      using legit snagit for years, video capture is crap tbh. it records external sounds thru the speakers, not thru the system.
      In a meeting or whatever conference if u use a bluetooth kit it wont record anything but ambient sound of the room, this is really disappointing

      I don't think you are alone. Most people just use the simple capture, and maybe some markup.

    If you get to the point that you see the value in this amazing program but the price seems a little steep remember one thing, this is a truly “you get what you pay for” item. You will have the ability to produce outstanding presentations and audio visuals. It will seem a tad overwhelming at first, but as you navigate and produce you will sit back and smile knowing that you are able to be a level above your competition. Lastly, Steve you are one of the best! Your personality and presentations are top notch!

    I used to be a big fan of snagit. Used it for I bet over a decade professionally. Now there's the built in snag routine. Hit Windows+shift+s. It's on every windows 10 box. Now you can cut whatever you want and paste it into something like Word. No saving a file or any of that. This is the way I do it now.
    Thanks for the good times Snagit. I've moved on.

    Indispensable bit of kit for me, but what you have shown me today is the meaning of 'haven't scratched the surface". And thanks for that. I was unaware of some of the more useful things this can be used for as well as the advantages of the library search via app! Top tips from a top man.

    I think your end summary can have a darker undertone to it: A tool that gets better over time means that leaving that tool becomes more and more difficult. This is exactly how platforms and ecosystems end up locking users into them.

    • @dottotech
      @dottotech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why would you attach a negative connotation to that?
      A company improves it's product and you consider it to be manipulative?

    • @olbaze
      @olbaze 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dottotech Not manipulative, just a potential vector for abuse. If you develop a good product, and get people invested in it, then you may reach a point where you can do pretty much whatever you want, and the users will accept it as the new standard, because leaving has become too costly. A great example of this would be Adobe with their Creative Cloud. I personallly know people who have used Adobe stuff professionally for a long time, and they can't afford to leave it, but at the same time they don't like paying subscriptions for a bunch of apps they will never use.
      Personally, a similar concern has lead to me moving to using Linux instead of Windows. Microsoft looks to be piloting their programs to subscription models, and Windows is becoming a datamining/advertisement platform. I didn't want to risk a scenario where one day I wake up, and Microsoft has announced that the next Windows version will require a 9.99€/month subscription and everyone on older versions of Windows will be forcibly upgraded to it.
      All that being said, your demonstration of Snagit does make it look like a very powerful tool for quick, easy, minor photo editing stuff. Probably great for making custom TH-cam thumbnails, or adding helpful pictures to a PDF guide.

    Hey Steve! Love SnagIt! Love Dotto Tech! What a great combo! I have been a TechSmith enthusiast for years as well, mostly due to SnagIt and Camtasia. When making screen captures, one of my favorite tools is simplify where I can place bars over images and text, but remove them from just what I want folks to see. So many uses for SnagIt - so little time. Thanks for sharing!

  • @UniversalPioneer
    @UniversalPioneer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It's nice to see PC and can do basic default functions that are on the Galaxy Note series and SPen since forever ago. I wish I came across this PC software a long time ago because the desktop was a clunky experience trying to screenshots and share in general. But now I see the mobile workflow dominating as you are not tethered to a ball and chain of a PC at a location plus mobile chips are powerful for up to 8k video editing. I'm waiting for the Samsung S8 Ultra tablet that comes with an S-pen and with that all the crazy stuff you can do with thanks to the Note series smartphone. I live a mobile computing life. I may give this a try if I'm stuck doing work on the ole desktop.

    Have now spent the better part of the afternoon with the support person for Snagit - still no luck on my Mac. I usually like your recommendations - but this time 👎 It's not an issue with the software. It is just that the software does not like to tango with my Mac. /// For the record I would now - one week later (there have been holidays) want to add that after another session sharing my screen with their tech support Snagit is now running on my Mac. I really like it but understand that there can be some fiddling before you can get it installed properly. Now I look forward to Snagit!

    All the comments below are great BUT I don't know yet how to even draw an arrow. Wish this had said in the beginning that this was not for pure beginners.

    Nothing else is close means, no other competitor have tried right.
    It does not mean that SnagIt is ultimate.
    I face lot of issues everytime after some idle time. It gives me blank or black pages when I capture a screen after some usage.
    I have either restart my sysyem or just find a regilar printScreen or snippit in windows until I restart.
    Is it happening to me alone? Still that is not correct.

    Snagit looks incredible.... and free? in chrome store it only has a few users and 4/5 stars?
    Are you using the paid version now?

    Will Snagit allow for a talking head like you have in this video or is it an either or thing? Thank you!

    Question: When I follow your instructions the control panel remains in the picture and winds up being a part of my capture. What am I doing wrong?

    I am confused about where my screenshots would be kept. Heather Major's comment below reads as though SnagIt is an online product. Does this mean I cannot save the work I do to my own computer?

    But what about Camtasia when it comes to screen recording?
    Am I only able to capture part of my screen using Snagit, while Camtasia can only capture the entire screen?

    I have snagit on Widows 7 at home. Was great. Went through hoops to get it at work. The work moved to Windows 10. Was force to "upgrade" at work. It's terrible. I think it's a dead end now.

    Nice video, but...I don't get a "scrolling window" I am on the free trial - also, when I do the panoramic capture then try to share it, the image is tiny...when I enlarge it, it gets blurry. Is there a fix for these? Thanks!

      You can trim video in Snagit, but to edit the video you need to use a proper video editor like Camtasia

    Can the Snagit video capture be imported into Final Cut (or other) for more sophisticated video editing?
