These short impromptu videos are done via Facebook LIVE and then uploaded to TH-cam. I do them occasionally before I cook a meal because many of you have asked me to. I do not have recipes for these because I am not using recipes, I make them up as I go along. I would like you to learn technique rather than recipes and enjoy the taste of simple, whole natural foods. If you have any leftover veggies or grains you can repurpose them and just add them as I did. And it all starts with an onion. And it's even good cold. Enjoy!!!
If you prefer written recipes I have 3 books you might enjoy.
Thank you for watching my video. If you like what you see, please subscribe and never miss a recipe / chefaj

I love the way you make things so simple, Chef AJ. I was re-watching your 'meals to make you slim' video last night. I had forgotten how easy it should be: eating from the 'plant plate' of vegetables, fruits, whole grains and legumes. Water. Unprocessed herbs and spices. And eating - if possible - within a window of time. I am now visualising the plant plate and asking myself if the food or drink I want to consume fits into one of the four quadrants, or into the drink category. This video is another example of how easy food can be. I'm glad you posted it because I was wondering how to fit in a kilo of green veg per day and at least 500 grams for breakfast! Thank you.

And Trader Joe's are only in the wealthy areas of town.

Hi Chef AJ. I understand the concept of not eating breakfast until one gets hungry, however, this is difficult to do for the average working person. We usually have to be at work by a certain time and have a scheduled lunch hour and must wait to eat until this schedule permits. So if I didn’t eat my breakfast before work, I may not get a chance to eat until my lunch hour and by that time I feel weak and ravenous if I haven’t eaten breakfast. So the concept May work for those who work from home or who are retired but not for the rest of us.

Everyone has to adapt to their own situation and their own needs. In certain workplaces, I would have snacks or even breakfast when I needed, regardless of what my coworkers were doing. I needed to do what I needed to do to feel at my best, and that meant eating, drinking, and going to the bathroom when needed. No one ever questioned me about it. And if they did, I was prepared to say that I needed to make sure my blood sugar was stable and I was well hydrated. I know not everyone can do that, but everyone needs to work within the constraints they have. And at the same time, my boss or coworkers don't get to live in my shoes and deal with maintaining my health. I will be the one living in my own skin when my bosses or coworkers are long gone.

I was in same situation but just looked at it as a fast and after just a few days my body adjusted to not eating until 12-1 pm. That does fit with most peoples “lunch” hour but it is my first meal of day. I’ve been doing it for over a year and I’m not hungry until noon or so. I workout in the morning, cardio and weights, and work for a few hours before I ever eat. Just try it for a couple of days and see how it feels. If you make it past the first few days your body starts adjusting and you should be fine. Hope this helps. It worked for me.

Yes - baby steps can help to ease you in also, if intermittent fasting is something that will work. For the original poster - you could even eat earlier at night so there is a larger window before work the next morning. Also, you can play around with going for longer before you have to eat on your off days. For instance - Friday night stop eating around 7pm and then wait until 9am to eat (14 hour fast)...then increase to 10am on Sunday. You can play around with it on off days until you feel like you've mastered it - then try to incorporate into your week when you're feeling more confident. It does take getting used to. Even going one meal to another meal without snacking (and feeling weak) is something that I thought I never could do and I was able to do it! I am also impressed that I can intermittent fast for 16 hours. It gets easier as the diet gets more and more cleaned up. I would definitely start with whole, plant-based foods first and worry about intermittent fasting when you have things totally under control with what we're eating. Best wishes!

Absolutely amy I took for granted the whole food plant based. That’s the starting point for anyone. I’ve been doing this for just over a year and have lost 100lbs and got rid of most of my symptoms that I was experiencing. As it relates to intermittent fasting, for me, was less than 3 weeks in I had completely gotten over the cravings and that has helped with me not getting hungry in between meals. WFPB is really the answer.
