Genji is one of those heroes that if you aren’t very good then you’re just a punching bag for the enemy team. But once you get good, you’re almost unkillable
Frrrrr

This is the first tutorial that was short, sweet and actually useful that I’ve found. One big tip I want to add tho because this is a problem I struggled with is try to preserve your life more and know where health packs are. You can force a shuriken melee combo but I find it best to break them down a good bit before heading in. Just don’t dash in carelessly and retreat as much as possible if you do. Good luck fellow genji mains
ty, see you at the top
As someone who's taken a liking to genji recently, your guide has helped me understand how to play him better. Thank you
I hope you find some ground in the overwatch community so that more players find these guides
Bros got 117k subs
The last few days I've been looking at guides and starting to use genji in quick games, and videos like this are very helpful.
And if anyone else is reading this, remember that Genji is hard to use, and takes a lot of practice, don't give up. : ]
how good did u get so far 3 monthes later ?

How arw you on genji now after 8 months
How good are you now
I used to watch your dauntless content years ago but naturally stopped after I quit the game. Cool to see you here on overwatch since I recently picked up the game. I wish you well on your content creation journey man!

thank you for making this. short, no extraneous filler. direct and to the point. love it.
Crazy transition. Gotta respect the editing. 8:52
Thanks for the tip man! I used to play Genji a lot in 2017 and am now returning to Overwatch 2 with friends and these tips are surely gonna help me get good at him again.
genjis hard to get into because of how much is going on that you have to keep track of in very short time periods which once you get better its OP, but i dont think he should be getting nerfed because hes also really easy to counter by just switching characters. seriously, all it takes to mostly counter him is having a tank switch to zarya/winston or a healer to switch to moira
And still they nerfed him even stating that he is not Meta like tf. We have a Sojourn which just completely melts everyones HP and they decide to nerf Genji due to being a good flanker??????
@@Chaoskiller2794 three weeks later sojourn didn’t even get nerfed she got reworked and some can say it’s even a buff 😭
At the moment, Genji is unplayable as a character, he is opposed by almost every character, and no one plays for him
@@babychan9188 genji only becomes unplayable if they have a winston, but with the counterswapping tank meta atm its almost impossible for them to stay winston. i get a potg every time i jump on and i pretty much exclusively play genji. trust me, its not unplayable, it just takes a ridiculous amount of playtime. ive got over 300 hours on genji and am still learning new techniques.
Hey man, I've competed in fighting games for years but feel like a complete scrub playing FPS for the first time. These tips were helpful. As someone who is new, it would be helpful to see more common mistakes people make playing various roles.
Tanks, pushing the enemy too hard without a team. You might have seven hundred hp, but trust me five guns vs one of you will melt you.
Dps, picking bad times to flank, like when you're team is dead, cause then you will get focused down and you may have only got a singular kill
Support, being out of position for healing, don't be on the Frontlines, not just because you could die, but because you have to look at teammates to heal them. If you have to look away from the enemy, you can absolutely expect an enemy Hanzo to nail you with a headshot and then you won't be healing anyone.
Your best bet right now is to learn and play every role. Once you realize how the different classes are played and what they need help with you can become a great team player
I’ve played overwatch for a long time (on and off) and Genji has always been my favourite character lore wise and in looks. However I have always sucked at him. Now I’m finally taking the first step in getting good at him
Great tutorial! I've been a genji main since the launch of overwatch 1 pretty much but I'm going to try and actively get good and learn.
One tip I have against pharah: Pharahs are usually cocky since they know you are at a disadvantage so if she is close to a wall you can climb up the wall and get on her and right click her, if she tries to get away you have dash to get closer and get that 50 damage in. Even if she doesn't die it might make it easy for someone else to secure the kill.
On that note, be sure to abuse your mobility when in a close quarters fight, jump over people and make it hard for the enemies to predict your movement, if anything it gets their attention off of your teammates.
Have a good day :)
Thx for the tip
That one Zarya that avoided your ult in the beginning shows how OP she is
I've been playing Genji for awhile now and I could definitely say he's very fun to play in my opinion. I super want to get better with him and those adv tech really sounds pretty good Im definitely gonna try it out and see how effective it is and how easy to hit an opponent with it. Thanks for the guide!
