Repainting the whole wall is probably the simplest solution, and that will allow it to stay even throughout the years. If sunbleaching is the culprit, you'll just end up with two different colours again in a few years if you try to match the current colour. Also, if you usually have a lamp on your nightstand in addition to the wall light, that can also have affected the colour of the wall.
i think she could color match it pretty easy, just add some yellow, red, and black. also feathering/blending the edges with a sponge or dry brush would help

Your mom is right. Paint ages. Also gloss paint goes cream with age. If you use white satin for your woodwork, not only is it water based and brushes wash out with water, but the colour stays white, and looks classier.
I think some little fake windows and curtains would be so sweet in your mini room. You could use photographs or art behind the window frames to look like a view out of the window 😊🪟
I also think new stained glass would be better. Glass is made a lot stronger and better nowadays and that old glass seems cracked and freaks me out 😬 I would have thrown it all out if it were me because glass breaking is a huge phobia of mine. With paint, not only does it change in the sun, but not every tin of the same colour will be exactly the same shade. The labels on the tins often advise mixing two tins together if you need multiples to avoid colour differences. I've never bothered and almost always have got away with it, except in one room where I switched to a new tin after cutting in the second coat. You can really really see it...
yeah the paint can might just be slightly different, the easiest solutions i think would be blending the edges with a sponge, mixing in some red, yellow, and black to color match, or just repainting the whole wall
Repainting that wall is your best solution. Paint colours change/fade over the years. You'll NEVER match it 100%. You have a full can...take it to your local paint store or hardware store and ask them to shake it up for you in the machine. Then paint just that wall. LOVE your mini shadow box 💜
Ariel is so skilled but the vision of her painting above her mobilia without any protection stressed the hell out of me 😂 and her mixing the paint in her beautiful chair too
I would just paint the one wall, I don't think it will be noticeable to the other walls as there is always a slight shade difference due to the light direction. You will save time and headache trying to colour-match exactly. Either that or a nice wallpaper? :D
I used a paint color that took about two weeks to “cure” to the actual color. I was pretty panicked when the initial coats were NOT right. I paused for a few days to research new colors and in that time I noticed the paint color deepened and changed. I waited and two weeks later it was exactly what I wanted. Maybe you just need to let the paint cure. Edit to add: I wonder if it got too cold over the winter and maybe that messed up the paint. 🤷♀️
Hear me out- what your mini room needs is a wallpaper accent wall. You could make it removable by just gluing the wallpaper to some cardboard the right size, then take that out! And for “wallpaper” you could use nice printed patterns at the right scale
god I love the typewriter to do list segment.. every time Ariel says she has to make a list, I’m always 😍ing at the individual typewriter clicks.. and of course the mini room box is just precious and I’m so obsessed. Love that for you, Ariel.
Daughter of a contractor here, she always told me that re-painting small sections needs to happen in a couple of days of the entire section being painted; otherwise you will drive yourself crazy trying to get it to match, and as your mom said, it will not age the same as the rest of the wall and you will always be able to tell. I'm sorry to say it, but you're options are to cover up the spot with something (furniture, tapestry, wallpaper etc.) or repaint the wall.
I know this is probably a long shot, but if you ever find yourself in Kansas City we have a delightful Toy and Miniature Museum that I think you would like!
Thank you so much for being realistic with your projects. The honesty about the plaster in the bathroom made me feel so much better about some of my own projects that don't get done right away. I also love the little mini room! So fun!
as someone who always delays little tasks until they feel like big overwhelming tasks, i love these and especially love the typed up to do list! nothing better than physically crossing something off your list. enjoy your trip! :)
The paint problem is called flashing, it often happens when you touch up paint. Did you paint the wall with a brush or roller before? Because it’s usually a texture change and if you used a roller and then touched up with a brush it can look different. You could try feathering out the paint at the edges to blend it more or maybe thinning the paint slightly. The best result would come from repainting the whole wall though unfortunately
Feather it in! I came here looking for this comment! Use just a little paint on your brush. Almost dry, and feather in the existing paint so you don't have a line.
If you rolled the paint on the bedroom wall originally; you may be seeing a texture difference more than a color difference. I'd try a roller being careful to feather it out so you don't end up with roller lines
About the wall: How many coats did you do of the white originally? Maybe the previous wallcolour was shining through a bit and adding another layer covered that up? But I agree with the comments that just painting the whole wall seems like the easiest way to solve this, other than just living with a slightly whiter patch
yeah painting the whole wall is simple, also just mixing up a small amount of paint that matches the wall color by adding yellow, red, and black. just depends on which sounds more fun lol
Man I need more videos with the tiny room! I grinned the whole way through you pulled out these tiny furniture and when you placed them inside I was squealing 😅😅😅😅
One thing with the wall - you probably should use a roller. You can also take your full paint can to the hardware store and most stores will put it on the paint mixer for free.
As a painter I clean my brushes with cooking oil, margerine or vaseline: rub it on and let it sit a while, then wash it off with dish soap. This also works for adhesive residue as well as paint. Also I use it to wash my hands instead of putting turpentine on my skin. It might save you from having to use a scraper in the future.
I think if you only paint the slanted part of the wall in the desired white color, it would deceive the eye that the entire wall is one white color since the slanted part also has natural shadowing from being slanted. Hope this can help!

