  • This is the latest way I've been rigging my dipsy divers. This hack should help you catch more salmon and trout if the fish are being boat shy. The video shows the knots and hardware that I use to rig a SW (Secret Weapon) Dipsy Diver. NFN

    Hi Nick, Love the SW dipsey. I couldn't find a knot I trusted in the main line so I tie a separate, small, mono loop running through one of the micro swivel eyes at the start of my leader. I do it for wire divers too. I've only tried it for one season, but so far-so good! If your videos aren't the best, they're one of 'em! Thanks Nick!

    Nick, This is a great idea for getting a long lead on a Dipsy. I tried your way but found the loop hard to get past my rod tip, particularly if there were a lot of water fleas.
    So I have gone in a different direction. I attach a OR 14 clip to a short lead (6") from the Dipsy and tie a stopper knot a foot or so from the knot between the braid and the fluoro leader. The stopper knot is simply an overhand knot with a about 4-5 overhands in it. It makes a sort of a barrel knot when tightened down. The OR 14 clip will not come off the line as long as you make sure you have the line inside the pin and it will not slide past the stopper knot. This has worked for me for the last two trips and I've gotten a couple of fish on it.
    Works the same as your setup, just reach up and unclip the Dipsy from the line, but the knots go easily through the rod tip. What do you think?

    I love this set up. Been using since your first video years ago on my braided high divers. I used a small piece of shrink tube, pre shrunk and tied the loop right in the braid. I have had two or three hard fighting Lake Ontario Kings and steelhead thrash the dipsy off the clip a couple times - besides that it works very very well! Efficient and easy!

    I understand the reason to use 30 pound mono to make your loop, but wondering if you shouldn’t make the loop as close to the braid as you can, which should reduce the stretch even further for easier releases, with the loop being closer to the no stretch braid? Secondly, why not just run the majority of your leader as 30 pound test mono to your swivel, then run a shorter leader of about 4 or 5 feet of lighter line for lure action and reduced line visibility for the fish, thereby not requiring your swivel to go through the guides?

  • @michaelsinclair4870

  • @hankparkette2679

    Why do you only tie in a 3 ft section of 30lb test? If you used a much longer run of 30lb and only a 8-10 ft section of leader you could then tie the swivel where the leader joins the 30 and it wouldn't have to be reeled thru the guides, possibly damaging the guide inserts?/

    Curious,,, with nothing attached to the back of the dipsy, if you catch a smaller fish, the dipsy will never trip, right? you gotta give the braid a huge tug for the dipsy to trip, & then maybe it'll help the rise to the surface? or just spin around?

    • @NoFishNicksAdventures
      @NoFishNicksAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes on small fish or if you have your Dipsys tightened up for rough conditions you may have to give it a little tug (just like a normal Dipsy). Good luck

    • @NoFishNicksAdventures
      @NoFishNicksAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The S clip has a spring loaded latch on both ends so you attach one side of the clip to the Dipsy (release arm) and the other end of the S clip goes on and off of the loop that you put on your line. You have to push the spring latch with your finger tip to get it on and off. Good luck

  • @stevewolfe7115
    @stevewolfe7115 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why did you add the thirty pound mono section for the loop? Couldn't you just make a loop near the end of your braid, then attach the leader to that? I made a couple per your directions, they work great but would like to simplify the process if I can. Thanks for sharing this information.

    • @NoFishNicksAdventures

      When I tried it with the loop in the braid (fireline and or powerpro) it was very difficult to get the S-clip into the loop (loop would collapse and twist) causing lots of frustration. With the mono the loop stays open making for a fast and easy connection with the S-clip.
