Screw and Bolt - Creating simple shapes in Blender

  • I'm thinking this could make a good series so some feedback would be helpful.
    Do you think this sort of short video covering a shape is a useful way of seeing tools used in combination for a purpose?
    Is this something you'd like to see more of?
    Would you like it quicker with less explanation or is this about right? Or maybe a mix between videos?
    Note: There is a bolt builder native to Blender. That wasn't really the point of the video as its there to show techniques but also the hex bolt seems to have an annoying circle at the bottom of the bolt head.

      There is a paid for version with some extra features called Deus Ex but this and the vast majority of the tools are in the version that's free (just out in 0 in gumroad). Though it is amazing so I'm sure the creator would appreciate a small "tip"/"thanks"

    Blender itself also comes with a solution without having to install an additional add-on. you can enable 'Bolt Factory' in the settings and preferences. this will give you a more creative and less precise alternative to the Machine Tools. although the add-on you cover here is excellent as well!

      It goes but for some reason making a hex bolt it puts a cylindrical shape below the nut head. That could be taken out but this is a set of useful techniques to know 👍🏻

    Hi,
    Just a few remarks:
    - In fact, the thread is external to the screw, whereas it should have been cut into the body of the screw.
    - the chamfer at 30 degrees on the head of the screw and on the nut is the result of the intersection of a cone (120 degrees at the top) and a hexagon, not an ellipse and a hexagon.
    Best regards.

    When I try bevelling the end of the screw after extruding, the top face (triangle fan) completely explodes into a star pattern. What am I doing wrong? Does if have anything to do with setting the cylander as a triangle fan?

    • @ArtisansofVaul
      @ArtisansofVaul  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      From what you describe it's like you have vertices on top of each other (normally from extruding and then cancelling it but that still leaves the extra vertices). Try "a" to select everything, then "m" for the merge menu and select by distance. Then try bevelling.

    Hate to be 'That Guy' but hey, comments, is comments, as far as the algorithm is concerned. :D 1. It's not a screw, it's a bolt. Screws are generally pointed (but not always) they also have some sort of slots on the head for use with s Screwdriver. This uses a Spanner / Wrench to tighten or loosen. The other thing is that the thread on a bolt is usually cut into the bolt rather than extruded from it. This could be easily faked be making the part of the bolt above the threads fatter.
    But having said all that, I love your tutorials. Keep up the great work.
