I feel like, the problem isn't always the zoning but rather poor game balance in general, often leaving certain characters with no answers to certain situations. Thats what I'm finding in MK1. I'm brand new to the NRS scene, but already I've begun to notice taking this game seriously on a competitive level vastly comes down to both skill AND bad matchups. Maybe they tried to address that with the kameo system, but it's not enough. Considering how much I love fighting games it would be difficult for me to take these games seriously at a pro level, considering what I've seen and experienced online. I've noticed you can spend 100's of hours developing your skill for a specific character, then new DLC drops and the character you've honed has no answer for what they're doing. It's really annoying and this is likely why all the major tournaments this past year ended in mirror matches. Alas, I've never played Injustice - it looks kinda cool.... and kind of annoying. I think, NRS knows how to SELL fighting games really well, but making a competitive fighting game is a different story and thats what tournament numbers are reflecting.
Was just thinking about this. Zoning ruined the nostalgia & blood sweat & tears put into labbing. Laggy Atoms & starfires can be tricky 😩 gotta play against ur Star sometime
Ive been saying for years that if NRS made projectiles collide it would fix so much of this problem, thats the main difference between SF zoning and NRS zoning, why they ever made the decision to have them pass each other is beyond me, and decisions like that are why I play SF and Tekken lol
I started this game with the flash cause obviously my favorite. After getting spammed so much i had to switch to darkseid and even had a starfire incase someone got lame
If we are all honest we all enjoyed the zoning in ij3 It just made the game really different from other FGS I played captain cold which was a technical zoning character(which i had much fun)
This game was so fun. I was super casual and played supergirl to overcome zoning, but started to play as redhood and booooy, that character was so fun. The most fun character I ever played in fighting games. I want injustice 3 so bad!
It wasnt even the zoning that ruined it for me. It was enchantress. Idk if enchantress was broken. But a character doesnt have to be broken to be completely obnoxious.
I mean, it’s an NRS game made in the 2010’s. Of course zoning is basically king compared to most other games. A big issue comes from chip damage and relatively lower jumps in these games compared to footsie fighters and especially anime/Capcom Vs style fighters.
I think that having strong zoning led to some really hype moments where players overcame it, but overall, I agree it probably hurt the game. Even still Injustice 2 is my favorite game I've ever played, and I'd be so hyped for an Injustice 3 with or without zoning.
I think Injustice 2 was the best NRS game for me, I had SO much fun with Scarecrow because I tend to go for characters with both long range normals and grabs. MKX had a more fun playstyle, but that game also got on my nerves cause it was very unbalanced and 50/50 focused throughout most of its lifetime. Injustice 2 was the NRS game that came out in the best state imo. But yeah, I wish they'd tone down the zoning, I would have personally loved a reduced screen length (reduced max distance between characters).
yeah if there was one thing i hated about the Injustice games, it was the terrible zoning. i am guilty of this too tho as I only used Deathstroke to defeat my little brother lmaoo
I would personally give Deadshot a pass since lorewise he's the best marksman in DC and he doesn't have super powers so it would be weird if he played like Deathstroke for example. Also there was a problem of casuals who were character loyalists now I do admit zoning was a problem but if you're getting your ass handed to you by a zoner, learn or experiment with characters that punish zoners like Darkseid, Enchantress & Supergirl
The one thing NRS really needs to learn is to properly dose how much they “experiment” with new mechanics/art style/tone/general gameplay. Every game releases vastly different but they seem to refuse to keep the things people loved about their old games. If they go for injustice 3, i hope they decide to keep a lot of what made injustice 2 but cut down on the zoning aspect
There is a very good reason the best fighting games trade fireballs. Projectiles still passing each other just proves they're unable to admit when they're wrong, I mean, they did finally remove that block button in Injustice 1/2...
I mean the block button makes sense for MK because it was built for it. Injustice is not MK so it doesn't need one Though I am not actually sure if projectiles canceling would be better or worse since it just means characters that lack fast fireballs would literally just get overwhelmed
@@boredomkiller99 usually characters that lack fast fireballs are balanced enough about it. By having good or decent enough normals and ok damage. So projectiles cancelling with each other would have been a good thing.

