else out if need. Keep all my basis covered. I have the NOCO GB 150 and love it. Starts my pickups which are gas and diesel in the winter time and also will jump my S300 bobcat when
    Its 40 below zero in the winter

    I had a GB 40 It worked until it was stolen. Then I got the GB 70. after 8 months it swelled like a balloon when I was charging it. I have since gotten a Tacklife T8 Max. It has USB charging, 12Volt output built in. So I got another. What does that say? See you NOGO!

    19 volts is for laptops and small tv's that use a "brick" voltage converter that converts 120 V AC to 19 V DC.

    This is already the second faulty GB40 I'm seeing on TH-cam. It's interesting how you, guys, get it. As for me, I've been using the GB40 for several years now and started various stranded cars with drained batteries, including my 3.7 V6 MDX one. Effortlessly.

      Acura Addicted- He's the SECOND reviewer I've seen to not use the GB40 correctly. Project Farm did the same thing in his review of the GB40, and DIDN'T hit the boost button. Reading the manual first helps, and secondly, intuition should kick in when you see a button with an exclamation point on it.. They are a safer product. Built well. GREAT customer service. Not saying that the other ones don't work, just observing two reviews where they fail to use the Noco correctly.

      My gb40 will start my 3.5L v6 like 6-7 times at least. I found out when my alternator failed. I could (and did) jump it over and over, but it wouldn't stay running, or go into drive and go anywhere. So these are great for dead batteries, but on a modern car with a bad alternator, you're still probably screwed. Albeit, you would probably have more warning of charging problems when an alternator is dying. DON'T assume it is the battery and that a booster will always get you home..

    i have the trekpow g22 now, started the 8.1 burb with the battery so dead the dome light wouldn't come on.. I had the noco before and threw it in the trash.

      Two reasons they dont cost for the copper wire lengths and in DC current the longer run the more amperage loss.

      @@AntonioClaudioMichael True it sucks, you can extend the wire lengths out with some good oxygen free copper in the thickest gauge probably #2 and 2 sets of splice connectors. www.amazon.com/Easy-Splice-Line-Splice-Connector-Range/dp/B07NWY2QD1. Just use good some good heat srink before adding the plastic covers on the splice points. Hope that helps some. :)

    The gb40 will easily crank a stone cold dead 6.0 liter Chevy 2500 HD. You just have to press the override button on a completely dead battery!

      Agree. The battery is completely dead and he purposely did not push the override button so that the jeep would not start on GB40. Obviously he is promoting iclever. Basically, blowing out someone's candle to make his shine brighter. Hahaha!

    I have an iClever, the next one bigger than that, and it has worked great the few times I've left my lights on.

      You should read the operating instructions on the Noco boosters before using. If the battery is lower than 2v you need to press and hold the override button for three seconds and then proceed. Instructions are not difficult to read.

    I will ask this to this forum, I'm certain someone knows this answer. On a colder NE colt snap, I jumped a friend's 6cyl SUV - No problem, so fine. Another gentleman from the same lot sees this, and as his car is dead, asks for me to jump is 1980s izusu trooper. I have NEVER seen a battery like this. The terminals were as thin as pencils and protruded from the rear. The clamps could barely get purchase on the posts, and I couldn't get this car started for the life of me. I engaged boost mode but stilll nothing. I wish I had a battery tester.
    Any idea what type of battery this was?

    I have a TackLife T6 which puts out 450 CCA for normal battery boosting and will provide 600 CCA if battery is completely drained and dead. Nice feature! Designed in Taiwan and made in China. American marketing hype and access to the North American advertising market has given jump-starters like the Genius NOCO way too much credit for a product that just performs so-so. I bought my TackLife T6 off Amazon so I could at least see some user reviews and with 4.5 STARS and +100 plus reviews it was worth it to give the TackLife T6 a try. The TackLife T6 performed great and build quality was top notch. Jump--starters are great to have around when you need a boost but make sure you check out the reviews before buying.

    They all work great on motorcycle batteries, which seem to be dead a lot more often. Must have for riders.
