  • Chef AJ describes the concept of calorie density, the concept that all the leading plant-based doctors want patients to understand in order to achieve effortless, long-lasting weight loss. By focusing on calorie dilute foods, you can achieve your optimum lean weight and maintain it for life.
This is a short excerpt from Chef AJ's talk, "The Secrets to Ultimate Weight Loss" from the 2016 Healthy Lifestyle Expo. The entire talk -- plus 13 more -- is available on DVD or for instant download at: store.vegsourc...

I appreciate you so much Chef AJ! I saw you at the So Cal Veg Fest. I was waiting for someone and saw you...and called out to you. You were so kind and asked me to walk with you so we could talk more. I said I couldn't because I was was afraid that I wouldn't be there for the person I had been waiting for. I've regretted that ever since. The person never showed and I missed a great opportunity. You were the first TH-cam personality I had binge watched when I became vegan and didn't have any vegan friends. Thank you for all you've done and are doing! I appreciate your knowledge and willingness to share it.

Thanks Chef AJ. The pictures really help explain the theory of calorie density. I never liked juicing, I am particular about texture and don't want to drink my food as long as I have teeth. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that doesn't want to juice everything to be healthy! When I'm older and don't have any teeth left I'll juice lol.

I love listening to her because she is a hoot! I do not do well on starches so this is not for me. I am mostly vegetarian but starches do a number on me. I can do beans alone and I sprout them before cooking. Not all Asians are healthy. Some groups of Asians cook their veggies to death and eat fatty meat along with the rice. They get kidney diseases very early among other issues.

Putting this into practice is the hard part.
Who can afford to eat 7 to 10 pounds of food a day, a pound of food cost betweent 1.50, 2.00 and up. the exception is potatoes that is now climbing in price, around .80 where I live, so, if I ate a bag of 5 pounds of potatoes a day, that would be 4.00 a day, or 120.00 a month and that isn't including fruit and greens.
10 pounds of food(potatoes) is $8. per day, or 300.00 per month, not including high price greens, and fruits.
I don't know about the rest on fixed incomes, but I can't afford to eat 7-10 lbs per day
    when my check is 800.00

Buy bulk grains and beans, scavenge fruit from city trees, start a garden, join a coop or a community garden. Try container gardening. Do you eat meat and dairy? Do you buy any beverages-soda, alcohol, juice? These cost way more than frozen veg. The other thing you can do, that is absolutely free, is walking. Aim to walk 5-6 miles a day. Do what you can. Work up to it.

There are dozens of varieties of green beans. Green beans are the most widely planted bean type. Green beans include the haricot vert, scarlet runner bean, winged, and yard-long bean. Snap beans are not always green. They can also be yellow or purple. Yellow snap beans are sometimes called wax beans for their waxy color.
These are all non starchy vegetables and do fit into this category... always some narcissist in the audience trying to make others feel bad about themselves by some perceived error in the presentation. If Chef Aj was talking about the starchy varieties of beans she would of put them on a different chart. Grow some manners and stop trying to project your lack of knowledge on others.

Hi AJ. I follow Dr Michael Gregor and Dr Neal Barnard and have turned to a plant based lifestyle. I have been watching you during the current pandemic and am grateful for the fabulous interviews you have brought to us. However, sometimes you confuse me! In this video you advise against blending or juicing kale. I agree. But, in the video I watched yesterday, you blended dates!! This I don’t get. Also, you talk about being intolerant to legumes and soy. You tell us what we should eat, but, what do you eat? I’m fascinated to know please. Purple sweet potato and broccoli are two foods I have heard you share on numerous occasions. What else? Sweet potato fries, albeit done in an air fryer, are high sugar but you dip them in non peanut, peanut sauce which you have blended with dates. Why is this not high sugar too? I understand that you don’t add sugar, but I don’t see how you are sugar free (SOS) or sugar free (SOFAS). Would you please make a video about what you choose to eat on a weekly basis. I have lived with someone who limited their food to very few whole foods and I came to see this as orthorexia. Please tell me you eat more than sweet potatoes and broccoli? In fact, please tell me that you eat more than vegetables? I feel inspired to improve my health with a plant based whole grain diet but I also see so much eating disordered behaviour coming out of this. Gregor rocks! I love the bones of this man. Sending you every good wish in these difficult times. Stay safe. P.S. I have lost over 12 stones in weight and am maintaining this by focusing on being plant baed and am in my fifth year at a healthy weight, usually around 128 lbs Jane xx

Blending certain foods is fine. Blending greens is fine. You break down some of the fibre making it easier to digest greens by blending them. Even blending banana's is also fine. Certain foods like apples and oranges are bad to blend. Juicing greens is also fine, but greens and vegetables is the only food you should be juicing, this will allow people to get more nutrients without chewing for ages. Perfect for those whom are older and struggle with chewing. So it really depends on the circumstances. Blending is better then juicing as less fibre is lost.
To put it simply if blending greens with some bananas, is the only way you will eat a lot of greens, this is much healthier then not eating greens at all. :)
I actually like blenders, for certain smoothies, when done right, it's a lot easier then chewing for hours on end, and actually is healthy for people. Juicing greens can also get people lots of nutrients fast. But in the end it's better to eat your food whole, that is the healthiest way. But me personally I will always use my blender, as it's more efficient, and as long as I stick to food very high in fibre, breaking some fibre down isn't a problem.. :)

Not to disparage the whole idea of volumetrics, which as she said is a well-established principle, but if most people eat 3-5 pounds of food, that's NOT the same amount. That's a vastly different amount. 5 pounds is about 66% more than 3 pounds. Also, bragging about eating all day isn't exactly encouraging. Who's got time to eat all day? I get 20 minutes for lunch, don't have an opportunity to snack, and I have to eat something higher in calories to get me through to dinner. Too simple.

    • @CHEFAJ
      @CHEFAJ 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Back again. I’m totally confused now. You often state that you have been a vegan since you were 17 (43 years). You wear this like a badge of honour and I would too. However, in this video you just said..... I didn’t eat any fruit or vegetables until I was 43. What’s the truth AJ and is it possible to be a non fruit eating non veg eating vegan? In which case I would ask in a very British way..... What the hell did you eat from 17 to 43? Stay safe Jane xx
