So, I've watched the end of the video now, and listened to Liz's rant of the day. I fricking love you!!! Thank you! I want clear and accurate information, including the negatives, so that I can make an informed decision. Then the outcome of that decision lies squarely on me. I'm an adult. I will be accountable for my decisions and I will take responsibility for them. Am I currently growing out a damaged toenail from incorrect efiling? Yes, which is why I haven't used the efile since and is also why I'm watching this video now. I've watched lots of others, but I wanted to learn the differences between the bits. I shall now practice on myself, and eggshells (viewer suggestion below) before I unleash my skills on anyone else. A million times, thank you. Xxx

We’ve all done that so welcome to the “I’m learning and accidentally overfiled my nail” club! I completely agree with you. Let people learn so they can make their own educated choice! ✊ keep practicing. It definitely gets easier with time.

Why did this comment make me wanna cry!!! I love love LOVE finding info that empowers me to try techniques that I’m scared of due to my lack of knowledge. And I hate not knowing where to start when trying to educate myself ! Nothing better than having an a-ha moment and realising you truly understand something. Takes away the guess work and stops the venture from feeling so overwhelming!! I also love being able to use past mistakes to guide new practice ! I already use the skinny cylinder bit to remove dead tissue from the nail plate but have been too scared to delve right into the world of Russian manicures (despite really really wanting to). I’ve now got a much better understanding, have ordered my bits and am so so excited to get practicing! Good luck to you Carol, I know just from your comment that you will do great once you get the hang of it!

@@NikstaaSpyrouu thank you so much!! I've found it helps to go really slowly, with low revolutions, to become familiar with how the e file feels. In getting there!! Good luck to you too. Xx

I have done the same. I am currently growing out damaged nails from over filing. Talk about a lesson learned, but would've loved to know what bits are for what before I started playing with them, the proper speeds, etc. Now I know and can practice better with the newly found knowledge! I'm so glad I found her channel!

I've done much damage to myself with efiling xD But that doesn't mean I'm just gonna stop learning, right? Currently I'm far away from even trying things on other people, so I'm my only victim and I say it's worth it. And I need all the information I can get, because I really like this technique (I was able to do the most perfect nails on myself EVER), but I'm struggling and not doing it right. Love the rant and agree wholeheartedly ^^ ♥

Ok, this is my VERY FIRST youtube comment. I really have to thank you for this video. I have not yet gotten into doing nails. I’m waiting on polygel to come in and meanwhile i’m watching videos every day. I ordered a efile and am definitely interested in learning how to use it. It just seems to get much better results. The only thing i wasn’t knowledgeable about was nail prepping with a efile. I’m really excited to try this. I’m definitely bot going to chop off my finger or nail lol your video was extremely informative. One of the best videos i’ve seen so far!

Hey, nice video..! Much information and quite thorough explanations.
I'm not a nail artist, I work at a hospital and my hands get so dry (got dry skin-eczema too) I can never hydrate them enough.. Feels like nails build up on the sides Even after I've gotten them done, they get bad after a while, so I don't wanna spend money on them, going to salons. I try to push cuticles with wooden sticks that are meant for this, but I don't get the sides that have the build-up. I'd like to try this e-file, a gentle one for home use and also not expensive, because I'm not a professional. Do you have any recommendations? I live in Greece, Europe. Thank you in advance!

I noticed the colors on the bits. Do they mean anything?

    • @TheNailHub
      @TheNailHub  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes. Normally green is coarse, blue is medium, and red is fine. There's also sometimes yellow for extra fine, black for extra course, etc. The grit ratings are similar to nail files. I usually recommend medium across the board. It's powerful enough to get the work done without needing to force anything and it's also gentle enough for natural nails and skin. Please check out my full gel nail fundamentals series to see the full explanation on bits and efiling.

My nail drill from amazon died on me, so after watching you and researching the heck out of options, I took the plunge and bought the ERICA’S MT-20 and OMG it's soooo much better!! But it also got me wondering so I thought I'd ask you.... is there as big of a difference in the bits? For example the bits from Pana on amazon vs the bigger name brands like Enailcouture or even the Erica's bits? Is it worth the extra money??

    • @TheNailHub
      @TheNailHub  5 ปีที่แล้ว

With diamond bits it can make a difference when it comes to the quality and making sure they are well made, dont have sharp burs that stick out (aka are well seasoned), and a few other minor differences. When it comes to anything I usually buy from companies who make their products. For example Erica's ATA makes their bits so they have complete control over the quality and if you ever have an issue you get awesome customer service. With other companies you might not get the same. And with cheap cheap bits you usually end up spending the same amount because you have to replace them more often. Bits of all materials wear down so they need to be replaced regularly. A good bit will last 6 months whereas a cheaper one might only last 2.

Good practice for pressure control on the natural nail is using eggs and making sure you don't crack them before you practice on anyone.
Edit: Hardboil the egg first to avoid a mess!

this tutorial changed my life, seriously. I've ALWAYS had overgrown cuticles, which turned into hangnails and a hack job after taking a nipper to them. after watching this, I carefully took my drill (I'm a glass engraver) and cleaned them out. I'm not exaggerating when I say that my cuticles have NEVER looked better! now I'm going on Day 3 (which is a long time for me) of "so fresh and so clean" cuticles and I'm absolutely amazed! THANK YOU x 1000 for so freely sharing your knowledge!

