Hey you! Thank you for all the work you’ve done, you’ve actually saved my a** on an incredibly important work project with a few past videos and I haven’t stopped watching you’re videos on the daily ever since! I sometimes just listen to learn all I can when I’m stuck driving and rewatch later! I appreciate you! Anyway!… came to comment because I’m looking for that video about circles for 3d printing you said might be coming about 10 minutes into this video. I would love to see that! Again, thank you for all you do! And I’m loving CADsketcher!
It doesn't seem to have been mentioned yet, so just so you know, the smooth shading can be changed. In the screw modifier, click on the dropdown for normals and deselect smooth shading.
Before watching this, I was afraid to even try to use the screw modifier. Now I wonder why. I always thought that making something like threads or springs would be super difficult. Well, with very basic CAD tools, it can be. I started with various CAD programs 20 years ago, so believe me, I know basic. New tools like Blender blow my mind, mainly because it can be hard to unlearn old methods and bad habits. When I watch smart tutorials like this, I feel like I'm an old guy sitting in a classroom with young kids in school again and they're all staring at me like I'm weird and shouldn't be there.
Bill, I 100% know where you are coming from. At then end of the day just remember that everyone has been in that same spot at some point while learning this crazy program 😃
Hi Jonathan, very nice series, you helped me get a long way from 3ds max to blender... thank you so much since you've uploaded the organization video, don't forget to add it to the description, it's still "coming soon"
I was actually looking for a solution to make a snailhouse in Blender. This tutorial wasn't helpful at all for that purpose of course, but damn was it fascinating to watch! Now I know how to make a screw, maybe for later :) Really well done tutorial and a lovely voiceover as well!
How can I make that thread start and end like the real life one? In real life it's start point is smooth and give a feel to born from the base shape...
Very nice and to the point, just like always, that's what I like with your videos. Just one thing to note, maybe someone will find this useful; if you want to just drag a vertex handle out without rotating the vertex you can select just the handle and do a scale (S), it does the same as the slightly more complicated setup. Not sure if this works before 3.0.1, I'm too lazy to try O:-)
After parting element from the screw CAD transforms is unable to snap vertices of this new element when I do this, there is no orange circle around vertices of this element. All other element's vertices can be snapped this way. Should I do something after parting to make it work?
Hey Raimundas Pavilonis , Half and half it's about design right this minute. A lot of it can be implied into 3D printing or laser cutting. With time It's going to be a real mix.
Make sure that you are on the right selection mode and all that. If you are new to blender I have a full series that new and veterans have found useful.th-cam.com/play/PL6Fiih6ItYsXzUbBNz7-IvV7UJYHZzCdF.html
Now you must alread know, but i was the same problem, i dont have that option. I discover i can create a vertex in Edition Mode holding Ctrl + Rigth mouse click. So much usefull.
That bolt addon also restricts the breadth to 50mm so if you want to make a screw cap container with the bolt add on it will have to be 50 or less in diameter. Why go to the effort of making an addon just to restrict people from using it. Well annoying.
19:28 Yeah except you didn't explain how to actually make it useable since there is no way to close the end without the vertices getting all fucked up.
The best to ever do it! It's been a year, but the benefit of it still remains.

wow this bolt factory add-on is amazing
Great job, explaining about moving outside: object origin point to make it work. -Thanks
Now I can screw around in Blender.
Oh my...
Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for the heads up.
Best teacher ever
hi, do you have any idea on how to change the screw by the slope angle or percentage?
Does bolt factory have imperial bolts? As well as the metric?

As always great job Jonathan thanks a lot 😊
My pleasure! Thank you!

seems like a great video and maybe I'll come back to it but the use of 'go ahead and' was getting to me
How can I add vertices to the screw modifier? I can only move the vertices I created in the single vert but not the entire object has vertices..
great totorial
Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

F9 doesn't make the dialog box pop back up. I'm using blender 3.3.

Awesome 🤙
Thanks 🤗
Briliiant stuff, thank you
Wow so useful thank you
No problem 😀
Hey. As I see all your channel in one or other way based on 3d printing?

Hi Is it possible to change the python script to make bigger bolts & nuts. I need M16. Or can you point me to where in the script to add this caheng
damn son nice video!
Thank you Kot!
Glad you enjoyed it.
I can't even get the single vertex to extrude. I'm using version 2.93.1.

The mesh in the end does not contain any caps this can not be 3d-printed. i wonder if there is a modifier to create faces where nesessary
select the edges on the end and use the fill command!
Why not show how to finish the threads on say a pipe?
Please 🙏 increase font size

sadly, no square nuts in the add on
How would my kids look like if I had square nuts ? (;¬_¬)

Addon doesnt work
Geez... go to end of vid, install bolt factory, done.
