As a little girl I would sometimes stay awake looking at my pool waiting for her. That's what this movie and the score did to me... quite unforgettable. Love it to this day :)
this movie is brutally underrated. there's little else to say. the very fact that this movie got the reviews it did is proof that man does not listen very well...
This movie is a masterpiece. Its weirdness and unpredictability is its greatest gift. It delivers a powerful message of hope in a depressing world. The music in the last 5 minutes is simply breathtaking! I love weird movies with unpredictable surprise twists and endings. Shyamalan never ceases to amaze me with his scripts. I'm sick of the same predictable bs that Hollywood puts out. This movie breaks every Hollywood rule and it still succeeds in my opinion!
The soundtrack is truly inspired and deeply touching, and the film, this modern fairy tale, might be the most underrated Hollywood movie of the last 15 years, which received too harsh criticism.
I agree 100%. This movie is so beautiful, deep and moving. It will always be one of my favorites. I didn’t get it at all the first time watching it. I was expecting a scary film. But upon watching it again from an open place a year after its release - boom. I got it on a deep and profound level. Plus this music. Omg. ✨
You know him?? If you could tell him there's music that will make you feel in the deepest part of your soul. There's music that will be played when you cross over into heaven. Standing at the door of eternity, I'd love to think that this score would be played. Thank you Sir for this arrangement. It makes me feel beyond all.
I have seen Arrival, and I discovered that piece myself. I just want to say it is very different to this, and the feelings I get with Lady in the water soundtrack is much stronger. I do not know why.
+Florante Baguio I liked it, and I'd consider myself a fairly knowledgeable movie-goer. The weakest part of the film was the plot for me. It was preposterous. It seemed to be making things up as it went along. There were so many terms you had to keep track of and the prologue was a last-minute attempt to make it comprehensible to the viewer. However, the cinematography, acting, and music are great. It's enjoyable to watch, but if you think about it, it falls apart a bit.
I heard the song at the end of the movie when I watched it for the first time and I cried. It's so beautiful it gave me a kind of peace and hope in myself.
Listening to James Newton Howard's The Lady in the Water for the first time. I'm impressed. I wasn't expecting this orchestrated action score at all. I'm loving it. Then again, I should've expected this from James Newton Howard. When faced with a magical fantasy movie, and inspired, JNH does magical music..
One of the greatest movies ever made. The level of sensitivity is beyond words. The story is fascinating, and the cast is superb. Everything deserves JNH's magnificent music.
A magical and sometimes very frightening film but with a tremendous message and James Newton Howard's poetic score echoes and uplifts the film and transports the viewer to a half real half mystical time. I do love this film. Thank you so much for sharing this gorgeous music.
This was my one of my best friend's favorite soundtracks. He was a wild Irishman, full of life. His eyes were always full of wonder at the world; He had broad shoulders and flaming red-brown hair that cascaded over his face like a waterfall. His eyes were fierce and piercing. I would come home exhausted from college courses, and Johnathan would be sitting in the dark, surrounded by towers of second-hand books, listening to this score with his fingertips pressed together and a look of intense concentration on his face. I would join him in his wonder. He was not made for this world. His heart always longed for eternity and what lay beyond, and his faith in his Creator was unshakable. He saw magic everywhere; in the stars, the earth, and the rain. For him, every creature and leaf was connected in a beautiful dance. He looked at Death as a friend, and he was utterly fearless. He got married to a girl who adored him and they had a tiny baby girl with red hair and dark Italian skin. Then, one day in late July, I got the call that everyone dreads. There had been a horrible accident at work. I remember feeling like my brightest star had died. We dug his grave with our own hands on his father's land. I climbed into the hole and lay there for a while, staring up at the night sky after the sun had sunk below the mountains. We built his coffin out of pine boards and laid him to rest the next day. We buried him with his favorite sword and dagger next to his side; I felt it was fitting for a man born out of his time. I couldn't hardly look at his wife or his little one-year old daughter; I thought my heart would break in half. It's been years now. My heart still aches for our loss. I always wonder what incredible things he has seen since then. I long with all my heart for the day I can see his face again; Death seems less dark knowing that he already crossed that river. Rest east, Johnathan. I'll see you on the other side.
The greatest Music for the greatest Movie ever. Some people do not understand, how important this movie is. Even if we cannot say it in words, we feel it in our hearts.
I'm with you on this. I love his movies! I liked this one because it reminds me of the imagination and pretend play I used to engage in with my childhood friends. Those years were so much easier!
i love the film and the soundtrack. The music made me love the film. I hate when people follow the bandwagon of criticism for this film. It doesnt deserve half of the criticism it gets.
I wonder if, when James composed this music, he felt the waves lifting his heart heart as i do listening to it now. Been listening also to The Village and Signs soundtracks. Just beautiful. I pray to god that when I die, this is what I hear.
James Newton Howard's scores seem to just kind of place a feeling in your soul that no other composer can really fully accomplish. JNH is one of the reasons Shyamalan's films are so great
the music is a great representation of what the story itself is all about, finding your purpose. i'm at a point in my life where that mystery needs to be solved. i have many paths i can choose from, so many its a little intimidating. what is my purpose? what am i here for? who is it i'm supposed to help with whatever gift i possess? to quote story "all beings have purpose." i will someday find that purpose and use it to bring peace. not everyone has forgotten how to listen.
This song is a masterpiece combined with the movie itself I just can't describe it with words ... I just can feel it... my soul and my heart recognize it the masterpiece on it ... there are some truly magical on the movie and this song... never gets old ... always gets me... I love so much ❤
i go running at nights alone. i run to the end of my neighborhood where there is a line between the homes and safety, and someplace new. and i look beyond into a place I've never seen or imagined. what do i expect? nothing really. but i look behind myself and see the homes and my life and still hold onto that little magic music and films like this offer. its here i listen to this song and dream of whats out there. after the song i run back home. one day ill go out there.
M. Night did an awesome job with this movie. Like always. This music is perfect for the movie as well. This music is beautiful, and perfect for anytime.
Another epic fantasy underrated score by the musical genious of James Newton Howard. An entertaining film with an epic oscar worthin' soundtrack . Like Signs ! I can remember the first time I saw this movie. It was in 2006. I'm in Cape Town, South Africa, and was on a flight to London. It was a connecting flight on to the USA, with Washington D.C. being the next connecting flight before Florida. It was around 2 am. I couldn't sleep. So, I was looking at the list of movies to watch. This one looked intriguing. I also never knew about this movie before. It left a lump in my throat, and this song gave me cold shivers. A case of doing that 21 km up in the sky, moving at 960 km/h.
Thanks for the post. James Newton Howard is my favorite composer. I love his score of this movie, King Kong, Alive, The Village, Snow Falling on Cedars etc.

Brilliant!! So true.

No. The movie is also great.
All great soundtracks exist to make the movie what it is :')
I reply my own voice:

What I took away from it is that we are here for a reason. We get into a lot of trouble and sorrow when we think there is no point to life.
The soundtrack is truly inspired and deeply touching, and the film, this modern fairy tale, might be the most underrated Hollywood movie of the last 15 years, which received too harsh criticism.

M. Night is often so misunderstood in the world of cinema where everything needs to have one layer.

No matter the criticism, it became one of the best cult movies that charmed many for the originality in its history
Just watched the superbowl with james newton howard, told him this was my favorite score of his. one of the nicest guys ever.

Max Richter’s music can be amazing, but it’s also somehow cold,
while this soundtrack is really heart-made.
I really don't know how critics judge a movie but coming from a regular movie goer this movie was just fantastic. And the music theme as well....
