      Nice comparison, could you do the same with Guerlain's Habit Rouge edt vs edp?

    • @MLukacs
      @MLukacs 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I second that suggestion. I own, wear and thoroughly enjoy the EDP version of Habit Rouge but have heard good things about EDT version, especially for warmer weather. Sebastian, if you make such a review, please remember to include a comparison with vintage formulations, as well, like you did in this one. I know that Habit Rouge goes back further. Also, you drew a connection between Heritage and Samara in this review. In the past, you've referred to a connection between Habit Rouge and Shalimar. Could you elaborate on that connection if you decide to move forward with a Habit Rouge EDT vs. EDP review? Thanks!

    Great review as always, Sebastian and Dahlia! I bought the EDP version blind last fall, and wore it all winter. The first thing I thought of when I smelled it was enjoying a pipe or cigar with an after dinner drink in a comfortable chair. Maybe that's why I think it's more appropriate for fall or winter. Also, Dahlia mentioned that a guy in a button down came to mind. I wear a suit to the office, and I really like to wear Heritage when I'm wearing a cardigan with my suit in the winter. Somehow, I started associating fragrances with colors in my wardrobe, and I when I wore my rust colored cardigan, I wore Heritage EDP.
    I've never smelled the EDT, but I'm curious after watching this review. I was even more curious about the original formulation, and I find it interesting that you think the difference is minimal. I was thinking of the EDP in the original formulation, but you have me thinking about the EDT in the original formulation.
    I agree that it's definitely not for those who are looking for a sweet or club fragrance. My teenage son likes it, but doesn't wear it. It's certainly not what you're going to find at the perfume counter in your local department store, but I really wouldn't describe it as barbershop. Recently, I heard an interesting comment from the Wafts from the Lofts guys. They said something like, "There's designer, niche and Guerlain." I wholeheartedly agree. Guerlain, despite all of the reformulations, to me is neither designer or niche. They set the bar and raised it so many times, you can't consider this house designer, even though the Guerlain family is not at the helm any longer.
    When you consider Mouchoir de Monsieur, Vetiver, Habit Rouge, Eau de Guerlain and Heritage, which are some of my favorites, you talking about fragrances with releases before many of your viewers were born but can still be worn today. Mouchoir de Monsieur was the first notable fragrance released by Jacques Guerlain in 1094, who was the third generation. Also, he was the nose behind Apres L'Ondee, L'Heure Bleue, Mitsouko, Shalimar, and Vol de Nuit, which were all released by 1933. Ponder that for a moment. Those fragrances are still in production. The formulations may be different, but those accomplishments alone are enough to separate this house from designer houses. Jean-Paul Guerlain is the nose behind Vetiver (50's), Habit Rouge (60's), and Eau de Guerlain (70's), my new favorite summer fragrance, and Samsara (80's). Heritage and Corolian were released in the 90's, before his retirement in 2002.
    The best part, as you pointed out, is that each of these fragrances can be purchased at outstanding value today and many of the reformulations are acceptable. I discovered this house long after it was sold to LVMH, and I am trying to find older formulations of the Guerlain fragrances that I like.
    I encourage your viewers who are not familiar with the House of Guerlain to take a journey through history via the timeless fragrances that it's introduced to the world. Decants offer an inexpensive way to make the journey. Those who do will find themselves wearing these scents and separating themselves from the crowd with class.

    I honestly think you should review more from this great house of Guerlain. They have almost 200 years of tradition in cosmetics and perfumery and most designers and definitely many niche houses cannot hold a candle to the work Guerlain has gifted us over the years. Love your videos and keep at it!

  • @shtupman
    @shtupman 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I don't think anyone mentioned it, but Jean-Paul Guerlain was the 4th generation and the last Guerlain family nose. First was Pierre-Francois Pascal who started the house in 1828, then his son Aime, followed by Jacques and J-P. Jean-Paul abruptly resigned/retired after a very controversial quote regarding his work ethic. The company hired Thierry Wasser, and the company recently ended it's familial ties by selling to LVMH. Cue the "More you know" tune!
    Excellent review...Heritage is a dumb reach for me. I have both EDT and EDP. Just love it!!

    My second favorite fragrance of all time (designer or niche). I own both the EDT & EDP, and while the EDT projects more, the EDP has a bit more longevity and sillage in my experience. While wearing the EDP, I have been told I smelled handsome by a woman walking a good 6 ft behind me, and have filled an empty room a good 9 hours after first applying it. The EDP is no slouch.

    I’ve worn both on my skin. To me the EDT is a bit spicier, drydown slightly better. while the EDP opens slightly sharper and less spicy. You really can’t go wrong with either of em. They are both very beautiful classic masculine but yet modern smelling scents.