Thank you so much for this guide i have 2 hours on genji and have only won 9 games with him, but now i know the use of he swift strike! Thank you so much for the content.
"Moira's a good healer, but she'll probably get a nerf soon"
Blizzard, "How about a buff instead"
Thank you for making this guide, it really helped me! Genji was my least played hero and I always wanted to learn to play Genji since I have the Illidian skin and haven't used it because i'm bad at Genji.. I think a lot of it is practice too, but this video gives people a lot of good tips.
The only reason I'm learning to play genji is because I got the mythic skin for him lol plus I'm a bit bored of support bastion is also very cool
@@reallytiredkoi honestly i see a lot of mythic skin genjis try to play him but fail badly, because they've never played genji in their life but got the mythic skin
bastion is pretty OP in his other form, but would probably need a shield character like rein or sigma so he doesn't die immediately
@@aru-YT yea I'm practicing on ai at the moment and then qp but for bastion I'll try get pocket support or be shielded but even without them I can maybe get 2 kills in turret form before dying
a problem they resolved with genji's ultimate is that in ow1 when your ultimate would end it would cancel your deflect preemptively, in ow2 the ending animation is delayed until you are finished casting your ability
2:52 “always right click before you do anything”
me : *right click die*
As a genji main I agree roadhogs are the hardest enemy to deal with by far, it's not the hook that's the problem for me but his heals, everytime im about to finish off a roadhog he heals, so the best thing to do is bait it out, but having to bait both of his abilities while using yours scarcely to make it a fair fight is not easy, but very fun and satisfying once you do it
As I'm trying to learn genji for echo ult. This helped me alot, thank you.
Jesus christ that cut at around 8:52 is just God tier editing right there. Great video but that cut stole the show
Thank you so much. This really helped me. I’ve been trying to learn how to play Genji for awhile. Again, thank you!😁👍
As a Genji main for some reason for me it works to bounce over the enemy’s head while using his ult I get so much more kills when the can’t catch me over their heads or bouncing around lmao
2:29 I am a Mercy main (I main Danzo when I play dps) and I love pocketing Genji's. Genji's are always on the move, and if I am able to keep up with the, (I usually am, depends on the map) then I get little to no deaths, provided it is a good genji tho-
Actually as a new genii main. I noticed that I can predict when a road hog is going to hook because of how many times I have gone up against them. When I have this in mind I save deflect until he hooks and then get close and spam double jumps and shurikens at the huge target
I do the same thing with dva since it is free damage from micro missiles and when I’m jumping around all over her screen she can’t hit a single shot on me.
that moment when you just decimate the enemy team and realize you've improved so much with a character is why i play genji
DUDE THANKS FOR THE WHOLE GUIDE! I GOT 10 PLAY OF THE GAMES AS GENJI! IM SO HAPPY!
You can have bap as support, just stand very still. But also, avoid their bullets.
😂
Pro tip. You can spam dash. You have like 60% that you can escape from roadhog
and the other 40% ?😅

Ground breaking genji tips right there
I discovered you through Dauntless (started playing when shock escalation came out) and have been following ever since. Your videos have helped me a ton and I always appreciated that you weren't afraid to be critical and speak your mind. Then I find out that you're also a top500 player in Overwatch, which blew my mind! I've been playing Overwatch since the very beginning and it's pretty much my main game. I've recently been trying to get better at Genji, and this video has so many useful tips and techs that I haven't seen on other videos. It's extremely helpful and I just want to say thank you for making this guide.
I know for the longest time, you've been known as the Dauntless guy, but that's not fair to you since people are allowed to play other games. It's cool to see you branching out and making new content, and I wish you the very best of luck with the channel going forward. I hope you're able to find your groove and succeed with your new content.
I know this is a lot of word salad, and not sure if you'll even see this, but I just wanted to say thanks for all the guides and laughter and I wish you the best of luck going forward. I've been a long time fan, and I can't wait to see what you come out with next. Came for Dauntless, stayed for the awesome guy that is OhDough.
The quality gameplay in the background is enough to know how to play him
"moira will probably get nerfed too"
moira: gets buffed
I think its important to mention Torbyorn has a massive head hitbox you can pretty readily get headshots against him with fan shrunken. but yeah his overload is massive and turret is enemy number one.
im a Genji main and this is really helpful thank you man you earned a sub keep up the good Vedio game work!!!
