I think if you sell a lot. 500-1000 items a month. Negative doesn’t matter much. But if you sell 1-100 a month it matters a lot. Especially if you are just starting. I have received emails from eBay promoting discounts to stores with less than stellar reviews. Thanks for the great video 👍

Yup, I'd been 15 years on eBay buying stuff and I hardly did any returns other than one or two broken items, I would normally video the package when receiving and opening especially for big ticket and breakable items. Then of course I request insurance when I can. My impression is that it goes both ways, buyers as well as sellers. Now I'm learning how to sell and yes, I'm beginning to see with your generous sharing the other side of the eBay spectrum as a seller. Thank you so much.

haha Great Vid Jon and Topic! I had a return 2 or 3 months ago where a buyer bought an item worth $19.95 and the shipping was 21.93 it was a bit of a heavy item but small. The buyer about 2 weeks later opened a return saying she didnt like it and didn't want it anymore. So fine i waited until i got the item back to give her the return, so biggie. What i got was a small poly bag with just the cut out of label of the box the item was in. I messaged the buyer, After taking all the picture and document all that she sent back and contacted ebay just to give them a heads up, that she only returned the cut out label and showed her pictures as proof. I get a meassge back with all the nasty words you can think to call a person plus some things she said i can do with my private parts ( I had a good giggle). Called ebay and told them to read the meaage she sent got it in my favor the rep told me to not to do any refund and i would be getting a meassge from ebay in 24hrs that this case would be closed on my favor so i waited and within 24 hours i get a message to confirm (was surprised). and also her account was closed out. The funny thing is i got a message from a ebay user (total stranger) saying this person wants a refund plus shipping cost for that said item. I was like wtf lol so I replied back and said there is no purchase ID for that Item tied to your account for any refund to be opened call ebay and explain your situation (good luck trying to explain that bud lol). So I blocked that person and the rest is history and it's back to business. I tell you some people are just Out of their cotton pickin mind But I look at it as If there are no people like these then life would be bland because I did get a chuckle out of this one though.

Sorry to hear about the returns if it makes you feel better I just went through two weeks of hell. Starting two weeks ago last Monday with terrible back pain. That was effecting my ability to get out and source, then later I was having problems even listing. Went to Chiropractor Wednesday and again Friday and we couldn’t figure out why I was in so much pain until the rash showed up Sunday. I googled and figured out it was Shingles (I’m only 43). I went to the ER Sunday and spent the last 4 days bedridden. I had to temporarily close my eBay store all this week. Monday morning I had to have my wife call out at her job in order to do all the packages. I was laying on the couch and printing labels and FaceTiming her in our garage/warehouse. Took so long we missed our USPS pickup from our poach and my wife had to go drop them off. Feeling better now and turned my store back on today so hopefully I’ll be 100% on Monday but either way I can at least walk and stand and ship again. Shingles is no joke.

I apologize if this isn't 100% related… I shipped a camera item to a buyer USPS priority with signature and insurance and the buyer said they received it and they love the item and have used it. But USPS says it hasn't been delivered… which means I can't get my funds released. The buyer changed their story later and said they would pick it up after I filed a USPS inquiry. Is this some sort of clever scam? Why would they lie that they got the item when they didn't?

YES! No cancelations for me EVER (3 returns over the decades).
    This week...2 cancelations.
    1) They accidentally purchased an item that I sent an to them offer on & wanted to cancel (before I shipped)
    2) Buyer purchased a medical book that had highlighter markings.
They found same book for less on Amazon with no markings & canceled before shipment
Both completely understandable BUT 2 cancels in 3 days of each other seemed suspicious 🤔 (even though it isn't).

Last year I had a lady buy a pair of sandals from me. She opened a return, said they didn’t fit. Normal start.
Then she started messaging. “Why haven’t your refunded me?!” Took her a week to mail them, then another 3 days to arrive. Every day she messaged. Finally got them. They weren’t the sandals I sold her. Contacted eBay and they ruled in my favor and closed the case. The lady continued to ask me why I haven’t refunded her and never acknowledged that I received a different pair of shoes than the ones I sent. Never left negative feedback though. Then about two months later I get a message from someone claiming to be her daughter apologizing for her mothers behavior. Seems the mother had early dementia and had lots of problem buying stuff on eBay. I felt bad hearing that because I was stern with her when I received the wrong item back.

Every couple of months I deal with a buyer who’s buying CPU’s from me, every single time he’s placing the orders to be under $200, to be delivered to the same address (home address, not a business) from a different eBay account, many times these accounts created in the same day, or a day apart, all of them are a few years old, every single time paid for under a different name. Hello, the other day I shipped out a couple of cards using eBay standard envelope to 2 different buyers. Both packages said delivered. 1 of the buyers msged me and said the tracking says delivered, but he didn’t get the envelope. The mailman handed him his mail too. He’s going to wait today to see if the letter shows up, after that I told him to contact his local usps with the tracking number to see if they could look into it. Do you know what happens if you ship out a item, gets scanned in as delivered, but was not received?