    Jean-Paul Guerlain was the nose from the 1960's to 2012. His first fragrances he made for the house were Vetiver and Habit Rouge. He was the nephew of Jacques Guerlain who made Shalimar, Mitsouko, Vol de Nuit etc. Aimee Guerlain I think was his father and he made Jicky. There was another nose before Aimee and he was the one who created Cologne Imperiale.
    I prefer Heritage EdT over the EdP. I think it is thinner and projects more. The lavender is prominent.

    Heritage edt is one perfume that i can wear for the rest of my life. It's classy, sophisticated and elegant. Guerlain has always showed that you don't have to sell quality perfumes at a ungodly amount. Guerlain sources some of the best raw materials and always have the best blend when the final product is released. If you suffer from migraine and certain notes trigger your condition, Guerlain is the house you may want to consider. They are simply too good to be true. I can't believe Dalia hasn't tried Samsara. It's out of the world, especially on a women. Samasara is heaven.

    Love EDP!!! Must get EDT though. The projection and longevity being amped up could work. I spray Heritage edp and Encre nior L'Extreme on to a NATO style nylon watchband. It lasts so long and every nuance of the scent billows for days and days. Ive had these and others like Lidge and Guerlain vetiver all coexisting very pleasantly together for a little private show. It's really nice to have them all together just for my nose.

    Wow - my bottle of Heritage EDP is close to a 'perfume' on me - rich and complex, and gets deeper and richer as it goes on - it isn't a skin scent on me at all! It has radiance and projection. I just discovered Heritage a few years ago too. And that seems to be in line with many of the reviews I read online before I purchased. I was debating between EDT and EDP, and chose the EDP from the reviews.

    I find EdP is more autumn winter. EdT spring but I also like a bit of both. I’m just a little confused about why Guerlain get classified as “designer”. They have only ever been a perfume house going back 150 yrs plus and have never been linked to fashion houses. The quality, originality and history of the more “exclusive” fragrances speak for themselves. IMHO

    Jean-Paul Guerlain was the last family master perfumer. He created Guerlain's classic men's fragrances Vétiver (1959) and Habit Rouge (1965). He also created Chant d'Arômes (1962), Chamade (1969), Nahéma (1979), Jardins de Bagatelle (1983), and Samsara (1989), as well as Héritage and Coriolan in the 1990s. Jean-Paul Guerlain retired in 2002, but continued to serve as advisor to his successor until 2010, when he was terminated after making a racist remark on French television regarding the inspiration for his scent Samsara. With no heir from within the Guerlain family to take over, the role of master perfumer is no longer tied to family succession.

    I love guerlain men's fragrance, but honestly they do not last on my skin. Their recent bottlings are so watery. Maybe not literally, but so transparent and fleeting. I would love to try this, but I'm not going to buy another Guerlain that sits in my cabinet, even at this price. Although, Dalya could convince me. 🌹😎

    Hahaha! Patch Ho's...🌿🤣🤣🤣 I LOVE patchouli. I agree with Dalya's statement. When I wear perfume, I definitely want other people to smell it. And lately, boy do they. They let me know, too. 🤭 I have never smelled Heritage, in either formulation. The closest reference point I had was Vetiver Extreme, which I did not like at all. I used it as a room spray to use it up. 😒 Vetiver Extreme just seemed very "thin," literally. It felt like I was wearing water. 😞😠

    I snagged a vintage tester when I liked what Demi Rawling had to say about it. I hated it at first sniff. I think my preferences come and go in phases and, at the time, I was in a sweet, green, herbal phase. I revisited it yesterday and was taken back by how much I liked it. Maybe it's the heat and humidity currently, but I love how it smells very dry, clean, classy, mature, complex and not at all generic or cheap. I can also smell the barbershop, fougere aspects of it now.

      Down on their reformulations 🤷‍♂️ no no no thats completely backwards, Guerlain's reformulations are so fantastic most of the time no differences are detectable or extremely minor, I've bought many newer bottled guerlains to compare with older ones and I've never been disappointed ever and I cant say that about any other brand.

    Guerlain is the only house that's get called designer and niche.. so of course i was confused.. looked up the company and they only do fragrances and some other cosmetics... makes them niche right?

    • @ThePerfumeGuy

      It's a really technicality. I used to consider them a niche house before but they have been around for so long and are owned by LVMH - Louis Vuitton, Moet & Hennessy. So? A designer! :)

    I own the EDP of this, and I think this smells quite dated. I have a difficult time imaging this being worn by a younger man. It smells like dust and stale air - like an attic that needs to be cleaned and aired out. There is zero freshness here and it's very dry, woody and peppery. It combines into the feel of a room with no circulation, where a window needs to be opened.

    She can wear the perfume she wants, but it is a reality that Heritage is hyper-masculine, both the eau de toilette and the eau de parfum. There is nothing unisex about it and this opinion is the same as that of all the women I have asked.
