Space Engineers 2 definitely needs native tools for gears and chains. Pre-made blocks and tools for deploying them.

Or some type of rail/track, which would be useful for both elevators and trams.

@@SirKolass The game engine SE1 runs on is almost at it's limits. It's an old game engine. SE2 gives Keen a chance to start fresh with a new much more capable game engine.

@@killman369547 I don't think that would put a strain on the engine, it's nothing complex really, the game already has pistons and stuff moving blocks, it would work in a similar way.

    2 - The CLANGANATOR!
On a more related note, I honestly think the first and foremost reason why we don't see more intricate engineering designs like these on a large scale, is the moment you start adding any amount of subgrids to your ships - especially if those ships are larger in size - you get massive performace hits to gameplay. Same for lights and any moving parts really. They look cool as a standalone concept, and you can potentially squeeze one elevator and a couple of custom turrets or whatnot on a ship, but the moment you start engineering any amount of custom moving parts (landing gears, elevators, cranes, custom turrets, angled screens, cosmetic subgrids etc) it tanks your framerate into unplayable territory. Looks awesome and immersive AF, but outside being eye-candy, nobody wants to fly around at 15-20 fps.

I can't exceed 24 fps with the toaster who is my pc so I think my graphics card will fry if I try that (I lost my sound card with the nuclear weapon mod)

I'm a little miffed that the counterweight elevator I made a while back during mad arron 3 didn't get put into this, but I guess these ones are a bit more unique and complex though. Some really cool builds to be sure.

My remote mining rig works similar to 3rd elevator, it extends pistons to side to lock itself in place, then retracts drill pisons to free drills and extends the central piston that pushes drills into ground, once that piston is at 100%, the drill pistons extend to lock itself in place, the other pistons retract and the whole rig retracts on the central piston, then rinse repeat.
I don't even use rotors attach/detach, just piston with mag plate since that seems more stable than attach/detach, plus I don't have to build anything as the rig keeps going deeper on it's own.

Hey, that piston and rotor elevator is quite similar to some electromagnetically locked omnidireccional elevator designs. It could be upgraded with some work to have a second axis parallel to the wall, and you could even add a third axis by adding a moving bridge perpendicular to the wall under the elevator cabin, similar to a CNC system. Or mount the two axis to the ceiling and hang it like an overhead crane. It could make a great people mover for a big hangar, to move and work around lots of ships. Just add proximity sensors to avoid crashing yourself into the ships.
