OC: Yamaha really know how to get the most outta the MT lineup. Definitely a great tourer for the price.
Oooh been excited for this bike. Totally out of the range of usual bikes I would be interested in, but Yamaha is doing interesting stuff with this!
OC: I took delivery of my 2021 Redline T9GT about a month ago and it's been phenomenal for commuting to work. 60+ miles a day and does it effortlessly. About that fuel gauge, I actually don't like how it reads full up until you're at half a tank. If you set one of the quadrants to read fuel consumption in gallons you'll notice that the fuel readout will display full even though you've used up 2 gallons. It's not until you hit 2.5 gallons used that the fuel level adjusts accordingly. The scroll wheel gets better once you get used to it, and once you have everything set up the only thing you'll need it for is to adjust the heated grips. I'm 5'6 with a 30in inseam and I cannot put both feet down, not even close. I have to shuffle one cheek off the seat to be able to set one foot down comfortably. So far no major complaints, I've gotten a lot of compliments on the looks especially that eye catching red color. Definitely worth the asking price in my opinion, it's a hell of a bike. Would love to see a Tracer 7 GT in the states to compete with the Versys 650 LT & the new Tiger 660 sport. I think Yamaha would have a hit on their hands with that one.
I’m the same height as you and haven’t had a chance to sit on this bike. I’ve been thinking about this bike as well because I ride a lot and it’s long distance. I sat on the Triumph tiger 850 and was on my tippy toes which the seat wasn’t in its lowest position. I’m not sure my second bike will be an adventure bike or a sport naked bike like the speed triple rs or speed twin.
@@keltecdan the problem with this bike is not the height of the seat from the ground (this is quite low) but how wide it is. So it makes it difficult when on stand position to touch down comfortably. For example new tiger 900 was better on this case. But ok the number one reason to go for the tracer is the engine.

I have been drooling over the Tracer lineup since I saw the 2019 a month or so ago, hoping to be able to pick up a 21/22 here in a few months. Went to the dealership to see what the $$ would be two days ago. Have been waiting eagerly to see if you do a review on them and behold! 🤣
If I could pick any mid tier bike I’d pick a tracer 900. Testrode one and instantly fell in love. Super comfortable but still so much fun felt like a big supermoto. Only thing is the new version looks a lot less cool imo. Absolutely love the look of the 2015-2019 models but Idk about this one.

@@eitanzvik To look at, the Z900RS. Had a ton of upgrades, suspension, exhaust, tuning, rearsets, bar, gearing, etc... It was very cool. But to ride in comfort, the Tracer. It's a tad quicker, especially as you get into triple digits due to better aero... The electronics are way better...

OC: love the Tracer 09-GT, would have possibly bought that instead of my MT-09 SP if I could have found one. But with my MT-09 I plan to tour a bit and get some shad bags and top case to fit weekend trips and gear and think it will be fine. Tracer definitely will eat up miles better but the playfulness option of the MT-09 when you pop-off bags and just ride is hard to beat. Great review.
Same colours scheme as my beloved XT-1200 es 2019. I suppose I’m still int the hip side of things. Anyway, I rode the ancestor of this great bike for 3 years (FJ-09) and I loved it, especially this fantastic CP3 engine. But my latest horse is the perfect ride for my 230 pounds and 6,2 feet body now only wanting to be full on ADV.
I love mine it handles brilliant it grinds the hero blobs effortlessly change of direction is superb brilliant bike

I recently purchased an mt 10 and it was just the Cadillac of naked bikes , but way too much top end for me to ever access: I am a newer rider , so I wanted something with similar features and still a great amount of power. I had my T9GT now since late October and put around 5000 miles on it over the winter here in the South. Love the bike but wish they would amp the CP3 to about 135 horses. It's parked in my garage next to my old 2019 790 Duke that my son rides now and my new 890 Duke R which is a bike that from a motor and transmission perspective hits my sweet spot. I am a hooligan by heart. Changes I made to the Tracer: The front brakes are meh and feel quite wooden to me. Installed a set of the new Brembo LA compound pads and MAN!! EVERYONE should do it! It is the best thing you can do for these Yamaha Brakes!! I have red SA compound pads in the 790 but these new LA compound pads are much better because they bite like crazy when stone cold and stay with it when the brakes warm up. I installed a set of Evotech adjustable levers because I disliked the late engagement point of the clutch and Yammi stupidly did not put an adjustable clutch lever on the bike ( shitty move guys!). I also put Evotech frame sliders and GBR case covers on. Now for performance: The ECM was flashed by Vcyclenut; a must for every CP3 PERIOD! and I went to a 15T front sprocket. Let me tell you gentlemen. That should be the way this bike is equipped from the factory. It really wakes up the engine and you only rev 350 rpm more than stock. I also installed a Dominator HP8 EX exhaust system but I am on the fence if I want to keep that. Lastly, I am tall 6'4" and finally settled on the MRA Vario Touring screen as the by far best shield for this bike and couple of mirror extenders because otherwise I only see my forearms in them. I would really like to see a performance comparison between the MT-09 and the Tracer 9 GT but nobody has done it or dragged them together. I would like some numbers how they compare in performance.
It's not about power modes, it's about throttle response. D1 D2 D3 has same power output but different throttle response, only D4 has limited power output

