- Welcome to Kanchipuram - A pilgrimage and a holy city in Tamil Nadu. In this episode of "History, Heritage, Festivals & Handlooms of India", I am taking you all to the weavers of authentic Kanjivaram saree. A Kanchipuram saree, also known as Kanjeevaram saree, is a luxurious and traditional silk saree that originates from Kanchipuram, a town in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Kanchipuram sarees are renowned for their rich silk texture, vibrant colors, and intricate zari work.
These sarees are crafted from pure mulberry silk, which is known for its fine quality and durability. The silk is sourced from South India, contributing to the authenticity of the saree. One of the distinctive features of Kanchipuram sarees is the elaborate zari work. Zari is metallic thread, often made of gold or silver, which is used to create intricate patterns, motifs, and borders on the saree.
Kanchipuram sarees are characterized by a contrasting border and pallu (the decorative end of the saree). The border is typically broad and adorned with intricate designs, while the pallu features grand zari work. The sarees often showcase traditional South Indian motifs such as peacocks, elephants, mangoes, and temple designs. These motifs add cultural significance to the saree.
Kanchipuram sarees are known for their sturdiness and longevity. The quality of silk used in their production, coupled with expert craftsmanship, ensures that these sarees can last for generations.
The unique weaving technique used in Kanchipuram sarees involves interlacing three silk threads with one zari thread. This weaving process gives the saree its characteristic texture and strength.
Wide Color Palette:
Kanchipuram sarees come in a wide range of colors, from vibrant hues to subtle pastels. The color combinations are carefully chosen to enhance the overall aesthetic appeal of the saree. Traditionally, Kanchipuram sarees are handwoven by skilled artisans. The weaving process is intricate and time-consuming, reflecting the dedication to preserving the craft. It received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag, recognizing them as a product with unique qualities and characteristics associated with the specific geographic region of Kanchipuram.

Now all ladies of my home could realise why Kanchipuram sarees are so costly 😃 ... really awesome sarees and deserve such prices.
Because of increasing gold rate
Because it is authentic, made by pure silk sari from silkworm and using gold, silver. Famous for handloom. This only made from from KANJIVERAM.
Tamilians are respect, love and support the person who come from outside. They are number one in heartful hospitality as you said.
Thank you. My wedding saree 40 years ago cost Rs 5000. Now probably the value is 1 lakh.
Wow lucky you..we can not buy even if we want to wear...😊1 lakh my god
5000rs 40 years ago was life-changing amount too
She's really good...respectful, soft spoken, non-intrusive and with just the right amount of information and commentary.
Your efforts are commendable. Though weavers of Kanchivaram aka Kanchipuram contribute hugely to the economy of the place, many still live in huge debts. Handloom sarees deserve more support. Thanks for portraying the skill so beautifully. Love from Tamilnadu.
Amazing effort from you & our Indian weavers. Now on I will appreciate my sarees much more.. . Thanks keep teaching us more about our local traditions & it's process & history..❤

Hello @preetievijay9610, how did you check for the authenticity of your sarees?
Exactly, what desi traveller shows in this video..kindly go through.
@@preetievijay9610 sorry to bother again . Is it “rubbing on the stone” test ?
@TheOnlineacc pallu aur body mei gap honi chahiye..aur agar gold thread used hai tho they provide a certificate of how much gold n where the gold thread is used.thats enough to know that our purchased kanjivaram is authentic.

Lovely video. Kudos to your effort!
Thanks for bringing up enrichment informational content through your recent video.❤
Thanku for such a knowledgeable video!
Outstanding efforts Priyanka ! Hats off !! Great documentary vlog i must say.
Great job ! By showing the weavers you are showing what India is all about. The artificial design sarees and so called designer sarees are reminiscent of the decay set it by the British rule. What's surprising though is that good travel vloggers like you, also don't care to learn the local language and expect everyone to know English and Hindi .Kudos to the weavers and others who speak Hindi.
Very beautiful blog for saree lover, this type of video show the authentic traditional cultural of India. ❤
Mam..not traditional culture of India...it is Tamil Nadu....pls..mind it..

Here you will find the most beautiful and unique range of Kanchipuram latest Pattu sarees woven with the finest zari work and embellishment. Explore our regal ... The worldwide famous the kanjipuram silk sarees. Really very nice your video and thanks for the visit
Di appreciate your effort
Nice video, beautiful art of making extraordinary looking sarees made from real gold, silver, this art is still alive. Silk making is not done here, but saw it elsewhere, it involves dropping silk worms in their cocoons into boiling water so that the thread stays as one long string, due to this inhumane reasons I stay away from silk. There is another method, silk derived strictly from plants, but it is very expensive. If they can make same sarees using cotton, nylon, rayon or some other man made material, they probably look just as good.
Very nice information madam ❤
Nice didi. Very hard working made sarees.
