    Loving your GL1500 videos. I've done this too a few years ago and in addition to cleaning up the slop, it was actually made to prevent the oil seal from wearing out which is a bear to replace. Cheers mate!

      Hi Allen, from the research I did on this, I believe this mechanism was first invented by a guy from Canada, it was very similar at least, had a bronze bushing in the pivot and he made his from steel, but by the looks of it, China's got hold of them and they're now widely available, I sincerely hope the guy slapped a patent on it in time... weather's still fine here, single digit plus temperatures so not cold yet but I am looking forward to a snow ride this winter, haven't had a good one for years (although they do say, be careful what you wish for lol)... take care and keep safe over there, all the best, D&Px

    Thanks for demonstrating this. I hope mines not too far gone, I am preparing to get rid of these floorboard heel toe crap things on the bike I bought and I think I will just go ahead get one of these gizmos while I am at it. I wish I could find a place I can see exactly how to take all these floor boards and after market crud off so I can install regular shift that works better for people with size 17 feet. I have a 99 aspencade by the way.

    @joepie221 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Greetings Del. Nice bike. You should have given us a walk around. Certainly doesn't look like any wing I've seen. Question....Does the Honda gear shaft go directly (straight) into the engine, or does it connect to another set of links closer to the engine case? I'm still not sold on the secondary pivot point and the lifting of the original shaft. I may be missing something, but that flexing of the shaft looks like an invitation for premature seal failure. BTW...Do you sell shirts?

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there Joe... that's a common question, i showed the shaft moving without the support pivot so you can see that it doesn't rotate, but instead "sweeps" already.. it Doesn't go into the gearbox, it is not the output shaft.. but instead it goes in to a step off plate that then reaches forward by about an inch (the same distance as the support pivot), and then THAT splines into the actual output shaft itself... it's a bit like having a 9" wide peg on your boot lever, and hooking right out at the end of it.. This gadget brings the pivot point out to your boot cap and removes all the leverage from the system, saving both the seal and the output bearing behind it..! We do have a 'Spring' account for selling shirts yes, but it's currently down as they jacked up all their prices, and as we only topped £1.00 on top of each one, it meant we were selling them cheaper than their minimum... so we have to go through the account and rectify it all so they will list up on the site again.. should be done soon Sir... Thank you so much for your support. D&Pxx

    • @joepie221
      @joepie221 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Moonfleet41 Thanks for the detailed reply Del. I get it now. As for the shirts, I started off with Tspring and changed to Custom Ink. The ink work was heads above the rest. It may be worth a look, and I believe they have international service. Take care.

      @Moonfleet41  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    "Fairy lights" 😂 The most ingenious idea's are always the simplest ones, in translation, $40.00 saving you $3g's in the long run. I'm not a GW fan but I love that British Mad Max version. It's not that it's just murdered out, it's got that backyard paint job which I think gives it a unique personality, let alone the other goodies. That reverse starter gear was such a good idea. If I had to ride a GW, it would be that one for sure . Hope all is well across the pond my friend. Best wishes to you and Penny Sir Del and thank you for all that you do for us. While there are plenty of us appreciative fans, looking at the numbers, it almost seems like a thankless job with trolls to boot but I for one am grateful for you and your shared wisdom. To my first ever subscription, top of the morning to you good sir! 🍻

      Hey Sully, good to hear from you. And thank you for your kind words in the Goldwing, it gets more looks and comments than any shiny bike, and even other Goldwing owners dig it..! it's been evolving for a couple of years now and will get better/worse as time rolls on. We're really glad the videos can inspire you in some way to keep your own bike safe and cared for, if nothing else it broadens the pride of ownership and keeps you in better touch with your bike's state of mechanical health.. It's by no means a thankless job when you get kind an generous messages like yours Sully, and of course, there will always be the negative element in any walk of life.. Take care and keep safe my friend and have a peaceful Sunday... D&Pxx

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Rui, if you look closely at your heel toe mechanism, it'll still have that shaft going in between the two pipes under the cylinder head, the only difference with yours is that it'll have a different foot pedal, once you identify that shaft then, yes, that's where the mechanism fits and it'll eliminate all the play from your gear shifter which can actually be worse on heel/toe set ups...let me know if you have any problems, happy to guide you further... here's a link to the part: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304139268138

    • @Moonfleet41

      This item takes out play in the linkage, so if you're bike has that, if the middle joint is sloppy.. then it would certainly straighten everything up and make it more direct.. you're issue could also just be adjustment of the linkage.. worth a look maybe!!

    I just bought one of these off eBay for my gl1500. After doing so I realized it is a “copy” of a more expensive brace, that has a bushing in it. Anyway, I see you also have the cheaper one without a bushing, like I purchased. How is it holding up? Can you still shift nice and smooth with it? Look forward to hearing back thanks.

      I believe so, but can't be sure as I've never had hands on one in the garage and never taken particular notice of the gear shifter when I've seen them out, but if you check specification, if the seller lists one for your bike, then yes it'll be the same.

    You would think the clever lads of Honda would of thought of that from the factory

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was never really a fault on the bikes back in their day, it's only a little freeplay and they upgraded to the 1800 by 2001 and eliminated it then with a different style linkage, and this bike was only 8yrs old when the model was deleted, so I think Honda did address it, it just never became critical enough to become a recall, and now this ol' girl is 28yrs old it's still hardly a big problem, just an improvement in a tired old bike.

  • @loddude5706
    @loddude5706 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Unsupported torque pivot point? - surprised at any engineer, let alone Honda; must be a throwback to prior working etc.
    Now the gear lever won't clatter about (v.annoying) is the 'Cylon-Vader Wing' getting any extra lights for Chrimbo? : ) xx

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think it was a failing, the arc of the mechanism is quite secure, it's just a long metal linkage that puts stress on the output shaft bearing at high mileage, mine's only 64k, and high mileage on a Wing is 300k, so I'm really just compensating so it doesn't get worse later! Have a good weekend buddy.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This bike is a '92 and they made great improvements on the 1800cc model which came out around 2001... it was never a 'fault' that got bad enough to cause problems, many owners happily live with the given freeplay, but me personally, I like a gear linkage that's more precise.