Inj 2 is still my fav nrs game by far. Minus the zoning, everything else was just how i wanted it.
Nice video. Nice rundown of the scene. I missed out on injustice. Picked up mk11. I like the video format, too. Later.
The worst part was the level scaling in multiplayer, people are literally invincible if you have shitty gear compared to them.
Anyone on pc wanna play injustice 2 we can get a discord community going
Yo tweedy ! Great content 🤝
Dr. Fate was someone i could never conquer.
That trailer still gives me the chills😂😅 i remember seeing that for the first time n i was so excited
back in 17 i was unemployed and had to choose between MvCI and Ij2 to buy because i only had to money for 1 of them, unfortunately i picked MvCI and not like i hate the game, but IJ2 turn out to be a game that i love so much and i completely lost the online days, i only was able to buy it in 2019 x-mas sale =( I really want a IJ3 tho!
I picked up supergirl in the game specifically to deal with zoners
Shoutout to Adventure Battle 2 🔥
Great video bro
Was just thinking about this. Zoning ruined the nostalgia & blood sweat & tears put into labbing. Laggy Atoms & starfires can be tricky 😩 gotta play against ur Star sometime
Ive been saying for years that if NRS made projectiles collide it would fix so much of this problem, thats the main difference between SF zoning and NRS zoning, why they ever made the decision to have them pass each other is beyond me, and decisions like that are why I play SF and Tekken lol
Even though the zoning was super crazy black manta and super girl were clean af
“This IS an injustice, get it? Cuz the game’s called inj-”
“Shut up.”💀
Inj 2 was ruined the moment you stopped playing
Shits crazy wyd tho ?
I started this game with the flash cause obviously my favorite. After getting spammed so much i had to switch to darkseid and even had a starfire incase someone got lame
Scarecrow and atrocitus were always in my pocket fir thst reason
If we are all honest we all enjoyed the zoning in ij3
It just made the game really different from other FGS
I played captain cold which was a technical zoning character(which i had much fun)
This game was so fun. I was super casual and played supergirl to overcome zoning, but started to play as redhood and booooy, that character was so fun. The most fun character I ever played in fighting games. I want injustice 3 so bad!
I love injustice 2, my favorite NRS game so far! Wish they still supported after mk11.
It wasnt even the zoning that ruined it for me. It was enchantress. Idk if enchantress was broken. But a character doesnt have to be broken to be completely obnoxious.
It’s was shooting game… lol😭
But I LOVED IT THOO💯
lol same
Starfire is one of my fave’ DC characters 😊 ‘Titans, GO!’
You can counter this with certain play styles and heroes easily. But I agree it is annoying when playing a spammer
What's with Netherrealm and its complete inability to balance guns?
we need to see some more FG history
I would personally give Deadshot a pass since lorewise he's the best marksman in DC and he doesn't have super powers so it would be weird if he played like Deathstroke for example.
Also there was a problem of casuals who were character loyalists now I do admit zoning was a problem but if you're getting your ass handed to you by a zoner, learn or experiment with characters that punish zoners like Darkseid, Enchantress & Supergirl
This game is 7 years old????? GEEEZZZZZ, and still no injustice 3, I guess it's fine since the ending for injustice 2 was bittersweet.
The gear in IJ2 is seriously top notch. MK11 was disappointing & don’t even get me started about “gear” in MK1.
There is a very good reason the best fighting games trade fireballs. Projectiles still passing each other just proves they're unable to admit when they're wrong, I mean, they did finally remove that block button in Injustice 1/2...
I mean the block button makes sense for MK because it was built for it. Injustice is not MK so it doesn't need one
Though I am not actually sure if projectiles canceling would be better or worse since it just means characters that lack fast fireballs would literally just get overwhelmed
@@boredomkiller99 usually characters that lack fast fireballs are balanced enough about it. By having good or decent enough normals and ok damage. So projectiles cancelling with each other would have been a good thing.