    • @Miranda3730

If it shows delivered you are fine. If the buyers asks again send the buyer the tracking number and yes suggest the buyer check with his local post office. If the tracking shows it was delivered, you are off the hook. But If after that, the buyer opens an "item not received case" provide the tracking again and reply to that, and call eBay. eBay will close the case in your favor if he opens a case as "item not received."

Jon, thank you for a very interesting video that brought a smile to my face throughout the entire time. First of all, your first story is quite common in my experiences. I am always perplexed why people will spend 30 or $40 to get a refund of $20. I have mentioned this many times on previous videos and it has happened to me numerous times before. As far as your second story is concerned, with that weirdo who sent you the long political rant, that guy is obviously not all there. And for him to send you back an empty envelope put him into the scammer category. You mentioned that he was from New York but was he from upstate? Or was he from one of the five boroughs? I would like a location if you don't mind I don't need the exact address just a rough idea. We recently sold a chrome Cadillac trim piece that fits the front of the hood. This was a multi quantity listing.
The buyer purchased 2 of them so I messaged him to ask if it was a mistake or did he really want 2 of the same item. He quickly replied YES. I shipped.
A week later we received an ebay messsge "wrong item sent". There were pictures included with arrows pointing to small chrome strips on both L&R that mount to the bumper.
I asked why he ordered something that connects to the hood, thinking there a 2 for the bumper, when the listing title clearly said hood. That is why we contacted him before shipping.
After a month passed, we received an unexpected package. After looking at the dimensions of the box I had a good guess. 2 chrome hood trims.
The address label was hand written with USPS retail postage for $30.
His mistake cost him $48 in postage. He did receive a small refund.

Once you start doing 15k - 20k a month you'll learn exactly what i'm talking about, it's designed to charge you an extra 5% in final value fees after you start selling so much because they know they have the hook in you. If a buyer lies about the return and you get too many INAD returns, ebay will charge you 5% more in final value fees, which is an increase of roughly 50%. They never remove them even when the buyer admits to it, hell I have ebay's staff writing me through their message system telling me it wouldn't affect me, yet it still is. They rarely ever remove INAD's when the buyer admits to lying about the return reason. Ebay themselves are terrible people, always trying to milk as many fees as possible out of sellers, while giving buyers the freedom to rip off whomever they want with no recourse.

I believe they recently upped it to 6%.

@@FlippinAintEasy My wife and I talked about this and that is where we draw the line. Right now when we buy stores out we separate our items based on high chance of return fraud and low return fraud, we list low return fraud items to try to keep the number below 2% I believe it is. When ebay decides to charge me an extra 6% because of their sub 50 feedback bidders that continually commit return fraud, I'll close my store ( have 400k worth of items now) and move them to amazon, I'm sure amazon will appreciate the hundreds in thousands of fee dollars they can make, that ebay will be losing due to their poor policies and the sellers always wrong motto. That's what pisses me off the most about it, is that Ebay lies, they do not remove defects from your service metrics eventually. I have at least 20 returns in the past 3 months where the buyer admits to return fraud, and ebay still doesn't remove it. Oh well, there are plenty of other sites that are run better that are more than willing to let me sell my inventory..I like ebay, I want to keep using ebay, but I will not tolerate them profiting off of fraud at my expense.

Do you know that Amazon has a metric when you send the buyer a message after they already requested a return in your return key performance indicator dashboard. They want easy button quiet returns. I don't think sending Ebay buyers "love notes" via the message system after they open a return can be a good idea, the algorithm may silently hold that against you as being difficult.

Since ebay likes to emulate Amazon it’s quite possible. I had a return request today for a used printer and they opened a return saying it doesn’t work (i had in the listing it needed new ink). I messaged them and asked them what was wrong with the printer. They messaged back that they couldn’t figure out to put the ink in.
Note that i think about it, ebay does seem to encourage communication with the buyer since a contact buyer option is available on the screen when approving a return.

These are ALL OF THE REASONS why I DO NOT TAKE RETURNS

    • @FlippinAintEasy
      @FlippinAintEasy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

The misconception is you can have a no returns policy and while that might keep some buyers from pursuing a return, if a buyer wants to they can open an INAD and you are forced to accept the return and all that comes with it.

@@FlippinAintEasy I don't really have that problem ever with returns but I am wondering if my items are pushed down further in searches because I don't use the returns policy. I just don't want buyers to be able to return something a month later just because they decided they don't want it now.

@@ericenloe8967 I’m certain it affects where your items appear in search as compared to your competition. Ebay states they want to create a positive buying experience and for that reason they promote free returns and free shipping over listings with business policies that aren’t buyer friendly.