Hey Chase I just picked up my 2021 Tracer 9 GT with 2 miles, and notice a rattling sound while the bike is moving and the throttle is open. It sounds like a chain rattle. Did you hear anything like that on your test ride?
The gas gauge doesn't move until you're at half a tank. If you're riding the bike correctly you won't look at the ugly dash very often. The control wheel is the worst. The seat wears in pretty quickly. The grips get hella hot. Bags are amazing and super useful. Center stand is goat.
Yeah the fuel gauge is weird. I have this bike. I havent changed suspension yet, but atm its kinda hard. But its amazing for touring and long distances. I love it so much. And that engine… what can i say 😎😍

So I am looking at a MT-09 GT (with an aftermarket seat) as a long distance touring bike, I abhor electronic suspension, how would you say the two compare when it comes to leg room/egos? I would be very appreciative for your response!
I've got a 2015 FJ-09, and this is an upgraded version of that. Had an FJR before among several other bikes, and this thing is just about perfect. Except the seat. But most stock seats on bikes suck for me. I do a lot of long distance, and don't think I've ever kept a stock seat. This is my first bike with the Yamaha triple and it's just a great engine.
My Multi has a great stock seat. I've had several Yamahas, and all the seats were terrible. The FZ-09 had the WORST seat I've ever sat on, on any bike. Companies can do it right when they care. The old Yamaha FZ6R actually had a pretty good seat, now that I think of it.
@@opmike343 I test rode the new Multi V4 and it wasn't bad. I'd still yank it off for a custom, but that's entirely a personal thing for me. My FJR and 1200GSA also got the upgrades. If I weren't powered by donuts, I would probably be less inclined to do it. Lol! I will say, when I demo'd the HD Pan Am, I was pretty impressed with that one, and may possibly be comfortable on the stocker for long rides.

I have a 2015 FJ09. Isn't this basically the same thing? Does it cut off at 115 MPH?
Good review. The two issues that keep me away are the crazy twin screens that are hard to see in bright light and the front wobble at higher speeds. As you noted it’s a commuter or tourer eating miles on the freeway (if you don’t go too fast).
I did a short test ride today and compared to my 03 fz1 and 16 super tenere if felt light and twitchy worse at higher speeds. Everything else was AMAZING. I liked the groucho Marx dash.

OC: Since you've ridden a few sport touring bikes recently, I'm curious if you think the S1000XR and even Multistrada V4 are worth the bump in price. The Multi V2 is about the same price as this at $15k, but I don't think you've ridden that one.

I’ve been riding for years and I’m an instructor. The bump in price is not a matter of if it’s worth it or not bc it is but those other bikes are considered premium bikes. I own a 2019 KTM Superduke GT which is the Multistrada competition. I use to own the 2015 Yamaha FJ-09 which is this bike and I have a 2020 tracer 900 in the garage. If you trying to save money this bike is worth it. If you have the extra money spend check into the other bike but to be honest I would choose this over the XR, BMW needs to add a little more attention that bike. Hope that helps.
Had 2021 XR. And no, it's not worth. I sold it very soon after buying...
No sound (vacuum machine).
No dynamic position (stuck in the seat).
Strange gas behavior from start (euro5 norms,etc).
Too loud on start when warm(for cat to ne warmed up).
Top heavy( better suited for riders above 185cm).
Very questionable plastics(seems like very cheap plastic pieces from much cheaper bike ).
Windscreen buzzing at certain revs.
Some of these are just avoidable for some people, of course. But for the 20+ thousand euros and in comparison to Tracer it's a no go for me.
I took Tracker 900GT (previous version) and I'm very happy. 👍

Chase! Thank you for your awesome videos. Quick question, im a 41 years old, 5’8” and never have own a motorcycle, but always have love the idea of owning a motorcycle, specifically sport touring. I am aware that many recommend starting on a lower CC bike, as power is smother and may be easier to learn on, but would you recommend this bike as a first bike for a guy my age and prefered bike style?

Side note.. I thought the thumb scroll was a stupid complaint to have when you reviewed the mt09, until I bought one. Omg the thumb scroll drives me crazy sometimes lol. Definitely worth noting.
When u want to press the thumb sroll try to press it upwards. Sometimes it helps.

I wish Yamaha would go to a single TFT display, but you can't have it all. I can't believe it's at that price point. Especially when considering the electronically dampened suspension. I've had my eye on this bike ever since it was released.
When I first saw this bike, I didn't like the dash. The more I ride my '19 Tracer, the more I can appreciate having all this information available at a glance instead of having to use my scroll wheel. Maybe I'm just trying to talk myself into why I want this bike. LOL. Maybe a single TFT with more information could be a compromise.
@@patricksmith3668 Yeah, in the end, the display isn't a deal breaker for me, but I'd prefer one larger panel instead of two that have smaller harder-to-read font size to make it all fit. A Ninja 1000sx with ES would hit the sweet spot.
Getting rid of my African Twin 2021 because it’s just too big and heavy and sucks doing city driving stopping and going.
Would you say this bike is more approachable and better at commuting / city riding?
I know this is an old comment, but the Tracer 9 GT is only about 20 lbs lighter curb weight, that’s both without luggage or other accessories equipped. The Africa Twin is taller I believe though, so the slightly shorter height may make the Tracer 9 a better city commuter option…