Ive been playing genji for awhile now and i really enjoy him more because i use to play on my nintendo switch and now im on pc so thats helps alot with my flicks and movement. Btw thanks for the info it helped me improve a bit. Great vid!
for winston you can stay outside of his range and poke him with shurikens from far away until he rushes and dies or has to go back, and for moira if you hit your shots you can outdamage her but you will be on low hp afterwards
Really liked this vid it was simple quick to the point and was packed full of first hand experience and good tips, thanks
I liked, subscribed, and am adding a comment because you asked so nicely. I am also very thankful for this video and these very helpful tips. I love Genji, but I am horrible with him. Cheers and thanks again 😁🖖🏻
didn't know dough was a sweaty genji boi
Curious how you feel as such a high rank Genji about the upcoming balance changes, you mentioned the nerfs but how do you feel it changes his effectiveness
truth be told I prefer mei to genji so I'm not too concerned. I think genji will still be useful but it will take a tad bit more effort to get value from the character.
@@OhDough how great mei got removed from the game lol
I don’t wanna be a Genji main but I feel that to be a good player and teammate, I need to be as versatile as possible and get good at all play styles in a game like Overwatch, I can play almost all characters to a good extent, but characters like Genji I can’t work my head around, it also helps you understand what enemy Genji’s will do in a fight better if you can put yourself in their mindset so my advantage will go multiple ways if I can get good at Genji
I WAS PLAYING A COMP MATCH AND WAS TOLD TO WATCH VIDEOS I WILL COME BACK AND TELL U HOW IVE IMPROVED THANKK YOU
Lmao, I'm routing for you
Never played OW before,I started 2 days ago and I became a Genji main after dropping 21 kills in my first match
I’m only watching this for my friend
After this, I think I've been improving on my Genji skills. Tips for new Genji players who get flamed over them being bad, type /hidechat and any message in the chat that tries flaming you will be hidden, and if its vc well.. go to the vc channel and mute whoevers flaming you there.
Hope y'all also improve on your Genji's!
THNX SO BLOODY MUCH
first POTG as anyone in compet cuz of this
thnx againg
such a good job dude, thanks man
ive always wanted to learn genji, ty for the guide bro 👍👍👍
Most satisfying thing when playing genji is when you deflect bastion's bullets when he's in the minigun mode
Watching this in season 4. I agree with the Moira hot take. She didn't get nerfs lol. Only further buffs haha
I had no idea you got dash back when you recently used it after you use dragon blade. Wow. Thank you!
Genji has, what I call, Tf2 spy syndrome. So many people want to play Genji because of his cool looking character, and that leads to lobbies having inexperienced Genji players who only think of “mm, primary fire.”
Such a fun character. Thanks for the tips.
Tysm!! Genji has become my favourite and i wanted to use him well
Moira deserves the worst time of pain, top line torture 😃
Love today's sponsor
in the advanced tips, what's the reason to dash at the enemy's feet before the shotgun shuriken+melee? Are you specifically aiming for the feet for a reason, or just to close the distance and then jump (ideally) to headshot level and do the shotgun shuriken?
It's so you don't just dash through them, it puts you right in their face so you can hit the 3 shurikens and the melee.
@@xC4sperx thank you!
im dead with the sponsor time lmao
Thanks for watching yall
The dash at the feet I had no idea I alway went through and struggle to 180 shoot melee
Yeah, his dash sends you 15 meters away. Feet is good.
i got overwatch a couple days ago and im think ready to try versing harder bots with genji ive been praticing genji for hours now andhope i might get good
Thanks for the guide i terrible at damage for most part and genii is one ones im decent at so love any tips and trick et even better at genii. also hes cool as heck to boot
6:47 bro cut the deflect on sigma's rock 😭
He uh... missed 🤫
@@OhDough to be fair it’s dumb as hell how genji can deflect a black hole but not a rock
Genji is an absolute riot to play, until Moira stumbles out of Gnarnia to come and headhunt you 😵💫
I used to be a genji blade but then i started playing dva and the biggest struggle now is that i don't remember to reload
Question btw, is there a specific aim trainer you'd suggest for Genji?
