    Just ordered and got one of these. Will try out tomorrow. Chose 18 volt because I have a little Ryobi 18v Leaf blower and the smallest cordless 18v string trimmer plus 5 batteries and a charger. My wife likes the string trimmer because of its light weight and it’s smaller size suits her perfectly. It’s to small for me. She has used the daylights out of it. It finally croaked this spring after 6 1/2 years of abuse. (She did not like using the lawn mower so she would use it to cut the lawn!) Ordered a replacement along with this edger and a clipper/hedge trimmer. We will see how they work. If they work and last like the string trimmer did, I will be very pleased with them.

    I had a Ryobi 24v edger and it worked great for 6 years and now the battery won't charge and I can't find a replacement anywhere. I am looking into this 18v to see how good it operates. Thanks for the review!

    I'm looking for a cheap edger for how little I'll use it. Came across the Ryobi one at Home Depot. I figured I'd do some research and look for some videos on it and wah-lah my man had a video on. You rock boss!

    I'm not sure how I missed this video I normally get allerts since I'm subscribed, anyway my biggest problem with this Ryobi and TTI is parts like that replacement blade have cost so much. I bought a small hand planer for a 5min job, it was on the shelf, and I needed it. When I went to get blades and it takes 2, so 2 sets of 2 cost more then the planner. I like the edger alot but I'm going to reserch the blades first, Oh and by the way I LOVE my new Dewalt planner I went ahead and bought, 2 replacement blades $10.00

    I had one of these and couldn't get it to work properly. I would either go too deep or not enough and couldn't keep it straight. Just couldn't get used to it. Ended up sticking with my string.

      @toolboss8410  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yea ..thats exactly whst you should do with it ...i actually use edgers very rarely...use string trimmers to edge ..mostly new lawns that have never been edged before i use a edger to make that deep edge ...then just maintain with string trimmer

    The truth, It's back breaking work with a shovel and a rake. I've tried over the years on my walkway and pretty much given up every time. I did it one summer years ago and it took me two tries around my lot. $100 bucks is worth it if you can get 5 years worth of service out of the edger.

    We just got one of these because our 13 year old son is going to start doing our lawn and thought this would be easier for him than the string trimmer.
    Something must be wrong with ours because even after charging a battery for a full day, it doesn't spin around fast enough to actually cut the grass. It basically hits the grass and stops. Very disappointing.

    • @toolboss8410
      @toolboss8410  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      try and raise the blade .. also tell him not to push down on hard .. all edgers have problems with hard dirt pacted down .. once you get a nice edge going it be much easier👍

      I only reviewed this video because a customer has one they are not impressed with.
      It is a ryobi after all. But I definitely wouldnt think it should stop when performing it’s intended task.
      I would be looking at a warranty claim if I were you? My Stihl edger will break concrete footings given the opportunity

    I have 5 other 18v+one tools, and 5 batteries. I really do like all the tools, however I bought this, charged all 5 batteries. And it handled well, but a battery only took me 40-50 feet. Then needs another battery.
    So I tried again the following day on cleaning up the edges, already been edged. And again, 1 battery only went about 40 feet. Then fresh battery, went about 40 feet, a new battery, went about 40 feet.
    I’m sure the batteries are okay, not very old. I’ve got 2 chargers.
    Anyway, I decided to take it back to Home Depot. Got a refund, no questions.
    And I bought a black n decker corded edger.
    I have a relatively small yard on the corner. Two sides of sidewalks.
    I like ryobi tools, this just wasn’t good for me.
    I can go at it with the black and decker corded model, and get it done without any problems.
    I might add, I have a ryobi drill driver, an impact driver, a cut off saw, a small circular saw, a saws all, a flash light. All those work great and the batteries hold charges a long time.

    • @d.g.n9392
      @d.g.n9392 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, I could add, I had a craftsman corded edger that I used for 19 years. It was still working, and while putting on a new edger blade. The drive shaft sheared off. This made me look for the new edger.

      I use Stihls commercial based tools and can easily get through over 150metres (500 feet) of tough edging on a single battery charge. Granted it is a 36v system using 7.2ah storing 281 W/hrs of power.
      A ryobi 6ah battery will only store roughly 108ah of capacity.
      A 4ah battery will only hold 72 w/hrs and the 1.5ah batteries in starter kits will only hold 27 w/hrs of charge.
      I hope this helps in a way.
      The motor in this video sounds like it is a brushed type motor too not a brushless dc motor and that will also lead to unintended losses of power.

      Also the guy who filmed this is running the tool back to front. The wheels should be on the concrete surface not the lawn.

      Good information on batteries. I emailed to ryobi yesterday, if they would inform customers up front, these tools need the higher capacity batteries. NONE of the products manual or buying guides say anything about needing higher capacity batteries.
      All the products are listing. All tools
      “uses any 18volt+one batteries “

      I’d like to update my comments. I decided I DID want to purchase the ryobi edger.
      And after speaking to a manager at Home Depot, and contacting Ryobi reviews email. It was made clear that for the edger, you need 4a or larger to have successful use.
      The 1.5 a battery isn’t strong enough.
      And I stressed the point to Hone Depot and to Ryobi, they need to have better and more information about the need for larger batteries for some tools.
      In very small print, the information is there about the 4a or larger batteries , it’s just not easy enough to see. In my opinion.
