  • 2021 trip to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park, spending a little over a week on an overlanding road trip around the Kgalagadi. In episode 1, we shuttle between Twee Rivieren and Mata Mata as well as taking a detour across the dunes to the Nossob River, with a 2 night stay at the stunning Kalahari Tented Camp.
    Some awesome game viewing with lions, cheetahs and the greatest treat of all, a leopard chilling on a low tree branch less than 150 metres from the road. The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park really is one of my favourite game reserves in South Africa. Although it's becoming more and more popular, with the accompanying increase in traffic and difficulty securing a booking, it's still so well worth the effort in reaching this remote spot.
    Next episode we will travel overland across the Kalahari dunes to an upmarket lodge close, iXaus in the south west of the Kgalagadi National Park, close to the Namibian border, a real treat. And, the best of all, perfect timing brought us close up with a cheetah family.

    I’ve just returned from 2 weeks in the Botswanan side. Even more spectacular and wild than the SA side. I had to sleep in my car on night 1 as there were mating lions where my tent had to go 🤣🤣🤣

    At 4:20; Lions may eat grass if they have an upset stomach. Eating grass causes a stomach irritation which may induce vomiting. Yard cats do the same thing.

      I know the feeling. On our 8 day trip, there was a period of 3 days when cat sightings were very limited. I guess that’s what makes it do special when you do drive round a corner and there they are!

    • @Kangela
      @Kangela  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Fathima, lions roam over quite large territories, so one which is there today, may be a long way away the next. But we've always had good lion sightings on the road between Twee Rivieren and Mata Mata, along the Auob river.

    It looks like most of your route you could do with a 2 wheel drive vehicle.

    • @Kangela
      @Kangela  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A lot of the route can be done in a 2WD vehicle, apart from the section to !Xaus Lodge, that does require 4WD. Also some of the flooded area on the Nossob road. Conditions do change with the seasons, so I would recommend a high clearance vehicle at least, although most of the time it doesn't HAVE to be 4x4.