guys we got 30 shurikens again lets GO
I literally main hanzo til gm, but when i saw ur guide, i main genji😭
I used to watch your dauntless vids but I love your new overwatch vids keep it
Up ❤
I was legitimately about to skip the sponsor until you proudly said "Me" that was neat
I love play genji but i am ass at playing him tryna get better cause i just bought the cyber demon skin
Appreciate this
A question I’m gonna so because I struggle heavily with it is neutral, at the start of the match I have no clue how to position myself and I always can fanned out by longer range characters. Seemingly I also always fight all 5 people at once which makes it hard for me to get value
Basically never put yourself in those positions if playing genji best thing to do is poke them with shurikens from a distance and when the time is right dash in get a kill or 2 dash out and repeat until you get your ult
man this guide brings up even more questions about genius nerf
Thanks man.
Thanks for the brief and useful guide
Usually when I'm going up against tanks as genji, I just stay at a distance and damage them for my teammates (who can actually kill tanks without too much problem) to finish them off. Which is why when there's like three tanks on the other team, I'm just like "umm, guys, we could really use a tank of our own here right about now" while continuing to struggle desperately for my life
2:17
Im a mercy main and sometimes genji and i love pocket genji bc of the exact same reason
I have a Question, What do you have your Sens and stuff personaly? What do you recommend? Any Genji Specific KB Changes?
Favorite character but I would love to understand him better. Excellent guide.
ty
Genji is so hard to play but one of my favorite heroes and wish i was better at him
am curious now on your thoughts on Tracer's kit
Holy shit OhDough on Overwatch? I feel kinda bad for mainly knowing him for dauntless.
"but first, let us say thanks to todays sponsor"
oh alright here we go let me skip ahea-
"me! like, comment, and subscribe :D"
instant like+subscribe that was a banger
3:57, i dont understand, don't you get ur dash back (swift strike) after killing an enemy that u hit with it? whether u kill them with the dash itself or they die by something else after u hit them with ur dash
Have 1000 hours on overwatch. I’ve grinded my way up to diamond. Can hop on most heroes, even if I don’t play them, and do fairly well. Main a hero as difficult as wrecking ball. But I’m still absolute trash on genji. Hell lol
watched this guide, then team killed with dragon blade. Guide works can confirm
I am gonna start playing him because he’s a badass cyborg ninja samurai.
watching this made me realize i know almost all there is to know about this character but my mechanics suck and that's why i'm not perfect
Thank you for the guide
Got bored of ow2 and started learning Genji and I’m having fun again
Chad Genji user
Can you do a guide on dragon blade combos? Like how'd the pros manage to get 5-6 kills in team fights with only 6 seconds.
I’m a low ranked genji main, but I have a few tips I’ve heard from friends.
1. You really don’t have to team wipe with your blade all the time. Even just two kills on essential characters or the last DVA on point can make all the change in the world if you just use the blade to secure that victory
2. Analyze the enemy team’s hp and weakpoints. “Weakpoints” are anyone who’s out of position, low on hp, or someone you’re confident you won’t let get away with the blade. When you know they have many weakpoints that can be capitalized by the dragon blade, feel free to use it. Your swift strike and it’s resets after each kill will enable those epic plays pros make where their screen is a blur till everyone is dead. It’s not that they’re magically enhancing their dragon blade even further to another plane of sweaty gamerness to one shot every character.
It’s that they’re prioritizing lower hp targets in range, swift strike slashing them, nearly immediately recognizing where the next low guy is and dashing them to get another reset, rinse and repeat
3. You could just ask for Nano. Literal steroids
@@Shuren555 Thanks. I knew all that but it does help keep it in the back of my mind.
I love genji, he fits my play style really well. But I'm on console. I had paddles on my PS4 controller so it wasn't a big deal, but I got a PS5 now and my PS5 controller does not have paddles, making it difficult to play genji, since I got used to having paddles. I was just gonna use my PS4 controller with my PS5, but I'm having trouble with it I'll just say.
Wow I'm an ow 1 player who came back and have almost about 100 hrs. and I have never heard or thoguth about some of these
“What the fu*k is that turret placement?” An effective one evidently
I feel like almost all support abilities can shut down a dragon blade lol. Had one game where it took four swings to kill a moira
Trying out gengi for the first time, it is, its tough.
Roadhog isnt such a bad matchup you can dash out of hook and deflect his ult ext.