Regarding the bedroom wall: Most wall colors are water soluble after they have dried. If you have a little nick in the wall you can go over it with a wet sponge. Maybe you can try to soften the edge of the new patch with a wet sponge? Hope that helps make it less obvious.
I've had the same problem with the paint...I think your mom is right that the colors tend to age. Also, I think it's pretty common that two cans of the same pale, subtle shade would be slightly different because just a little pigment in the mix makes a big difference. Someone below said to just repaint that one wall, and I agree--you probably won't notice the shade difference if it changes at a corner!
I'm from chicago and the thorne rooms are absolutely amazing! they definitely started my love of miniature things. super fun to see you redo the little room
For the paint, you can cut out a patch of the paint wall (only need an inch by inch piece) and colour match in store :) done this before and it worked for me

Yes, the dollhouse rooms in Chicago! Also, I love this idea of a single room of a doll house that you can refurnish as you want. I have doll house furniture from my mom, from me and from my kids and I was sad to pack it all away-my kids are long past playing with a dollhouse. You wonderful mad person for giving me inspo to make a doll room.
Paint will change over time! I usually just repaint whole walls rather than spot paint. The sun can change the colour. Also dirt and dust in the air can grey the paint. Paint will also just naturally fade over time.
Haven’t even watched the video yet but seeing it uploaded made me so happy. I don’t know how Ariel does it, her videos are so therapeutic. The longer the better is my preference! 😅 I just love her personality and how she adapts to whatever situation. It makes my own anxieties about life go away. Thank you, Ariel!
Your mom is absolutely right. Sun and just exposure to air ages and changes paint color, even if you have some left over paint in a can, it will be different from what’s on the wall. Sometimes it’s just easier to color match at the hardware store. Or repaint everything.
You'll likely have to repaint the entire wall. BUT if you're not wanting to do all of that quite yet and want to try something. I like to feather out the edges of the repainted patch areas. So then at least the lines of new vs old paint isnt so harsh and it might be able to blend into one another with the naked eye. Paint the area again, then with the same brush with less paint on it, or barely any, softly brush out the lines so it blends into the old paint. Hope that makes sense, and helps!
I was suggested to follow you as a fellow canadian girly starting the process of moving from Ontario to Nova Scotia. ❤ Excited to follow along your journey!
I'm obsessed with that mini room! I literally audibly gasped when I saw it and immediately announced to my partner that I have to make one somewhere in our house. I may not b able to do one inset in our walls though bc our wall are quite thin here. But a 3d shadow box would look awesome ❤
My dad used to always say that if you use the same paint at different times it can “oxidize” (i don’t actually know if that’s what causes it) but the pigment does change over time!
Goo Gone and similar products are great for removing all sorts of stickers and adhesives. Sorry about the Vanilla Kiss touch-up issue! Like others, I suspect you best bet, sadly, is to repaint the wall.
Did you ever play with AG Mini's? The American Girl Doll company made tiny rooms with magnetic walls, electricity and furniture with reversible textiles. They were so much fun. You'd probably enjoy them too 😁
If you have to clean windows like that in the future, Goo-Gone or Oven Cleaner will make your job so much quicker. Goo-Gone will get rid of most adhesives and paints, and anything Goo-Gone doesn't get off, Oven Cleaner will get rid of. I've had to clean a lot of windows and mirrors, that looked like that, and those two items save me so much time and effort. :)
ariel, it would be so great if you do a somewhat behind the scenes, where you talk to your plomer for example and discuss the options, i think it would give all of us an idea of how these renovations and new installations work 😅
What a relatable video! I really love those "miscellaneous tasks" videos just as much as the ones about the bigger projects, it's somehow really satisfying to watch you get the "little" things done (and gives me a much needed kick in the butt to do the same 😅). I feel your pain regarding the paint, though. Isn't it just great (emphasis mainly on grrrrrrr) when a seemingly short and simple task stubbornly keeps producing more problems? Then again: Three more tasks are done, yayyy! 🎉 Love the new miniature room, it really looks like someone's living there! 😍
I would wash a spot beside the paint spot to see if it's just a little dirty, dust and dirt gets everywhere over time and sometimes you don't see it until a spot is washed.
For the wall I don‘t know why it happens, but my solution when repainting a small patch is to really thin out the paint at the edges, go over it with a dryer and dryer brush. This way there are no hard edges and as long as the colour is similar you don’t notice it. Although your patch may be a bit big for that, who knows.

Love the new miniature room, it really looks like someone's living there! 😍
I would wash a spot beside the paint spot to see if it's just a little dirty, dust and dirt gets everywhere over time and sometimes you don't see it until a spot is washed.
I have been doing all the random little projects around a my house too, buts be a Spring thing 🌼😊
Great way to crack out a few stragglers and get them off your list. BTW, love your denim Boiler Suit.
