The line, “Sail on Silver Girl,” was written by Paul to his wife. She had graying hair, and was fretting that her world was closing because of getting old. Paul said, in effect, “It ain’t exactly so.”
It's okay to shed a tear 😢 this is what makes us human beings don't ever be afraid to show your emotions no matter what color we are we all, bleed the same color just from a different mother 😊 people have forgotten this we all bleed the same color 😊
It is worth watching the live performance of this song from the Simon and Garfunkel reunion concert from Central Park. Art Garfunkel stands there alone in the spotlight and sings like an angel.
My Aunt had dementia for the last 5 yrs of her life. She absolutely adored Paul Simon. I took care of her in that time full time. I learned so much but I can safely say that learning him and his amazing talent was the most meaningful to me. Please please listen to his solo career. He is amazing.
It’s really just one of the greatest songs of all time. S & G composed a true masterpiece. One time riding with my folks we had this song on and windows down. As a car drove past us, guy at the wheel did 👍 going by
Music is one of the strongest emotional enhancers that there is. It makes you happy, it makes you sad, it makes you cry. All of us humans share that emotion. Beautiful!!
These guys music hit the streets of America in 1964 - 65. The country had never heard anything like them. Their songs had so much depth and message it was just WOW. They had a run of hits that left all of us shaking our heads what the heck did we just hear. Two of the very best to ever step on a stage. Pure 100% EXCELLENCE
Hello, beautiful! Thank you for sharing this wonderful classic that will never go out of style. It's very difficult not to get excited about this song. In the first part Art Gardfunkel sings. Greetings from Tandil, Argentina! 🇦🇷🤗
Art Garfunkel sang lead on this one. Paul Simon is a genius-level songwriter. He and Art Garfunkel were a team until 1971. Simon continued to write and perform great music after they broke up. Paul Simon (the shorter man) wrote the song and plays the piano (Garfunkel does the primary vocals). He said he was inspired by black spirituals for this song. In the 80s, after a trip to Africa, he said, again, he was inspired by the African rhythms he heard there, and brought the African musicians he had worked with back to the States to produce music for them. Simon always gave attribution to the black inspirations he got.
While Paul Simon can play the piano, he didn't do so on this recording. Larry Knechtel was the pianist for this song. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bridge_over_Troubled_Water_(song)#Personnel
I keep forgetting that some of the reactors haven't experienced the music i grew up with. This song came on the radio at least twice a day. A lot of times at the right moment, too. You know when wotk os hectic or you are having a rough time. This would come on and just give you a vocal hug and lift your spirits a little. Seger's "Roll me away", Billy Joel popping on with the river of dreams. Etc.
Just so beautiful and I grew up with sp much good music and lerics just so beautiful and blessed to have seen All the great bands. Thanks for listening.
No matter how many times I hear this song (and that's very many) I am struck by the combination of the poetic beauty of the lyrics and the incredibly touching vocals. Truly one of the all time greatest songs of any genre.
@@kshavon3098 Yes, her version went to #1 on the R&B charts in 1971...but it was actually not on Amazing Grace album - the studio version was a single and was on a greatest hits album, and there is a live version from her Live at the Fillmore West album. Such an amazing transformative version - worth doing a reaction to her version as well.
Beauty, Humor and hobo knee pads!!! Sounds like the perfect girl of any red-blooded man's dreams!! I love you and your channel. Nearly 35k subs!! Congratulations!!! I wish you all the best young lady, RNB
So many great covers of this song but this one being the orginal is always my favorite......also I was also laughing because I heard the train in my headphones but looked out my window since the train yard is about a half mile away and thought the train was coming through lol
Hey Bestie..I took a break from You Tube but I'm here for this song. Missed you girl. Great reaction and Peace out 🙏 ☮️ ✌️BTW it's Art Garfunkel is singing this one 😄
Hi sweetheart. Absolutely fantastic video again. Always loved Simon & Garfunkel. They did an album from one of their concerts. It was a free concert and it was just called, concert in Central Park. Apparently (I don’t know if this is true so please don’t quote me) to date it was the biggest concert in the world. It was free to attend and they performed it in Central Park in New York and literally it was jampacked. No need to worry about shedding a tear to the song because that’s what some songs do. The words take you back to something or make you think about something that gets you emotional and to write a song that can provoke those kind of emotions is something very special. This song was actually written by Art Garfunkel. Another great one to listen to just for yourself is Paul Simon and the album is called, Graceland. It’s when he came to South Africa and recorded with a black group called Ladysmith Black Mambazo and it was absolutely fantastic. Thank you so much for doing this video. Please take care and many blessings to you and your family from the UK. ❤
This song was originally a gospel piece .and was redone in Simon and Garfunkel words and music arrangement Paul was a poet And song writer and Art was the angelic voice . Over a hundred million albums Sold
This song won song of the year at the Grammys for best song 1970. This song was sort of an anthem for the end of the 1960's, reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on February 28, 1970 and stayed there for six weeks. It was the longest run at number one for any single that year. Art Garfunkel sings the lead vocal, Paul joins him in harmony in the middle.
Hey sis, virtual hug 🤗 🤗 This is def a emotional song, beautiful. Ur like a bridge over troubled water for me, u bring smiles and light to my dark days. Love u grl💖💖Thanx soooo much, take care, Peace
Paul Simon wrote the music and lyrics for all their songs, played guitar and did some of the vocals, eg joining in the last verse here. Art Garfunkel only sang, but man, did he sing.
Elvis's live version of this beautiful song, performed in Las Vegas in the early 70s, is worth watching. I love your reactions 😅❤ I lived by a train track, I feel you on that!

I find it hard to believe that any adult - especially if they are from North America - never have heard of Simon & Garfunkel. After all, they are the greatest duo in music history with songs that are just outstanding. Pity though that this lady have to keep pausing the song instead of listening to it carefully. Oh well.

What's funny is Elvis released the song on an album the same year, yet never released it as a single. Even Paul Simon, in an interview, said it was more..."dramatic", I believe was the word. Elvis' version definitely puts more power in. I love both, but, depending on the mood, I sometimes prefer one over another.