I think I just found the answer to my question! My eponychium grow really long, up to a 1/16th of an inch if I let it, and I always push them back and cut them off then end up with hangnails all over the place. I will soon be a licensed LMT and I cannot have damaged skin on my hands!! I don't care what this costs, I'm buying one pronto!! Thank you and thanks to Angie as well for her comment... sounded like we have the same issue :)

Thank you so much for all this e file education. I’m from Michigan, and we don’t get this kind of education here. I have been using an e file for several years to remove gel polish. I felt like I had to learn to preserve my wrists, and fingers. I’ve been shy to try any other bits. I have not used other specialty bits because I have not felt educated.
When I take pictures of my work the cuticle area never looks perfect like photographs in nail magazine, or instagram. I have realized this is because theirs are e filed. I’m going to buy the bits and learn.
I’m 57 yrs old, and I watch a lot of u tube nail tutorials. I learn, and try a lot of things that I would have never known about. I really appreciate the time , and effort that you, and Suzi put into your videos. You both make me a better nail tech.

I want to thank you for teaching us how to do nails and sanitize properly. Because of your video's I now have the knowledge of what the salons in my area should be doing. I was going to the best-rated salon in my small town. I always thought they were clean and doing everything properly. They even have the autoclave there in the front of the salon where you can see it. But I have since figured out it is a prop more than anything. I have been paying very close attention and noticed that the exact same basket with the same tools was sitting in the autoclave week after week and never moving. The door on it stays cracked open where you can see what is inside and it sits within 5 feet of one of the busiest stations in the salon. It is possible that it's an old one that they just leave spare pieces in and they have another one in the back. But I also began to notice that the sanding bands being used were not always clean, the other bits they would pull out of a bit hold or loose inside their drawer. The hand files and buffers were used as well. Nippers and other tools were being pulled in and out of their drawer or cabinet. Nothing was clean and unused unless you were the 1st customer of the day and then I am still not so sure it was all clean. I did find one salon that does new and clean tools for pedicures, but not for fingernails. I was both thankful and horrified at the same time. The closest salon that I have found that uses clean bits, tools and new files on each client is about 1 1/2 hours from my home. And I live in a more rural area so that is about 80+ miles. I also have very thin nail beds that are very easy to damage and I am extremely sensitive to the vibration from an e-file. So out of necessity, I have had to start doing my own nails. And it is the best decision I have ever made. My natural nails are no longer damaged, even though I still wear acrylics, polygel, builder gel, etc. I also don't have issues with vibration since apparently, my e-file is of higher quality than any salon I have ever been to. I say thank you for educating us. And as a bonus, I have found I am pretty good at nail art so my nails look the best they have ever looked. Thank you again!

I started watching you religiously after seeing you on Suzy’s channel (Nail Career Education) and I have to thank you as you are an amazing teacher and I have learned more from you in the last few months, than I’ve learned for the 6 ,or so, years that I’ve been watching nail videos! For the first time, I was able to file off the colour gel portion of my nail without disrupting the base layer, this was all thanks to the video you posted a few weeks ago! You actually gave me the know-how, which gave me the confidence that I needed. Thank you so much for your amazing content Liz 😘🇨🇦

Your a great teacher and very spot on so if they follow your instructions they won't hurt themselves. I see nothing wrong with showing beginners how to properly prep the nails with an e file. Information is highly important. If they don't follow your instructions that's on them. I 💯 agree with you.

Thumbs up for this great video with those very helpful explanations! As a German I can't understand this fear of e-filing. It's completely normal in Germany. Even in private space people are doing their mani with an e-file. No worries about that. And believe me, they all still have their ten fingers ☺️.

Thank you for the details and education, so appreciate you.
I have recently started wearing glue on nails and after few sets realized that the cuticle prep is everything. My press on/glue on nails are lasting now for 3-4 weeks with only couple repairs(occasional popped nail) I purchased recently inexpensive e file to help me do a better nail and cuticle prep and so very thankful you covered & educated us on all the drill bits. Can’t wait to use this e file and your techniques. Thank you

How refreshing to hear a young person so courageously stand up for the principle of accountability. Bravo!
I've been a cosmetologist for 30 years. Thank goodness for e-filing!!
I do nails on women of all ages and when you consider the sensitivity of those with arthritis and the delicate skin of my 90 plus year olds, an e- file is the only way to take care of anyone's cuticle needs. -Don't need to clamp down on their tender joints in order to use a standard sanding file, and on skin that's as delicate as flower petals there is nothing better than an e-file with a polishing bit. It's all you need in that tiny, specific area.
In my experience an e-file is not only more comfortable for everyone it is safer.
Let me say that again,..e-filing is safer for cuticle and pedicure work!!
    These videos are great education!
Nail techs be brave and try this technique, and never slice a cuticle open again with a ginormous hand file that is covered in sand and will never be as controlled as an e-file bit!
    Right!?

To the nay-sayers 33:31, i think people are already just buying efiles off Amazon or Temu and doing it anyway, so Liz is correct that its all about getting information out there. This video has probably prevented many injuries and cuticle cuts from carbide bits, high speeds, too much pressure...and from other misuses. Thank you for this information, Liz @TheNailHub for this information.
The access to efiles is already here. It's the access to information that Liz gives for the good of humankind. ❤

Wow! What an incredibly informative and educational video! I’ve recently transitioned to using an e-file for my personal home manicures and I’ve made more mistakes than I care to admit because I simply was not educated enough to perform the technique properly in order not to damage my nails. Thankfully it wasn’t anything that couldn’t be reversed with a little time, care and more education. I am so very grateful to you for sharing this extensive and detailed information! It has helped me to be more aware of what I’m actually doing to the nail bed as I work and how to use my e-file safety and effectively. Thank you so much!!

What e-file do you recommend for a beginner? I have found that hand filing gel and acrylic takes sooo much time and not to mention, even when really trying to be careful, I catch my skin around the cuticle. Yes, ouch.

If you want a cheaper one for beginners we have the Medicool Turbo or you can go up in quality and power from there. All of the machines we offer are great but turbo is more of a starter machine. So depending on your needs you can decide based on that.
