But this way you may end up with tiny are pockets. A dot or sausage is certainly better if you press the heatsink straigt down and not under an angle. Thermal grizzly Kryonaut thermal compound is one of the best thermal compounds out there (12.5W/mK) and it's not electrically conductive.
@@nekron75 i know a long time has passed, but Der8auer has debunked that myth regarding airbubbles when manually spreading the thermal paste because of the imense pressue it creates. now, if that concerns you, you can spread it around in a thin layer and then put a tiny dot on top of it, so incase there are those said pockets, it will fill them out. when you are working with a naked die (like a GPU or a console), you need to FULLY cover everything up so it doesn't get burned out over time due to hotspots.
If you work directly on the die you always spread the thermal compound over the entire surface- You do not rely on a the pressure spread, as a dead spot can kill your chip.
I was going to say "Be careful with that TC because if it is conductive and gets on the pins it can short something out." But I watched a little later and you said that you did put too much on. Im glad you didnt power it like that. The TC that sony used isnt conductive but they still should put it on better than what they did. Im surprised that they dont use a TC pad for quickness of manufacturing.

In this build I used aluminum heat sinks. On my new build I water cooled the VRMs. Check it out on my channel and the water blocks I use are for lga1150 from ek. Sometimes I have to modify them to work
@@Wistbacka yes the motherboard tray that surrounds the motherboard touches the VRMs to cool them, but it doesn't do very well. Even when I tried cooling them with the little heatsinks it wasn't enough. Once I watercooled them it runs amazing and doesn't need to sound like a jet engine the way it used to be

So my take-home message here is: - any lga1150 water block should work - now that you have that thick copper plate on the rear, you dont use/install that X-shaped transistor cover, right? - it is impossible to install the motherboard flat against a wall like a PC motherboard Anything else I should think about in regards to the custom cooling?

I just had to cut a little of the acrilic at the corners to make them diagonals in order to pass screws through it to line up with the PS4 motherboard holes. Correct you no longer need that x shaped cover. As for installing it into a PC case you need to place the board in the plate and mark all the holes on the case and drill new mounting holes. Then I just got motherboard stand offs from Amazon to mount it
That's a piece that came with the PS4 pro. When you open it up you'll see it. But if your following this, I recommend checking out my newest build which goes over a new cooling method for cooling the video ram on the back of the PS4 pro. If you don't cool the back you will experience over heating issues.

No, in this build I used an external power source. I recommend watching my watercooled Ps4 pro 2.0 where i show how to power the PS4 pro with a computer power supply. That way you don't have to worry about powering the pump, fans, lights, etc. externally.
next episode :how to overclock PS4....I used liquid cooling on my gaming PC because it was extremely overclocked and air wasn't able to cool down CPU and GPU ,but water-cooling on PS4 is useless my fan is really quiet now after replaced thermal paste

@@mccauleymccranie3752 the mount holes are different on a normal PS4. The pro had 4 holes around the APU to allow a traditional CPU water block to fit. On the PS4 there are only 2 holes they're diagonal from each other and I'm not sure if its the same spacing as the pro so not sure if a traditional waterblock would fit

I'm working on a similar project. I just plastidipped my PS4 motherboard and tossed out the original chassis. It ended up looking great!

I'm going the same route, cant stand the sound of my ps4 pro. Any uncapped framerate game or 60fps and it sounds like a jet engine.

Why is your harp out on the table?
your instalation is wrong, the paste must be spread very thinly with a spatula. You run the risk of not getting the complete GPU paste.
When I took the block off on my updated 2.0 version it was perfectly spread out. My 2.0 version came out a lot better, video is on my channel.
